As Yuji came strutting out of the bathroom a waiter came gliding up to him and bowed politely.
“Excuse me, Mister Hayashi, could I please bother you for a moment?” the waiter asked, bowing again and Yuji automatically bowed back.
“Yes, of course,” he answered, bowing again out of sheer habit.
“It’s young Mister Hayashi, sir,” the waiter said, indicating with his hand towards the bar, and Yuji turned to follow the waiter as he made his way to the bar.
“What did the little shit do now?” Yuji asked, his heart sinking, but the waiter looked over his shoulder with a slightly startled look.
“Oh, no, sir, it’s nothing he did. Not at all. We’re just a little bit concerned about him,” the waiter said as he stopped by the end of the bar and one of the bartenders looked up from where he was hovering over a chair, behind the bar.
Yuji sighed as he saw that on that chair sat Kansas, obviously as good as passed out drunk, and at the moment had little tears falling from his lashes as he mewled incomprehensibly in Japanese.
“Oh, gods, I am so sorry,” Yuji said and waited for the bartender to wave him inside the bar, and Yuji sank down on his haunches in front of Kansas. “I am so sorry for this. He hasn’t gotten jetlag yet, so I guess it’s hitting him now. Has he been drinking a lot?”
“Not a lot,” the bartender answered, shaking his head. “He’s had a few of the alcopops, as far as I know. But I do think he’s been getting sips and drinks from other guests as well. He’s been going between tables, meeting people. But he has not made a nuisance of himself, Mister Hayashi. Far from it. He’s been a delight, all evening. He just suddenly lost his balance and started crying, and we thought he’d fallen ill.”
“No, he’s just drunk off his ass,” Yuji said with a small sigh, and stood up. “Thank you, for being so concerned. He’s… How should I say this? He’s got a high tolerance for alcohol, but once he gets to a certain level, he ends up like this. I’ll take care of him. Thank you.”
“We can call someone to help you carry him down to your room, if you’d like, Mister Hayashi,” the bartender offered, but Yuji shook his head.
Yuji bent down and picked Kansas up into his arms easily and bowed as best he could at the bartender and the waiter. “Thank you again, but I’ll take him back to our table and his guardian will decide what to do with him. We can’t really leave him alone in this state. Thank you, again.” Yuji bowed his head again and carried Kansas out into the restaurant, and walked to their table.
“You are a slut,” Kansas mumbled, lifting his head to peer with one eye at Yuji.
“I know, but that’s how you like me,” Yuji answered and kissed the tip of Kansas’ nose.
When he got to their table he smiled at Willow and she helped him get Kansas down on a chair.
Willow looked up at her husband with a small look, and Yuji grinned at her.
“You absolute man slut, you got some, didn’t you?” Willow asked in Japanese, and Yuji shrugged his shoulders.
“So what if I did?” he answered her back and eased Kansas down until the youngster was laying across two empty chairs, with his unshod feet on Willow’s lap, and then Yuji let Kansas’ head fall on Satoshi’s lap.
Yuji mouthed ‘Sorry’ at Satoshi, then turned back to his wife and nibbled a kiss to her neck.
“My love, would you mind if I leave you and go flirt with someone who caught my eye?” Yuji asked in Japanese, and Willow laughed as she looked up at him.
“Go, have fun with your conquest, you silly git,” she said, and pursed her lips to steal a kiss before she would let Yuji go.
Yuji kissed Willow quickly, then turned around and saw that Bronwen had gotten up and was heading for the bar. Yuji grinned a little as he slipped away from the table, following her.
“Excuse me, Miss Bronwen,” he said with a small bow, and his most disarming smile on his lips. “I was wondering if I could bother you for a moment. Just one quick question, really.”
Bronwen had gotten up from the table, walking over to the bar as a way to look around and ensure everyone was settling in nicely. She turned to face Yuji, giving him a friendly smile. “Yuji, isn’t it? Of course. Ask me anything.” The bartender put a wine glass on the bar in front of her, the base resting on a small napkin. The liquid was a deep red, almost black, and it seemed to literally absorb the light which fell on it. “I do hope you’re enjoying yourself so far. Tonight is only a chance to get acquainted, but starting tomorrow, I promise we’ll have some amusements for anyone who doesn’t think sitting in a room and talking about writing is interesting.”
