Axel’s POV Roxas and I had been driving for just over 20 minutes. The journey was relatively quiet save for me giving Roxas directions to Org 13. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Roxas glance at me quickly before he looked back to the road. “Are you ok?” He asked me, breaking the silence that had fallen between us. “Hmm…? Oh yeah. Just thinking” I waved him off dismissively. He nodded keeping his eyes on the road. I sighed and turned to him, thinking some more before I started speaking again. “How much do you know about Marluxia?” I asked. Roxas furrowed his eyes brows and jutted his bottom lip out slightly, before frowning. “Not a lot, to be honest…” He turned to look at me briefly. “Why?” “I don’t know anything about him, but I know I already don’t like him…” I explained as I rubbed my eyes. “There was a reason why he was so secretive with Naminé. If she knew about Org 13 I doubt she’d be so willing to marry him” Roxas narrowed his eyes but kept looking at the road. “What are you getting at?” He asked almost frustratedly. “Org 13 is an underground group of drug dealers. I know this because about 7 years ago just after Larxene and I left home together we were sort of involved with them. Not dealing per se but we were frequent takers of the stuff being distributed” Roxas glanced at me in disbelief, before quickly looking forwards once more. “Why didn’t you tell me this at Naminé’s?” I could tell his mind was reeling from the new information. “You’re not still… You’re not still taking, are you?” He asked me warily. “What? No… This was years ago, I’ve been clean for almost 6 years. But this group is bad news, Roxas. Even if we do find this guy here I’m not sure I want to take him back to your sister” “So what exactly is this place?” He asked as we came to a red light. “From the outside is looks like a normal club, hell even from the inside if you didn’t know better. At least it did the last time I was there. Anyway, if we don’t act suspicious and keep to ourselves we shouldn’t have any trouble. We can just scope it out; if he’s not there, we leave immediately” “Oh, don’t worry. I don’t want to stay there any longer than needed” “You’re not the only one” I muttered, leaning my head against the window as the light turned green once more. — Roxas and I were walking to the entrance of Org 13 after I’d advised Roxas to park as far away as possible from the building. The last thing we needed was for his car to be stolen. “This place is a dump” Roxas observed as he stepped into a puddle littered with cigarette butts. He crinkled his nose and shook his foot of the ‘water’. “Just keep close” I half ordered, eyeing a couple of women leant against a wall. They were both plastered with make up, their cheeks sunken in and the underneath of their eyes darkened which could only be from excessive drug use. I wrapped my arm around Roxas’ shoulders and held him close protectively. Once we entered the club we were assaulted by the pungent smell of cigarettes and god knows what else. Roxas coughed against my side, shoving his face into my shirt in an attempt to stop inhaling the putrid air. “Holy s-shit” he sputtered “What is that? Please say I’m not going to get high or something from this…” “There is a chance, sorry” I chuckled lowly. “Ugh, let’s just find the jackhole and get out of here” He mumbled, pulling his sleeve over his hand and then shielding his mouth and nose. “You don’t need to tell me twice” We wound our way through the sea of bodies, it didn’t help that I didn’t know who I was looking for but I trusted that Roxas would stay vigilant and find him soon enough were he there. Suddenly we came to a stop. I turned to look to Roxas but saw he was being pulled in the opposite direction. “What the fuck?! Let go of me” he yelled at the man clutching his arm. He was wearing a beanie, a cropped top that shown his sickly thin figure and a trench coat with the sleeves cut off. “Aww come on don’t be a chicken wuss, I promise you’ll have fun” he cooed into Roxas’ ear. I saw red as the man grinned against Roxas. Glancing up to me his grin became wider and he tugged on Roxas’ wrist again. Grabbing the man’s hand, I pulled him off of Roxas and shoved him back. “Leave him the fuck alone” I sneered, making sure to stand in front of Roxas so he couldn’t make another attempt to grab him. “Or what?” he taunted as he squared up to me. I felt Roxas place his hand against my arm in an attempt to pull me back. “Come on Axel, he’s not worth it” He urged trying to pull me away. I sent one last glare at the man and turned to leave. “Yeah, go on and leave you faggot!” the man boasted sounding pleased with himself. I closed my eyes tightly at his choice of words and clenched my jaw in an attempt to not retaliate. “Pussy. Got to have your bitch defend you” Without any indication I turned around quickly and punched him right in the jaw sending him flying to the floor. “I can’t say I much appreciate your vocabulary” I grunted pulling him up by his collar. “Apologise to him…now” I demanded as I pointed to Roxas. “Axel, leave it. We don’t need any trouble, lets just… lets just go” He pleaded with me, his hand clutching the back of my shirt tightly. “You got lucky” I scoffed dropping the man to the floor. “That was really stupid of you, you know” Roxas chided as we walked to the exit. “He could call the police and have you arrested for assault…” “Like fuck he’d call the police” I muttered turning back to glare at the man. “He wouldn’t want to get caught doing was he’s doing here” I was just about to push the door open for the both of us to leave when Roxas tugged at my shirt sleeve. “There he is” I turned around to look where Roxas was