A/N: Here is where things might start to deviate from the original plot that was posted back in 2008/9ish. I realized that there is a lot of the plot that doesn't make sense and there are several loose ends and potentially unanswered questions. For the most part they could be ignored (it was a long ass story so I think I was forgiven by a lot of my readers); I wrote Science of Affection (my Lex/Zex story) after SCTL and sadly didn't reference much between them correctly. I am attempting to rectify that now. Raxe and Xylia (formerly Xulna but as I haven't had contact with the person that OC belongs to I have decided to change it) are OCs added to the later stories as helping obstacles. They aren't bad necessarily but as Raxe states in Science of Affection everything they do furthers their own personal goals, this includes both helping and hindering our various couples. They didn't appear in the original SCTL so they may only exist as passing references from other characters who might have encountered them. More information about these two original Nobodies will be stated in other stories where necessary!
ALSO! Thank you so much Serronas for your review! I'm sorry this is only one chapter tonight but I wanted to give you at least something to read in appreciation for your nice words! I hope you continue to enjoy the story even as I attempt to clean it up!

Sora had gone with him into the darkness. The other boy may not know it now, but he’d gained Demyx’s trust and undying loyalty just by grabbing his hand at the last second and holding on. Frankly Demyx was shocked that the other boy was able to come with him at all. It added to the mystery of the Darkness and who was controlling it, or rather if it was his own self that was being manipulated instead.
“Demyx-!” How odd, someone was calling his name, someone he thought he might know but the knowledge eluded him. He was still tired and he didn’t want to wake up.
“Demyx!” It wasn’t Sora’s voice…or Xiggy’s…the superior? No…not him either…
“DEMYX!” He jerked awake with a snort to hear laughter roaring around him, blurry eyes clearing to reveal that he was sitting in a strange room, surrounded by strange people and a strange man was glowering over him.
“Where am I?” he murmured as he rubbed his eyes again, certain that there had been some sort of mistake. Panic hovered just under his forced calm façade, freaking out now in the middle of an unknown situation could get him killed. The people around him laughed louder until a stern “hmph” from the man standing over him quelled their amusement.
“Macro Economics, apparently you forgot since you’ve been sleeping though the entire class!” the man bellowed.
“Macro Economics? The hell is that?” Demyx yawned, extremely confused. The students around him could no longer contain their amusement and laughed uproariously; they’d been thinking the same thing all semester. Before the professor could respond with vehemence the students all rose as one and headed out the door, chattering and laughing along the way. Demyx decided to follow suite and after a quick farewell to the angry teacher he grabbed the bag near his feet and bolted from the room.
As he entered a massive hallway he found himself pushed and prodded with the tide of people, ebbing one way, flowing another. His hair was hardly out of place as he saw the tallest lime green mohawk of his life walk past him. He was frozen in place, terrified and yet at the same time intrigued. When Demyx finally turned to get himself to a safer part of the hallway he immediately felt someone’s nose smashed into his chest.
“Ouch! Watch where you’re going!” the irritated voice snapped from below his line of sight. Demyx looked down to see the blue, choppy, unkempt hair of…
“ZEXY!” He wrapped his arms around the smaller boy and hugged him tightly.
“What the- are you mental?!” an incredibly surprised Zexion howled from the confines of Demyx’s chest. Demyx finally let him go and looked down at the former nobody with a huge grin on his face. Zexion looked up and frowned. “Good grief you remember me,” was all he said as he swiftly broke free of Demyx and ran around him. Demyx lost him in the sea of people and regarded his reaction with a baleful stare. What just happened? What did Zexy mean by his outburst?
“Demyx!” Sora’s voice finally reached his ears and he turned to see the other boy struggling to get to him through the crowd of people. As he got closer Demyx reached in and grabbed the brunette and hauled him to safety. “Hey thanks!” he grinned as he dusted himself off. Sora was dressed a little differently here than he had been in Traverse Town; he was wearing regular jeans and green T-Shirt with the words: “Frogger is my Prince” stamped on the front.
“Who’s Frogger?” Demyx asked.
“No clue, hey I know where we are!” Sora said excitedly, practically jumping up and down.
“Yeah where? Oh! I saw Zexion here not too long ago, I think he knows me, he said something along the lines of “You remember,” but then he left and I don’t know where he went…” he looked around for the other organization member.
“Oh weird!” Sora interjected as he was withdrawing a piece of paper from his back pocket. “So anyway we’re in Godolphin, some strange little town with a pirate history, anyway this is the college, we’re in college, fun huh?”
“I’m in college, you’re too young to be here, what are you supposed to do?”
“Party pooper! Fine, I guess I’ll just walk around the town. It’s a bit different from Traverse Town and Radiant Garden. Maybe I can pick up some information about how and why Zexion got here. It sounds like he didn’t threaten you and if he was feeling combative he probably would have attacked you.” Sora mused. “I’ll meet you back here at like what…three?” he inquired.