Yuji let out a soft snort of a laugh and bowed a little bit as he smiled one of his naturally charming smiles at the intimidating woman. “As much as I enjoy my wife’s writings, I must admit that the process of creating them tends to fly clear over my head, or, when I’m having a bad day, simply confuses me to no end. But tonight has been absolutely wonderful, and I am really looking forward to the rest of the week. This will be a good vacation for the four of us,” he said, bowing a little again. “But, my question…” Yuji smiled again, purely unconscious and full of boyish charm. “I noticed that your companion, Sand, has been getting to know our Satoshi, and Willow did say that we would be free to explore freely this week. So, I wanted to ask you whether you would allow me to get to know your other companion. Vale, isn’t it? He looks so charming, and his eyes are just the most beautiful I have ever seen.” Yuji bowed again, that boyish smile still on his lips as he waited for an answer.
Bronwen beckoned to the bartender. “What are you drinking, Yuji? Let me get you something, and we’ll step outside for a cigarette and chat. The short answer is yes, but I suppose I should probably be on my best behavior and give you the longer answer, too, and I confess, I like a cigarette from time to time.” She waited until Yuji had ordered a drink, and then took him outside and through a door which was discreet enough to be overlooked unless one knew it was there.
“This is my private rooftop terrace. I like my creature comforts, and the hotel was kind enough to accommodate me.” Bronwen sat on a comfortable sofa, and motioned for Yuji to join her before offering him a cigarette from a silver box on the table. “Now, the longer answer is that I would be very happy if you would get to know Vale. For all his charm, he is something of an innocent, and I think he needs to explore himself, and expand his horizons a bit. It’s been far too easy for him to simply let himself be borne along by Sand, who is far more daring, and more adventurous. So, please, do get to know Vale, and I hope you can make him smile the way Satoshi is making Sand smile. It would please me endlessly.”
Yuji took the offered cigarette, and grabbed the lighter off the table to offer Bronwen a light before she could take it. Then he sat down and lit his own cigarette, mostly to try to cover up the thoughts that were racing through his mind.
Bronwen had just described Vale as ‘something of an innocent’. Yuji could not help but wonder just what kind of innocent she meant. The blowjob that he had just received in the bathroom was not something an inexperienced lover would do. Yuji was certain that not even an elf who had only had a lover or two would be capable of that. There was also the way that Vale had responded to him, and his orders, the way that Vale had almost been challenging Yuji to be an alpha male with him. The thought occurred to Yuji whether Bronwen meant that Vale was an innocent in the way that Kansas was an innocent. Yuji shuddered at the thought, and shoved it away brutally. He did not want to go down that rabbit hole tonight. Yuji drew a deep drag of his cigarette and allowed the words to play across his mind again, ‘something of an innocent’, and Yuji decided to grab onto the words that he could work with. He could do his best to help Vale explore himself.
“Thank you, Miss Bronwen,” he said with a serious look on his face. “I cannot promise that I will be the one to help Vale-san explore himself, but I would like to at least introduce myself properly, and lay the offer before him. As for Satoshi…” Yuji stopped and drew a long drag off his cigarette, letting the plume of smoke out slowly before he continued. “I feel I should warn you, for your Sand’s sake, Satoshi is devoted to Kansas. I was surprised to see him so eager to get to know Sand, and even flirting the way he was, to be honest, but then Satoshi has always been full of surprises. I just don’t want it to cause a problem, if that is all that Satoshi is willing to share of himself, on account of Kansas getting in the way. But Satoshi is also a grown up, and can usually take care of himself. The last thing that I want is for any of us to cause a problem between us, and your companions. I think that might be one of the few things Willow would not forgive us.” Yuji looked into his drink and bit his lip, his heart racing when he realized that he had almost called Willow his wife just now, and then his face grew pale, when it came back to him, that he already had outed Willow as his wife to Bronwen at the bar.
Bronwen arched a brow at Yuji. “Sand is adept at taking care of himself. He’s a survivor, and there’s not a great deal which can give him pause. I imagine he and Satoshi will spend as much or as little time together as they choose. He’s extremely honorable, though, and nothing will happen without Satoshi’s agreement. And for this week, I do think both discretion and freedom are the bywords. Sand and Vale are free to explore as they choose. But between you and me, neither of them is bound to me, not now, and not after this week. I am protective of them, yes, and Vale is featured in my own work, but that’s all there is between us, a very old friendship and a great deal of affection.” She offered up the last in a quiet voice.