pointing, and my blood boiled. I was already pissed off to begin with, but who I saw pushed me over the edge. I pushed past Roxas and headed towards Marluxia. He was speaking to some woman and had no idea I was headed right for him. Roughly, I grabbed on to his shoulder and forced him to turn around. “Fucker!” I shouted, grabbing his collar and punching him in the face. I’d clearly stunned him as he didn’t react straight away. He was currently leant against a group of people as he held nose in shock. “AXEL!” Roxas screamed at me. He grabbed me around my waist and pulled me away from the pink haired man. “What the fuck!” He shoved me with a glare. “I know we think he’s a bit of a douche for leaving Naminé suddenly but…” “He… He!” I cut him off and pointed to Marluxia who was now wiping the blood from his face. No doubt I’d broken his nose. “You know this guy right here? He’s cheating on Naminé. You want to know how I know or should he tell you?” I seethed, looking furiously at the man. “What?” Roxas spoke quietly. “Who the hell are you?!” Marluxia spat at me, shoving my shoulder roughly. “You have no right to speak to me” I answered angrily. “You’ve fucked up enough lives already” “Excuse me?” He spoke in an appalled tone, looking me up and down. “What are you talking about?” “Larxene!” I yelled at the man. He froze in his place and glanced away quickly. “Yeah. I thought that name would ring a bell” I looked to Roxas and shook my head sadly. “The other day when I said I saw Larxene with some other guy. Well this fucker is who I saw her with. You want to know something else? They’ve been at it for over 3 months. Yeah, I knew she’d been sleeping with someone else behind my back, because she told me…” I looked to Roxas with sad eyes. “I didn’t know who though. If I had known I would have said something I swear” I tried to look into Roxas’ eyes but he refused to look up. “I promise, I didn’t know until now” Roxas appeared to be thinking. I had no idea what was going through his mind. Oh how I wish I knew. His eyes then suddenly widened. He looked past me and to Marluxia. “Tell me… did you ever plan on letting Naminé know that you possibly have a child on the way?” He asked. I could see the anger rising on his face. “Answer me!” he yelled, clenching his fists at his sides. “I would have told her when the baby was born and it was proven to be mine” he spoke quietly. “Do you think I want to become a father? It wasn’t exactly planned” “I don’t believe you. She’s worried sick about you at home. She begged for us to bring you back safely” he laughed bitterly after that. “She fucking loves you. She loves you with everything she has, every single bone in her body, and you throw it back in her face like this” “And I love her” He answered back, wiping the blood from his face with the back of his hand. “You obviously don’t if you can freely have sex with someone else, and not feel any sense of remorse whatsoever. You’d better tell her everything tonight. I-I’m done. Axel, come on. We’re going home” he grabbed my hand and tugged on it tiredly. Before Roxas could lead me out of the club I turned to Marluxia and narrowed my eyes. “Can I ask you something? Does Larxene know about Naminé? Or are you stringing her along too?” He looked away in guilt. “I thought so.” I laughed sadly and shook my head. “You don’t deserve either of them. They’re too good for you. Larxene may have had her ups and downs but she doesn’t need this shit, not when she’s finally sorting herself out and with a baby on the way” I said finally to him before leaving with Roxas. Once we had exited the club Roxas let go of my hand and punched the nearest wall. “Fuck!” he yelled. Resting his back against the wall, he placed his face in his hands and slid to the floor. “She’s going to be heart broken when she finds out. I swear to god it’s going to take every ounce of my strength to not kick Marluxia’s ass when he gets back to Nam’s” he mumbled into his hands. I sat down on the floor next to him, not minding the dirt and whatever else resided there. He removed his hands from his face and clenched his fist a few times. “My hand hurts…” he winced. “That’s kind of what happens when you deck a brick wall” I breathed out a laugh. Taking his hand I looked it over before bringing it to my mouth and kissing his knuckles. “Better?” I asked. “Not really” “Oh. Well, that’s the last time I do that for you then” I nudged his shoulder slightly. He quirked a small smile at me and then sighed. Placing his hands on his knees he began to stand up with a grunt. “We better head back” he said as he rubbed his forehead exasperatedly. “I should be there for Naminé when that jerk breaks the news to her” — Roxas’ POV We arrived back at Naminé’s later that night. I say night because we had gotten caught in a traffic jam on the way back so a trip that should have taken us an hour took two and a half instead. Naminé must have fallen asleep at some point in the evening; as she was lay peacefully on the couch. Grabbing a blanket I draped it over her so she wouldn’t get cold. I didn’t have the heart to wake her up just yet. She’d need all the rest she could get. I turned the light off in the front room and glanced once more at Naminé’s sleeping form before I made my way upstairs. Tiredly I headed to the bathroom and began running the hot water to wash my face. I sat on the edge of the tub as I waited for the basin to fill. Once the basin was full I shut off the water and pulled off my shirt when I heard a small knock on the bathroom door. “Roxas?” I heard Axel say my name on the other side of the door. Walking across the bathroom I opened the door slightly to answer him. “What’s up?” I asked peeking up at