“Yeah sounds fine by me, see ya then. I’ll see if I can get Zexion alone to ask him a few questions myself!” Demyx added before watching Sora stroll out the doors. He pondered for a moment regarding his next course of action when a deep voice booming his name startled him into nearly dropping the books in his hand.
He turned quickly to see Xigbar standing there with an amused look on his face. Demyx swore he could feel his face erupt into a fierce blush as he took in the casual slacks, dress shirt and… and the glasses, Xigbar had both his eyes in this world and Demyx had to admit that seeing his lover in glasses was the sexiest thing he’d ever experienced.
“Uh…yessir?” Demyx stuttered as a million different emotions swirled inside him. Mainly hope, confusion and arousal as he imagined taking those glasses off his lover’s face and…
“You’re gonna be late for class, let’s go!” Xigbar answered, interrupting his erotic fantasy as he jerked his thumb towards an open door and walked in front of the confused student skulking along behind him. After following Xigbar into the room Demyx’s eyes quickly scanned his surroundings and found an empty seat next to Zexion of all people. Another grin graced his face and he sat down quickly, praising the luck that happened to be with him today.
Though he had no clue what was going on around him he covertly kept an eye on Zexion and mimicked his and the students around him as he looked into his bag and pulled out a notebook and pen. To his surprise the notebook was filled with notes in his handwriting! He scanned the notes quickly; apparently these were his Macro Economic’s notes, which he still didn’t understand, despite the words flowing in his untidy scrawl. As he turned to another section he found that it was labeled: “World History 203” with music notes and hearts all around it. Demyx looked around the room to see other people with textbooks and rifled around for his as well. He could do this! Proud of himself for once in a long time Demyx opened his book and glued his eyes to Xigbar who was now discussing the rise and fall of Alexander the Great (whoever he was). His pen scratched idly at the paper beneath him and when he looked down he found that he had taken very detailed notes and even some doodles. How curious! Demyx wouldn’t lie at the feeling of awe that his body seemed to remember a life here that he didn’t know at all. Had he somehow fallen into another universe? Was this who he was before he was a Nobody?!
Demyx was so busy trying to organize all his questions that he almost failed to notice that everyone was leaving until it was almost too late. He was also starving and couldn’t remember the last time he’d had a proper meal. It didn’t help that he never knew how long his trips through the Darkness lasted. He also saw it as the opportunity it was to get some of his answers.
“Hey Zexy wanna go have lunch-?” he stopped talking abruptly as he turned to see that Zexion was gone, fled while his back was turned. Demyx began to grow irritated. He had a plan this time damnit and he wanted to see it through, was there something so wrong with that?
“Demyx!” Xigbar barked from his podium far in the front of the room. “My office please at 2:00!” was all he said as he walked out one of the side doors into another room. Confused and aroused yet again, the blond left the room wondering if that was a plot or a promise and failed once more to pay attention to his surroundings until a strong arm wrapped around his throat, cut off his air supply and dragged him away.

“Alright Lex, let him go,” Zexion’s voice was smooth and cold as Demyx opened his eyes and gasped for air trying to fill his deprived lungs. He wheezed and coughed, one hand firmly to his chest to make sure his heart was still beating. As the reassuring thump in his chest calmed him enough to think clearly, he grew angry at his attackers. As soon as he felt Zexion’s hand touch his shoulder he attacked.
His other hand came round and locked with a vice grip on his former superior’s wrist as he stood quickly to his feet, sending the chair clattering backwards on the tiled floor. He applied enough pressure to make the smaller man whimper and glared at Lexaeus when he made a move to come forward. Of course, he didn’t have a choice, a wall of water rose to separate them, one that would not break or budge. “What the hell is your deal?” Demyx snapped. “Are you working for the same guy as Marluxia? For Marluxia? I swear if you are I’m gonna kill you like I killed him!” he threatened.
“What are you talking about? I was going to ask you the same thing!” Zexion shouted. Demyx let go of Zexion’s wrist and dropped his wall of water, sending the wet mass crashing to the floor. He hardly cared; now that the water surrounded all of them it would be easier to stop them if they turned out to be traitors. Zexion rubbed his wrist and glared at Demyx petuantly. “You met Marluxia?”
“Yeah, in Traverse Town.” Demyx answered, hands clenched at his sides, prepared to throw a punch or two if needed. He felt very strange just then, it had been like an out of body experience when he had attacked Zexion, anger and fear mingling to give him a violent reaction that he wasn’t known to sucumb to.
“We saw him here a few weeks ago, trying to convince us to join his little endevour, we weren’t going for it though,” Lexaeus shrugged. “Zexion and I have had enough to do with the Heartless, we’ve been granted a second chance so we’re taking it.”