Yuji gave the white haired woman a grateful smile and bowed his head in gratitude. “Thank you, Miss Bronwen,” he said, hoping that she would note the faint hint in his tone of voice. “Now, if you would excuse me, can you please tell me what Vale-san is drinking, so I will have an excuse to go and sit with him? I would like to try to catch him, before anyone else decides to try their luck.” Yuji put out his cigarette as he stood up, bowed deeply and waited for Bronwen’s answer.
“Vale has discovered brandy, or to be very specific, Armagnac. The bartender knows how to serve it, so run along and ply him with drinks. I have a feeling he’ll enjoy that,” Bronwen said, standing and opening the door to the rooftop terrace. “The wine is just a palate cleanser for him, so just ignore that. Oh, and don’t try to match drinks with him. He doesn’t metabolize alcohol like you do.” Her smile was warm and friendly, and she nodded her head as she held the door for Yuji.
“Willow has warned me, numerous times that elves do not get drunk like humans do, so I will do my best not to challenge him,” Yuji promised as he bowed one last time before slipping through the door. He hurried to the bar and when he got the bartender’s attention he leaned a little over the bar and said with another of his boyish grins. “Hi, there. I’d love another double whiskey, and a glass of Armagnac for that glorious, tall blond over there, please. Lady Bronwen said you knew how he likes it,” he said, as quietly as he could, hoping that the blond elf could not hear him across the room.
The bartender smiled, and nodded as he poured a generous double whiskey for Yuji, and a fluted glass of Armagnac for Vale. “Here you are, Mister Hayashi, and enjoy.”
Back at the table, Vale finished his appetizer, a small dish of prawns in a light sauce, and he sipped the last of his glass of wine, alone for the moment. Bronwen had stepped away to get a drink, and Sand was busy with the gorgeous pierced man at the next table. Vale huffed a little, and reached over to help himself to a piece of toast with a dollop of pate topped with truffle shavings.
Yuji winked at the bartender in thanks, and then took one quick sip of his whiskey before turning towards the elf’s table. Yuji ran through an entire dictionary, and his whole arsenal of disarming opening lines and icebreakers on the short walk over to the table, and by the time he’d reached the table, the only pick up line that he could think of was ‘Hey, how’you doin?’ which he honestly thought sounded like he was utterly without charm. But he was not going to let this gorgeous elf slip away without at least saying ‘hi’.
Yuji slipped effortlessly into a seat next to the blond elf, put the glass of Armagnac down in front of him, and then in his smoothest whiskey voice, Yuji purred, “You know, your parents must have been the greatest jewelry thieves in the history of your world.”
Vale turned, his eyes widening as he saw the very man he had been looking for, sitting beside him. “Um, my parents?” he managed, and then he looked at the Armagnac. He tilted his head, his golden mane loose and wavy over his shoulders, clearly confused.
“Yes, they must have raided the very treasures of the gods, to give you eyes that beautiful,” Yuji said, frankly impressed by his own smoothness. “Two emerald stars, pretty enough to make the sun blush.” Yuji grinned, and nodded towards the drink. “I do hope my offering is sufficient to steal a moment of your time.”
Vale opened his mouth, and closed it again. “My eyes… oh!” He blushed a beautiful shade of pink, and one slim hand reached up to tuck golden locks behind a pointed ear. “Thank you for the drink?” He blushed a little deeper and looked around the table, having eaten all his appetizer and a good bit of Bronwen’s. “So, where you’re from, you’re Hayashi Yuji? Should I call you Hayashi, or Yuji?”
“Please, call me Yuji,” Yuji said with that soft whiskey purr that he had accidentally stumbled upon, and gave the elf one of his disarming smiles. “I think it’s a relic of the old times, in my country.” Yuji grinned his boyish grin again, and leaned a little closer, looking deep into the elf’s eyes. “Your eyes are insanely green, do you know that?” he asked, enchanted, and tucked a lock of his hair behind his ear.
“I know they’re green, but I had no idea about the sanity level,” Vale replied. “I’m sorry, I’m being an ass, I think. I just have no idea at all how to respond to that and still sound like I’m old enough to be drinking this fine liquor. Can you tell I don’t get a lot of compliments? So can I try that again? Thank you, Yuji, for that sweet compliment, and yes, I’m blushing.”
“That was a perfect response actually,” Yuji said with a small tilt of his glass in an offered toast and he grinned wide again. “I have just never seen eyes as green as yours. They really look like emeralds. So, if that is you being an ass, please, keep it up. Willow would probably just tell me that we’re well matched that way. She calls me an ass often enough, after all. And now I want to admit, that I have barely read more than three chapters, total, of Miss Bronwen’s books about you, but I have a copy of Willow’s story tucked into my bedside table, and I’ve read it so often that I had to print out a new copy for myself. I think my favorite part is the bit where you tell your assistant to teleport those mud monster things into the closet of the lord of your city. Makes me laugh my head off every time.”
