Fires both sacred and profane - Chapter eight

My future will not copy fair my past'---
I wrote that once; and thinking at my side
My ministering life-angel justified
The word by his appealing look upcast
To the white throne of God, I turned at last,
And there, instead, saw thee, not unallied
To angels in thy soul! Then I, long tried
By natural ills, received the comfort fast,
While budding, at thy sight, my pilgrim's staff
Gave out green leaves with morning dews impearled.
I seek no copy now of life's first half:
Leave here the pages with long musing curled,
And write me new my future's epigraph,
New angel mine, unhoped for in the world!
(Elizabeth Barrett Browning)

"Frau Nakimura, I'd thank you for coming so quickly but I don't have the time for such pleasantries. Please, have a seat!" Kommissar Leber greeted her in his office. She had told Gerde to continue fixing up the castle but now she'd have liked the older woman's resolute company. Another wolf murder, this time miles away, had occurred and Grace knew only too well who the main suspect was. Cursing Gabriel and his Sire inwardly she straightened herself up to defend herself.

"Kommissar, I'm glad to be of service. Your request struck me as very urgent, so there's no need for thanks." She couldn't help but cringe at her own words, they sounded so utterly powerless and pathetic, it couldn't be borne.

"I demand that you tell me about Mr. Knight's whereabouts now. No further back and forth, Miss, just the truth. Now!" Leber barely managed to control his temper.

"I don't know anything about them myself, I'd be happy to assist you but....." she fibbed unconvincingly.

"You've seen him only yesterday. Allow me a word of advice, young woman, if you spill the beans now then the consequences for yourself may be of lesser magnitude!" he threatened and enjoyed seeing her blanching at his words. He already had her near the breaking point and this time he'd persevere to make her speak already.

"Consequences?" she gulped with a frown of anger spreading over her exhausted face. Gabriel, once this this over I'll see to it that you'll walk weirdly for the rest of your life, she swore to herself. As for your precious friend, I have special plans for that one! "Kommissar, I know little to nothing about the new case, so how can I be of any assistance? And unless you can prove that Ga- eh Mr. Knight was anywhere near the murder scene by the time the murder took place, I'm afraid that you're playing with paper guns!"

"You will not question, Frau Nakimura, you will answer!" Leber shot back, his head red with fury.

"Answer what? I know nothing about the case or about Gabriel's whereabouts. As your little spies have told you no doubt I slammed the door into Gabriel's face yesterday and I haven't seen him since. If you wish to link him to the case and want my assistance, you'll have to go into further detail about the actual case! Now, can I have some answers? I have been doing research ever since leaving Gabriel yesterday and maybe I can help you. I'm willing if you are!" she probed, hoping that the Kommissar would fall for her ruse. No, she'd not help him bring Gabriel to justice but she'd do everything in her power to see the Black Wolf dead. Even assisting a German version of Mosely wasn't out of the question then.

"Alright, but I can't give you any confidential information!" Leber conceded with a frown.

"Hell, I can't even read much of the newspapers here, press information, that's all I want!" Grace was fast to assure him. The wide grin on Leber's face unnerved her. "I'm glad that my cooperation seems to amuse you!" she remarked sharply with an eyebrow raised mockingly.

No, no, it's what you Americans call a flash from the past, I believe. You see, when Mr. Knight offered me his cooperation he, I think, used pretty much the same words." Leber remembered with a faraway look.

"Whatever, please tell me about the case now. Where did the murder happen?" Grace asked impatiently.

"Near Wittlich in the Südeifel. Granted, it's far away from Munich but it's the same pattern as the murders near Munich. Frau Nakimura?" His concern for her grew. Had his bullying pushed her over the edge? She looked positively shocked out of her wits.

"Oh God..... The Morbach Monster!" was all Grace was able to say in response.

A rush of energy surged through Gabriel's entire body as his lips met those of his beloved in a hungry, almost violent kiss. He felt Friedrich sliding his arms around his waist to press him against his hard body and the feeling was beyond everything he had ever experienced. Never....almost never having kissed anyone for love he had not known how that emotion could transform the physical culmination of desire. Only yesterday he'd have laughed and brushed it off as romantic, dime-novel hogwash. But now, with his lover's hot lips ravishing his mouth in a frenzy of desire, he knew that physical pleasure was one thing but love quite another. Pressing his beloved closer he began to toy with the buttons of Friedrich's suit-vest.