Demyx nodded in understanding, his head trying to wrap around the alternate time lines. He could have sworn that he and Marluxia had fought only yesterday but it had been weeks since Marluxia last been seen by Lexeaus and Zexion to their knowledge. Traveling must change depending on who and how things were happening. That still didn’t explain what “endeavor” the other two mentioned. He meant to ask that when he caught sight of the books in his hands and realized that he had a life here he had no idea about. “You said that I remembered you, and I have notes for classes in my notebook, how long have I been here?” he asked. “When I woke up in class an hour ago I had no memory of this place.”
“Three years that I know of, we’re juniors together, always in the same classes, but you don’t usually talk to me. I thought this place was out of the way when it came to worlds, but a few weeks ago, just after Marluxia left, Xibgar just showed up out of the blue. Everyone else acts as if he’s always been here; even you, but Lexaeus and I knew that something fishy was going on. And now all of a sudden you know who we are, I’ve been pouring over my notes but nothing hints as to what the hell is going on here. I’m starting to wonder if they have anything to do with it.”
“They who?” Demyx asked, concern edging into his voice. Maybe there was a new evil tied to the Heartless that he needed to warn Sora about in case it tried to destroy worlds again. Something that Demyx could now freely admit that he had no interest in since he was no longer part of an organization that desired that.
“Two girls, about the same size as Lex and myself and one had a fan. I thought they said their names were Raxe and Xylia. They didn’t seem familiar but they were dressed in standard Organization outfits. Do you think Xemnas somehow survived and is making new Nobodies?”
“A fan you say? And one girl…the one about your size…?” Demyx held his hand up to just under the top of the shorter man’s head. “Pointy ears maybe?”
“Yeah, how’d you know?” Lexaeus questioned, with a surprised raise of his eyebrows.
“I don’t wanna talk about it.” Demyx sighed as his mind brought up a certain late night chase and a creepy dungeon hidden deep within the fortress they had all resided in at one point or another. “I suppose I should tell you my part of this story so we’re all on the same page,” and with that Demyx launched into his tale of how he’d been in the darkness and then found himself in Port Royal and later Traverse Town, at the part where he mentioned Sora’s involvement Zexion and Lexaus botth protested. “Hey!” Demyx shouted over their outraged voices. “He’s my friend, and I know I can trust him!” That said the other two shut their mouths and observed Demyx with a new found respect.
“So you’re here to get Xigbar back?” Zexion sighed. “I really have to admire you Demyx; it was by pure chance that Lexaues and I met up again. I was the same as you though, I didn’t remember anyone or anything about the Organization, then after Lex and I…uh…connected again I started remembering everything, that’s when I started writing everything down, just in case I needed it again.”
“What endevor was Marluxia trying to convice you to join?” Demyx asked curiously as he leaned agianst the wall, crossing his arms over his chest.
“He said something about wanting to reform the organization, I suppose he fancy’s himself the superior now that Xemnas and the others were gone, but Lex said that Marluxia said that he was working for someone else,” Zexion explained with a puzzled note in his voice. “We never really got a straight answer from him either way. Unless he was only working a bit for someone new and had plans to overthrow them later, that seems very in-character of him.”
“Marluxia said the same thing, something along the lines of: “Orders from the top, you have to go,” I thought he was joking, until he tried to kill me and the weird thing is, just like you, he knew who I was but Xigbar had no clue at all.” Demyx sighed, a headache forming as he tried to piece together the events that seemed to be disconnected and scattered all over the place.
“I don’t know what’s going on here, but I think we should stick closer together, anything out of the ordinary we tell each other, I’m not here for trouble all I want is Xigbar,” Demyx said, Zexion and Lexaeus nodded in understanding.
“Hey Dem you better get going or you’re gonna be late to meet Professor Braig! I mean…Xigbar!” Zexion said as he checked his watch.
“Oh yeah!” Demyx turned and located the door quickly, fumbling with the knob until he opened it out into the hallway. “See you guys later!” he shouted as he ran down the hallway, feet instinctively taking him towards Xigbar’s office.
“Why didn’t you tell him this wasn’t the first time that Xigbar’s called him to his office?” Lexaeus asked Zexion as they stuck their heads out the door to watch Demyx tear down the tiled floor. Zexion gave a frigid smirk and turned up to his other half.
“Because, I still owe him for flooding half my library that one time, besides, don’t you think it would be a surprise for him if Xigbar jumped his bones the minute he skidded into his office? Now shut the door, I have an hour till my next class,” he ordered as he tangled a hand into the lapel of Lexaeus’s shirt and pulled him close for a scorching kiss. With a fond murmur, the larger man obeyed, after all who was he to argue?