Vale touched his glass lightly to Yuji’s glass. “An’coia!” He took a sip. “Well, actually, I’m glad I don’t have to live up to my persona in Bronwen’s books. I’m far less heroic, and far less glamorous in person. And to be honest, I do wish I’d thought up the mud monsters myself. I may have to ask Miss Archer if I can steal that. Which means, yes, there is a real city, with a real lord, and I do have an assistant who’s far less long-suffering than he appears in books. More sarcastic, too.” He started to snicker a little. “I probably don’t want to know this, but I have to ask. I did ask Bronwen, but she told me to behave, which translates as ‘I don’t know, and I’m not going to find out, so go away’ in Bronwen-speak. How did Kansas come up with the thing about the dwarves, and how coarse their beards are?”
Yuji started to laugh and looked over his shoulder at the little imp stretched across the chairs and sleeping soundly. “He’s an imaginative one, that one,” Yuji said and nodded his head towards Kansas. “But, as far as I recall, Willow was growling about how having a dwarf giving an elf a blowjob sounded like a good punchline, but that it sucked that the dwarf would have the last word, since this was supposed to be your story, not theirs. She was going to end the story on that conversation between you and your assistant, where your assistant gives you a funny look as you walk away. And then Kansas just pipes up, ‘But the dwarves have really coarse beards, he’s going to be itching for a week. And that would be enough of a hint to make the assistant gape’. It made Willow laugh so hard she started crying, and Satoshi nearly forgot how to breathe with shock. I think Kansas also came up with the idea of having the dwarf suck your cock, but I can’t remember how it came about.” Yuji took another sip of his whiskey and smiled at the blond elf. “So, can I ask, you and Sand-san. You’re friends?”
“Well, even in real life, I’d have taken that bet. I mean, it’s actually stupidly intriguing, since elves don’t have facial hair like that. No beards for us. So I’d be curious, despite all the nonsense about who’s offended who first. We’re both long-lived races, and it means we can hold grudges for millennia. I mean, we have a whole series of insults involving dwarves, and I’m sure they have just as many involving elves.” Vale shrugged, grinning at Yuji. “But I wasn’t lying. It did make me think about what it’d be like. But I really would have to stand on a box, because even if I did find a willing dwarf, the chances of him kneeling in front of an elf are literally nonexistent.”
Vale paused and took a swallow of Armagnac, looking over at the back of Sand’s head as the raven-haired elf leaned toward Satoshi. “Yes, we are. Friends and sometimes a bit more, when the fancy takes us. It’s a long story.” He looked back at Yuji. “What about you? It seems like Kansas is more attached to Satoshi, but are you and Satoshi friends?”
“You’re making me very curious about just how tall dwarves are,” Yuji said with a teasing laugh, but then he glanced over his shoulder to make sure that Satoshi was still enjoying being flirted with, and not letting Kansas’ jet lag interfere with his evening. “Satoshi saved his life, and Kansas views Satoshi as his. It’s a long story, and theirs to tell. But Satoshi and I have known each other since we were in our teens.” Yuji paused and looked deep into those enchanting green eyes and smiled a little. “I guess it’s much like you and Sand-san. Friends and sometimes a little more?”
Vale laughed. “Dwarves come to about here on me,” he said, indicating his breastbone. “They’re broader than I am, though. I’m not necessarily thin, but I tend to be leaner than most humans, and a lot leaner than a dwarf. Now gnomes would be a bit shorter than dwarves, and no wider than a human, so it’s possible I wouldn’t need a box. But then again, they don’t have beards like dwarves do, so where’s the fun in that?” He waved a hand. “Sorry, being an ass again. But I guess I asked about you and Satoshi because I didn’t want to step in between anything. If that makes sense at all.”
Yuji laughed brightly and decided to take a chance, leaning a little closer so he could purr at the elf. “Honestly?” he asked, allowing his voice to sink a little lower, making it more husky. “I would get on my knees for you any day of the week.” Yuji grinned and rubbed his smooth chin, and added with a small sigh. “Although, sadly, I am quite lacking in the beard department, so I would be a disappointment there.”
