Magic laced through my fingers as I attempted to heal the frost nymph. I could feel holy energy gathering within my fingers, swirling around them on golden streaks, leaving them moments later to float towards the wound. The nymph was a beautiful creature, once called a branch of dryad. She had the body of a deer with the upper torso of a night elf women. As a frost nymph, she had the special touch of her body having a blue tint; her skin was light blue, with her hair being a much darker shade, the fur of her lower body was a pale blue, the fur being scruffy and white near her hooves. She groaned as her blood flowed out of the large gash in her side, easily a fatal wound. Not if I can help it. I took one hand away from the injured nymph and pointed it at Kyli, who was busy fending off the undead nerubians, large spider like creatures killed and raised by the Lich King. Without even looking, I focused my magic on her. A glowing aura surrounded her moments before a nerubian jumped at her from her side, slashing with its two front legs. Its attacks merely bounced off of the holy shield, leaving it open for Augustus to tackle it from the side, knocking it to the ground and pinning it. Before it could react, the large cat closed its mighty jaws on its neck, ripping out its throat. To his surprise, the nerubian merely knocked him to the side, standing up moments later. He raised a leg to strike at him, when an arrow hissed out of the air, slamming into the side of its head, pushing it into the air and down to the snow, still. Augustus looked at Kyli momentarily, as if saying I could have handled it. The two turned their attention to the remaining undead, shooting and raking them down. Not having paid attention to any of the goings on around me, I exhaled through my nose, trying to remain calm. I trusted Kyli, but there was always a chance she would be overrun. I could likely handle the swarms of undead myself, but the nymph needed immediate attention. Even my slight distraction of protecting Kyli had cost her greatly. I redoubled my efforts, draining myself of my mana. Slowly but surely, the wound on her side began to close, color returning to her face. Her eyes closed, breathing out a sigh of relief as the gash closed entirely. I placed my hand on it, to see if she was still in pain. Her breathing remained steady, though she continued to rest on the snow. Assured that she was going to be fine, I stood up, ready to help Kyli. “Aggh!” I shouted as something rammed into my back, pushing me face first into the snow. Rolling over quickly, I had just enough time to shield myself before the nerubian slashed downward. Even though it was aimed for my neck, it might not have been a fatal blow. Not that I’m willing to take that chance. I quickly kicked the nerubian in the chest, doing no real damage but knocking it back off of me. Jumping up, I began to channel my shadow magic. It went to slash for me again, but I launched a barrage of mental attacks towards it. As an undead, it was only really able to function because of its brain, so it staggered under the assault. Snapping my fingers, its head made a sickening popping sound as it exploded, the limp body falling to the ground. Turning to see how Kyli was doing, I came face to face with a nerubian, arm raised. I had no time to shield myself as its arm came down. It never landed. I blinked, seeing the body of the spider creature twitching slightly on the ground, an arrow embedded in two of its many eyes. I smiled, looking at Kyli, who was panting heavily. Multiple corpses lay strewn around her, all with arrows somewhere on their head. I waved my hand towards her, casting a spell called Renew to do just that. A small smile spread across her face as the magic restored her strength, whistling sharply. Augustus bounded over the corpses, the leg of one of them in his mouth. She raised an eyebrow at him, grinning. Looking straight at her, I could have sworn he shrugged. He sat down on his haunches, gnawing on the bone. How can that taste good? I waved my hand in his direction as well, small sparkles surrounding him, evidence of the magic at work. He didn’t seem to notice, still gnawing at the little meat left on the bone. I grinned, turning my attention to the Nymph. She was still lying on the ground, a smile on her face. She was humming some tune I didn’t recognize. I kneeled beside her, unlatching my mask. Her eyes opened, finding mine and smiling even more. She slowly got up, likely a little unsteady. Sitting down on her haunches, I realized just how attractive her upper half was. She was naked, only having a bit of metal along her wrists and waist. While Kyli was beautiful, this nymph was in a different way. I couldn’t place my finger on it. Not that I had time to, because as soon as she sat up, she hugged me tightly, her ample chest pushing into mine. Smiling, I hugged her back slightly, her back a little wet from the snow. I felt her kiss me on the cheek. Even after she pulled away, I could still feel the tingle her lips left on my skin. Kyli sat down beside me, grasping my hand in her own. I smiled at her, returned in earnest. I returned my attention to the nymph, who was looking at our entwined hands with a curious expression on her face. I couldn’t quite tell what it was. Jealousy? Disappointment? Approval? I never found out, as she immediately changed her expression moments after I saw her. Her face beamed, and when she opened her mouth, her voice was high and full of life. “Thank you so much! I was afraid