The days following were filled with work for Albert. After arriving in Crystal Valley through one of Sarah’s teleportation spells, he promptly began on working his way into the scrutiny of the bishops. He spent a great deal of time in the One Temple, poring over texts about the Bishops and the workings of the church. Although he had spent a good fraction of his short life within the grand library of Crystal Valley, he had never taken the time to learn about the caste system and hierarchy of the church.
He rarely spent time outside of the One Temple, just like when he had studied abroad as a teenager. The time not spent in the One Temple was spent eating or resting, and even then he would carry a book with him out and about. He had minimal contact with his associates, although he was quite confident that Yuber was around just out of eyesight at any given moment.
Albert Silverberg refused to believe he was growing paranoid.
Arriving back at his room at the inn for the evening, Albert set aside his books on the nightstand and turned to the washbasin and mirror to inspect himself in the dying sunlight. Two days had passed since Yuber had forced himself upon him, and the physical injuries he had gained from that episode had been treated with Sarah’s Flowing Rune. Although it no longer hurt to sit down and there were no visible injuries, the encounter joined past memories to torture him in his when his mind was quiet.
Attacking his new objectives with fervor allowed him to push away the memories during the day, but the night brought back pain. Physical and mental pain.
He leaned heavily against the chest of drawers next to the mirror, gripping his chest in agony. His heart seemed to lurch inside his chest suddenly before being caught in a vice, and he nearly collapsed under another spasm. This is his fault… None of this would’ve happened without him getting involved…
… But I summoned him, so it’s my fault…
“Damn!” Albert hit his head against the side of the table as his knees buckled, and he groaned to himself angrily. He shut his eyes as the searing pain returned, clawing at the front of his shirt in a futile attempt to make the pain go away.
The young man let out a shuddery sigh as the torturous feeling subsided, stumbling towards his bed and barely managing to drag himself on top of it. He curled up in the center of his bed, too weary from the ‘attack’ to bother with his clothes. It did not take very long for him to fall asleep, uneasily shifting on top of the covers.
The darkness churned. All around, swallowing and suffocating. What life was there within the dark? Nothing tangible, nothing to for him to lay his eyes on. Was he even there, within the darkness? On the edge of nothingness?
The questions in his ‘head’ vanished as something stirred.
Beyond the darkness, something shimmered. He reached for it, curious about a change in the changeless surroundings, watching energy bleed out from a teardrop-shaped entity born out of the darkness. The energy, sliced by the darkness in a sheer emotion too pure to give name, rippled and began to take shape before his ‘eyes.’
A bejeweled shield, an unmovable object.
An ornamental sword, an unstoppable force.
Before his ‘eyes,’ the sparks of a legendary duel came to life. He watched as comets were formed, traveling off into the darkness. He watched warps form, voids of emptiness even within the darkness. He watched the cosmos swirl and spin in creation, a reaction to the great friction between the sword and shield.
He then watched, in shock, as the great sword and shield. The sword’s remnants became the celestial sky, the shield’s remains the ground. Every jewel that had once adorned the creations of the darkness fell to earth, glowing vibrantly and pulsing with the knowledge of the beginning.
“We have seen the beginning. We will see the end.”
He watched the green and blue planet quake and slowly fade to gray, crumbling into nothingness before his eyes. The jewels of the sword and shield glimmered on, emanating a light of regeneration, and he watched the world created anew. He watched it grow and flourish, decay and fall into famine, and then find balance once more.
And then he watched it quake and fade to gray, crumbling to nothingness again.
“It is a cycle. It is a vicious circle. Stagnant and everlasting.”
The world was reformed again, and he watched faces of a history he recognized float by. Wars won, countries created, people lost…
“This is the world as you know it.”
The world crumbled once more, and horror reverberated through his head as it faded.
“It will return to this.”
The blood red aura of the sword.
The gold and silver glow of the shield.
And two mismatched eyes, always watching, always surveying the end of everything.
The world was a rancid sphere hanging in nothingness, waiting for the end.
And those demon eyes were changeless, even as the sphere turned claret, bathed in the blood of many wars. Ageless in the horizon of a new empire, jaded in another ending.
The world quaked and crumbled again, and yet the eyes of crimson and silver remained.