Vale’s eyes widened. “Oh, but you’re not a dwarf, so I wouldn’t expect a beard. I have a feeling I wouldn’t be disappointed, either.” He hesitated, and then as if drawn by some magnetic pull, his slim fingers traced the shell of Yuji’s ear, where it was revealed by Yuji’s tucking his hair behind it. “I don’t think you could ever disappoint.”
Yuji gasped when the silken skin of Vale’s fingertip touched the tip of his ear, and when the warm finger traced the shell all the way down to the earlobe Yuji could not help but moan. Loudly. Loud enough to make himself blush, and he knew that if he had been standing his knees would have buckled right there. “Dear gods,” he whispered, and one hand slipped down to land on Vale’s thigh, just far enough under the table to be discreet. “I’m sorry,” Yuji gasped again, and tried to stop the shiver that ran through him, but only managed to turn it into a heavy tremble, his pants now so tight that he was sure he had broken the zipper. “What did you do?” he asked and looked up into Vale’s eyes, his cheeks flushed with his sudden arousal.
“Your ear,” Vale murmured. “It looks almost like it has a point. I know I’m just imagining it, but it does, and you react just like an elf when I touch it.” He looked entranced for a long moment, and then he seemed to shake himself mentally, snapping back to the present. “Oh, Seldarine, Yuji, did I hurt you? Or something? You’re blushing like mad, and I think I really made an ass of myself?”
Yuji twitched hard, the foreign word tickling a long forgotten memory somewhere deep in his mind, much as it had done in the bathroom earlier, but he was too preoccupied to even notice it. “My ears are sensitive,” Yuji started, waffling terribly as he tried to find a polite way of explaining himself. “They’ve always been very sensitive… In a… an… intimate manner?” Yuji gave Vale a sheepish smile and felt his cheeks flushing even darker. “I’m sorry. The only two people who have ever stumbled upon that particular curiosity are sitting right behind us, at the moment.”
“I have the same response to my ears being touched,” Vale admitted. “I probably shouldn’t have done that but I was curious. It really looks like your ear wants to have a point. But that’s crazy, completely crazy. I guess anyone can have an erogenous zone that might be unusual.”
Vale took another swallow of his Armagnac. “I think they’re coming around for main course orders now. Why don’t you stay here? I don’t think Sand is coming back to this table anyway, and I’d enjoy the company.”
Yuji meant to answer, but the appearance of the waiters made him change his mind. “I would love to keep you company for the main course,” he said, then glanced over to Willow’s table. “Please, do not take this the wrong way, but I might have to help Satoshi with Kansas later, after we eat. Satoshi can’t carry him by himself any more, not when he’s that dead to the world,” Yuji said with a small bow of apology. “But I would love to spend some time with you.” Yuji allowed his hand to drift lightly up Vale’s thigh, and he smiled a little when his knuckles brushed against the bulge in the elf’s kilt. He sincerely hoped that the blond elf could see the heat in Yuji’s smile.
Vale’s eyes widened again, and darkened with need and desire as he felt Yuji’s feather-light touch against his cock. “Of course, if you need to help Satoshi. I understand. But I would love it if you had some free time, too. I’m sure we could find some way to occupy it that we’d both enjoy.”
Yuji pulled his hand away and rested his elbow on the back of his own chair, giving the elf a quick wink. “I’m sure we can find something to entertain ourselves with,” he said, his tone suggestive, but then he turned to smile at the waiter who was approaching them. “Now, what shall we have for our main course? I am a little lost with the menu, to be honest.”
“I think Bronwen said the menu is sort of suggestions, but the kitchen will cook anything to order,” Vale said, looking at the card in front of him. It was printed in several languages, although elven was not one of them. “I was thinking about the beef.” He gave Yuji a quick look. “If we each order something different, we can share, if you’d like.”
“I was just going to suggest that, you know,” Yuji said with a bright smile and leaned a little closer to read the menu over the elf’s shoulder. “How about, if you prefer beef, you order the beef, and I’ll get the lobster, and then we can share?” Yuji took a sip of his whiskey, the heat in his eyes unmistakable, and his grin boyish again.
“Well, then, that’s what we’ll do.” Vale looked up at the waiter, who nodded, and made a note of their orders.
“Please bring us some wine, also,” Yuji said, bowing his head to the waiter. “I’m not very good at that, but isn’t it red wine for beef and white with seafood? Could you bring one of each, something that goes very well with our orders, please?”
“Of course, sir.” The waiter nodded and left to fetch the wine, after giving their orders to the kitchen.