they would eat me!” I chuckled softly, “They might have. Or worse. But they didn’t, now did they?” She nodded, smiling from ear to ear. “Yep! All thanks to you two! You’re my heroes!” The way she said it made me blush a little, but I shook my head, tilting my head towards Kyli. “Nah, she’s who you should thank. She held them off.” Kyli smiled at me, but the nymph protested. “But you healed me! I would have died if it wasn’t for the both of you!” She pulled us both into a hug, her head nestled between ours. She smelled faintly of flowers, but it was hard to tell. Releasing us, she bounced on her legs, obviously happy. I smiled, glad I made a difference. “How’d you get into this mess?” Kyli asked, turning and leaning against me. Blushing slightly, the nymph looked to the side. “I was just frolicking… as usual. I guess I got a little too close to their city…” I grinned, one arm around Kyli’s midsection. “Frolicking, eh?” She nodded quickly, bobbing her head and smiling once more. I laughed. “What’s your name?” I asked. “I’m Alaya.” She responded. “And you?” I opened my mouth to speak, but Kyli beat me to it. “I’m Kyli, and this is Quill.” As she said my name, her grip on my hand tightened slightly, as if making sure I was still there. I had noticed that Alaya kept flicking her glance towards me while talking. I had once thought I was a good judge of what people were thinking, but this nymph was beyond me. She was too bubbly, too sporadic to read. “Pleased to meet you! Both of you! Do you want to play?” Taken off guard by the question, I raised my eyebrow. Alaya giggled. Her hand wandered off to the side, messing around in the snow. I followed it until she spoke again. “Yeah! Play in the snow! It’s really fun!” I smiled, thinking it would be a nice change of pace. Until now, Kyli and I had been accepting quests handed out by the night elves who had set up camp nearby. There was another frost nymph at the camp, known as Sarendryana, though she seemed hardened in her task. I had overheard from one of the sentinal’s conversations that her trueborn sister had been killed by the Nerubians, and she was determined to bring them down. Alaya seemed much more carefree, bubbly and full of cheerful spirit. It was almost as if- My thoughts were cut off by a snowball hitting me in the face. Laughing, Alaya jumped up, springing away while dragging her hand in the snow, likely making another. Wiping off my face, I sat up, Kyli having leaned away from me to avoid the projectile. I quickly gathered some snow in my hands, packing it into a ball when another snowball flew out of the sky, hitting me in the arm. Grinning, I looked up, spotting Alaya peeking out from behind a tree. I raised my arm as if to throw it, and she ducked behind the icy tree. I lowered my arm, an idea forming in my head. I looked at the snowball, beginning to channel magic into my hand. Completing the levitation spell, I let go of the snowball. It simply remained hovering in the air, bobbing ever so slightly. That’s awesome. I attempted to make it move, but nothing happened. Curious, I poked it. It moved in the direction I pointed it in, still floating. I heard scrambling to my left, and laughter. I saw that Alaya had thrown a snowball at Kyli, who was now rushing for cover. I grabbed my enchanted snowball and threw it at the nymph, who was preparing another. Noticing it at the last second, she jumped out of the way. Due to its levitation, the snowball never fell; it continued its path through the forest, surprisingly not hitting any trees. I followed it until it faded into the forest, thinking momentarily about what it could possibly hit. Another snowball hit me on the side of my head, being blocked by my mask. I grinned, shielding myself. “That’s cheating!” Kyli called, throwing another snowball. It merely broke against my shield, not having any impact against me. Extending my palm to the ground, I casted another levitation spell, causing a block of snow to break free from the rest, floating above it. Moving it in front of me, I canceled the spell, the snow falling and creating a mound I could crouch behind. I think I discovered a new talent. I peeked over my mound just in time to get hit with a snowball to the face, my shield having faded by then. Oh, it’s on. I quickly went to work, gathering snow from all around me, forming one massive clump. The mound was easily as big as I was, crouched into a ball. I quickly cast a spell on it, making it hover. I peeked over my mound again, spotting Alaya and Kyli hiding behind two opposite trees. Deciding Alaya would be a better target; I lifted my snow bomb to eye level and shoved it towards her tree. She had already ducked behind it because of Kyli’s throw, but when my snow bomb hit it, it split, causing all of the snow to fall around the tree. I heard an excited scream as it fell. Moments later, Alaya jumped out from behind the tree, covered in snow. She shook herself off, laughing. “You play well! But you’ll pay for that!” She quickly gathered up some more snow, eager to continue. “There’s another one.” Koltira said softly, watching the Taunka village rush into the stronghold. The death knight merely watched, his gaze frosty, as the tauren like creature immediately went to the main building, where Overlord Agmar sat, doing whatever it is that leader types do. Koltira rolled his eyes as he heard the same declaration of loyalty. Gripping his broadsword, he resumed pacing around the camp. After a few steps, a snowball hit him in the back of the head.