He awoke screaming, and he had no idea why.
His mind was rattled, his chest was on fire, and his teeth chattered as he curled into a fetal position. He pulled himself into a tighter ball despite the pain scorching through him and threatening to swallow him whole.
Your fault… Your fault…
A shudder ran through Albert’s body, and he shut his eyes tightly. He saw blood leak from the darkness, ashes fall from nothingness like rain… A nightmare as he lay awake, unable to escape.
He screamed again, but no one could hear his tormented cries.
Silverberg had not shown up in the designated meeting place.
Luc had been slightly annoyed by the redhead’s absence, having not seen the strategist since giving him his task four days ago. Sarah accepted the delay with a slight frown of concern, suggesting to her master that they return to finding strong seals for the rituals at the ceremonial site. Yuber watched the True Wind child grudgingly agree, maintaining a nonchalant face until the child’s energy signature had faded.
A scowl captured his face as he concentrated on his own teleportation spell, focusing on the contract bound that had grown stronger over the past few days. He had last seen the redhead leave the grand library two days before, but had grown bored of constantly watching Albert and left him alone for awhile.
Figures he would disappear the moment I’m not looking.
The room he reappeared in was dark despite the time of day; the curtains to the far side of the room were drawn shut, only allowing sunlight in through the cracks. Something rattled in another room to his far left, and he averted his eyes towards the sound.
“Silverberg, I know you’re in there.” He stated it blandly, trying to hide his own frustration. The room radiated with the magic given off by the connecting hex he shared with the mortal. Due to the magic that flooded the entire room, he was unable to sense where the young man was exactly.
That was why he tensed when a hand gripped his left shoulder and turned him around, and why he did not react immediately after being punched across the face. Yuber staggered back a step, eyes narrowing as he snarled. “What the hell, Silverb--”
He stopped short, mismatched eyes widening at the sight of glowing eyes glaring back at him. Albert stood in only the black shirt and pants he wore underneath his coat, nearly disappearing into the darkness.
There was a flash in the dark, and the blonde demon found himself brandishing his swords quickly as a knife came at him. “Your … fault…” The words were rasped, glowing green eyes piercing every nerve that in Yuber’s body. A noise of disbelief escaped the blonde as Albert’s one arm put strain on his two, and he growled low in his throat when the redhead kicked at him in the stomach.
“Silverberg, snap out of--” The demon cursed as Albert broke away, looking around warily as the young man seemed to melt into the shadows. This shouldn’t be possible… A mortal can’t do this…
He’s taken too much of my power.
This realization came just as a cold blade came in contact with the back of his neck, and the demon hissed and leapt away. Albert followed with an uncharacteristically feral gleam to his eyes, slashing low and catching the front of Yuber’s stomach with his short blade. The demon, although amazed by the redhead’s inhuman speed, retaliated without mercy, bringing both swords down on the young man. Albert feinted to one side to take one blade deep in his right shoulder, laughing mirthlessly as he pressed forward, undeterred.
Yuber could not sense any clear feelings from the young man; everything about Silverberg had become a tangle of sensation and underlying madness. He grunted as Albert used his injured arm to shove him against the edge of the bed, watching in shock as the strategist laughed at the injury he had sustained. They toppled onto the floor in a mass of limbs, the smaller of the two managing to claw his way on top -- literally. Yuber’s cheek twitched as blood began to flow from a scratch, his swords scattered out of his reach in their wild struggle.
“You’ll pay… Nightmares… Die…” The young man’s words were disjointed as he took hold of Yuber’s neck, slamming the blonde’s head repeatedly against the floor. Yuber took the abuse in relative silence, dazed as Albert paused. He gripped the strategist’s arms, tearing at the skin under the black turtleneck even as Albert managed to straddle him.
“Dammit, Silverberg, wake up!” Yuber seethed, mismatched eyes filled with rage as he tried to move again. He received a punch in the jaw for his troubles, the blow stunning him long enough for Albert to reach over and grab one of his swords.
“I’m awake… Can’t sleep… Your fault!!!” Albert shouted in blind fury as he thrust the long sword into Yuber’s shoulder, relishing in the agonized scream that tore through the blonde’s throat.