"Mein Schatz, or should I say "My darling"? What do you think you're doing?" Friedrich asked with an impish grin.

Gabriel responded with another raw kiss, devouring his lover's lips hungrily.

"Could ya keep up the German endearments?" he rasped between kisses.

"Mein Alles, that's "My everything", what do you think you're doing?" Friedrich responded huskily as he let his hands creep under Gabriel's shirt to caress his chest provocatively.

"I think that's pretty clear, wouldn't ya say?" Gabriel grinned, relishing the feel of the Baron's caresses on his bare skin. "Mmmmmm, God, ya smell delicious. What is that?"

"Ever heard of cologne?" Friedrich teased mildly. "Ah, I think I could get used to this....mach weiter....." he moaned as he felt Gabriel's hands sliding from his waist down to his thighs.

"Mmmmm, yeah, talk German to me....." Gabriel dared him as his hand was creeping up his lover's inner thigh.

"Mein Engel, du bist wunderbar! Ja, genau dort......oh Gott, man könnte meinen, du hättest das schon dein ganzes Leben lang gemacht!" Friedrich lost his words as his lover's hands reached the well of his desire.

"Don't think I need that translated......" He kept taunting him playfully.

"Ah, spiel nicht mit mir! Du bist so grausam......" the Baron let his head fall back at his chosen one's advances. Ever since that day at the club he had been dreaming of this and now that it was finally happening he felt darkly blessed.

"Ya like that?" Gabriel teased as he let his left hand slide beneath the material of Friedrich's suit-vest. "Ya gotta teach me, baby, I know nothin' about pleasing someone like.....you...." he moaned as the Baron's hands slid down from his chest to the proof of his throbbing desire.

"Like it? That's the understatement of the century, and I should know about that, don't you think?" Friedrich assured him with another kiss, this time more tender than passionate. "Ich liebe dich so sehr....." the Baron whispered into his lover's ear.

"That means "I love ya", doesn't it?" Gabriel guessed, deeply moved.

"That it does, yes, indeed. You do understand some of it, don't you, mein Engel?" Friedrich's voice, melodious as ever, seemed radiant to Gabriel and never had those three words moved him more. Oh, he had suffered through countless declarations of love in the past, mainly from women who couldn't get over the fact that sex wasn't the same as love in his mind. Except Malia, for she had known and.... Remembering the raven haired beauty whom he had loved so deeply a look of melancholy swept over Gabriel's face.

"Um, not much, no......." The moment was over and the heat between them dissolved. After an agonizing moment of heartbreak he once more felt Friedrich's warm arms surrounding him, spooning him against his lover's strong physique. Burying his face in Friedrich's broad chest he listened to his lover's now steady heartbeat and a feeling of overwhelming calm overcame him. "I love ya too....." he whispered into the silken folds of the green suit-vest and inhaled his lover's musky scent.

"Tell me about her, mein Geliebter." Friedrich urged him on while stroking his angel's head reassuringly.

"The monster of what?" Leber was completely alert now.

"The monster of Morbach. It's one of the werewolf legends I am currently researching," Grace explained while trying not to panic. For whatever answers she had found, twice as many questions seemed to come up.

"I need the results of that research at once. I'll also see to it that my colleagues will look into it!" Leber demanded and he was overjoyed to see that she made no move of resistance.

"I will send you my notes and results as soon as I have finished my research. If anything comes up, let me know!" Grace agreed and got up to leave the station.

"Don't push yourself too hard, Frau Nakimura," he suggested with unusual kindness. "Get some rest, the case is well taken care of now," he attempted to ease her anxiety with no success whatsoever. As she left the station her exhaustion seemed to overpower her. Rest, yes, she'd rest for a spell. Without doubt this case would demand every ounce of strength she possessed, for this time Gabriel would be the target and not the supportive employer, friend and lover to be by her side.