Yuber writhed as his left arm twitched in agitation, his entire body tense as blood poured from the wound. Although the wound was not life-threatening to someone of his power, the pain took his concentration off the redhead that loomed over him. Yuber cursed and kicked weakly as Albert slashed at his jacket and pants, his free hand clutching at the younger man’s shoulder even as his pants were divested. The strategist tore out of his grip, leaving the blonde pinned and stranded alone in his pain for several seconds.
“What the h-- hell are you doing!?” demanded the demon, reaching again for Albert’s shoulder. The young man looked at him with maddened, glowing eyes, his shifting audible in the dark as he removed his own pants. Yuber grunted as his knees were pushed back against his chest, hissing as Albert’s knife sliced low on his thigh.
“Blood for blood…” The possessed, manic look on Albert’s face was unlike anything Yuber had ever seen on a human being. Another scream was wrenched from the blonde as the young man stabbed the knife into his thigh, and Yuber could only spasm uncontrollably under the redhead in his shock.
The two already-existing sources of pain took his attention off the third source, as Albert spread his buttocks and thrust into him without preparation or warning. Yuber snarled without restraint or care, his good hand reaching for the smaller man’s neck in vain. With his chest pinning Yuber’s legs and only one hand holding his hips, Albert was able to punch his victim in the face several times to keep him still. The air was saturated with the scents of blood, sex, and sweat, Albert’s groans and growls emphasizing each cruel thrust into the injured body below.
There was little Yuber could do to fight back against the mortal directly; each attempt to grab hold of or struggle against Albert resulted in a blow to the face or stomach that stunned him momentarily. He remained largely flaccid under the violation, blood running down his thighs and arm to pool around him. Cursing repetitively, the demon took hold of the blade embedded in his left shoulder, a furious snarl erupting from him as he it pulled out and up at the cost of the palm of his hand. Mismatched eyes lighting with unbridled fury as he switched his grip, preparing to skewer the strategist that dared humiliate and abuse him like this.
He faltered as Albert’s movement stopped abruptly, gritting his teeth and trying to steel his resolve by meeting his attacker’s gaze. Every thought of killing the young man dispersed upon at the other’s face.
Helpless tears rolled down Silverberg’s cheeks in stark contrast to the menacing look that had inhabited the redhead’s eyes, capturing Yuber’s attention more fully than any physical pain the young man could have dealt.
I’ve never seen him cry like this…
“Help me… I can't… Help--” The words were almost inaudible in the midst of their heavy breathing, and Yuber found himself focusing on the moving lips with a great amount of concentration. “Yuber, h-- help me…”
The wounds of both men became more vivid as Yuber’s anger faded away. Although he had sustained deep injuries to his shoulder and thigh, Yuber had to take notice of the blood that poured down Albert’s sliced shoulder and shredded arms. Gritting his teeth, the blonde tilted his head back. “Not before you finish,” he grunted, his good arm taking hold of the knife buried in his leg. With a sickeningly wet sucking sound, the knife came free, and the demon tossed it behind him and into the darkness.
Albert shivered above the demon, still too dazed to fully register his surroundings or anything outside the dreamscape that had haunted him the past two days. He moved slowly at first, growled orders from the weakened demon pushing him to accelerate. Gasps and loud moaning filled the silence, skin slapping against skin in an increasingly hurried pace. Yuber cried out as the pleasure won over the pain, releasing his essence over himself with a shudder.
Although already feeling the effects of post-coital exhaustion, Yuber gathered his magical reserves in his right hand and thrust the split palm against Albert’s chest. Blue energy shot out from the splayed out, expanding and capturing the young man. However, unlike his first experience with the spell, Albert found himself enthralled by the sensations that bombarded his body. Weakness took him even as he reached orgasm, a look of utter bliss on his face as he discharged his seed into the other’s body.
The moment did not last long, though; only seconds later did the glow fade from the mortal’s eyes, a feeble sigh escaping him as he fell forward in a dead faint. Yuber grunted lowly as the smaller body collapsed on top of him, already feeling his stolen strength returning to him. He held the unconscious young man with his good arm, shutting his eyes wearily.
I’m going to kill you for this, Pesmerga.
*laughs crazily* It’s done! This chapter’s actually done!! *collapses in a dead faint*