him. He noticed I wasn’t wearing a shirt and his cheeks pinkened only slightly. “Sorry, I didn’t realise you were busy, I’ll come back later” He turned to walk away but before he could go any further I opened the door and grabbed the back of his shirt. “It’s fine, I was only going to wash my face and clean my hand some…” I smiled weakly up at him. “What was it that you wanted?” I titled my head a little. “I just wanted to see if you were ok after everything that happened earlier. You seemed to be a bit quiet is all” He brushed the hair from my face, but it was useless as it only fell back. I leaned in to the touch faintly and sighed. “I’m fine, just a little tired. To be honest I’m more worried for Naminé than anything else” “She’ll be fine, as long as she’s got you here for her” He smiled, his hand resting on my cheek, stroking me lightly with the pad of his thumb. “That’s not it though. I’ve been worrying about this whole thing since she announced the engagement. It’s always been in the back of my mind but tonight made me think my doubts were true. Three months? I’m not saying that it’s not enough time to plan a wedding, but it’s a bit soon don’t you think? I mean Naminé never told me that it was a joint decision on making it so soon; hell, she never really told me anything. But my doubts are that Marluxia had pushed it upon her” “How do you mean?” Axel asked me as he closed the lid of the toilet seat to sit down. “Before my father died, he and my grandparents had set up an agreement of sorts. They all put their savings together in separate bank accounts for Naminé and me. And the money could only be withdrawn if either of us ever got married, just to help out with the first year of marriage. I’m afraid Naminé has told Marluxia about it and he wants the money. Naminé is completely in love with him and she’d agree with anything he wanted so long as he’d stay with her. It wouldn’t surprise me if he even got out of signing a prenup” I sighed and rubbed at my forehead with the heel of my palm. “You really think he’d go through with something like this for some money?” The redhead questioned, leaning forward slightly. “You don’t understand how much money we’re talking about here…” I shook my head weakly. “I’m sure Naminé isn’t that naïve to let him walk away with most of her money like that. She’s a smart girl. Just forget about all this for the time being and let’s just focus on you for the moment” He grabbed my hand that I’d used to punch the wall earlier on and inspected it. His eyebrows furrowed momentarily before he sat me down on the edge of the bathtub and grabbed a wash cloth. After soaking it in the warm water he rang it out so it was slightly damp. Gently he held my injured hand and began cleaning off the dirt and blood from my knuckles. “You’re hand looks pretty swollen but I don’t think it’s broken. Can you move your fingers?” he asked me. I nodded and wiggled my fingers a little to prove it, but winced when I overdid it. “Shit, that hurt…” I sucked in a breath as I tried to relax my hand again. “I guess I can’t do any painting for a few days” I smiled sadly. “Yeah… Just don’t go punching anymore walls any time soon” he chuckled as he poked my nose affectionately. “Yes, Mom” I joked, rolling my eyes. “Hey, call me that again and I might just clean your face with my spit instead of the water” He looked at me seriously for a second before bursting out laughing. “That’s disgusting, Axel” I blanched. “It’s not that disgusting. Have you never had your mother clean your face outside the school gates before or something? It’s perfectly natural. Animals do it all the time… plus saliva has anti-bacterial properties I hope you know” He crossed his arms across his chest, looking somewhat pleased with himself. “Right, that’s it. No more discovery channel for you. I don’t need you licking my face to clean me” I said before sticking my fingers in the water and flicking the liquid at Axel. I chuckled quietly when Axel scrunched his nose and closed his eyes as the water hit his face. Grabbing a towel he dried off the excess water and gave me a slightly annoyed look. Abruptly I leaned forward and wrapped my arms around his waist, hugging him close to me and resting my face against his stomach. I felt a chuckle reverberate through him as he wrapped his arms around my shoulders, his hands stroking the hair at the base of my neck. “Are you sure you’re ok?” he asked, his hand momentarily stopping in my hair as he awaited my answer. “I’m fine” I responded with a sigh, nuzzling my face further into his shirt. “I just felt like I needed an Axel cuddle” Another laugh escaped him and he squeezed me little tighter. “Good to know I’m useful for something” — Two hours had passed since Axel and I headed to our separate rooms at Naminé’s. I had hoped that in that time I would have fallen asleep but apparently my brain had different plans. Sighing, I sat up and scratched my head exasperatedly. I looked at the time and noticed it was ten thirty. Pushing the blankets from my legs I stood up and made my way down the hall to Axel’s room. Hesitantly I knocked on the door, after a second or so I heard Axel call out a ‘come in’. Pushing the door open timidly I peeked my head in and saw he was reading a book. ‘He must have packed it in with his over night stuff.’ I thought to myself. “Can’t sleep?” he asked looking up from the page he was currently on. I nodded in agreement as I opened the door fully. “Thought I’d come and annoy you for a little while, maybe that will make me sleepy” I smiled crookedly, stepping into the room and closing the door behind me. “How thoughtful of you…” He mumbled setting his book down on the nightstand. He shifted over to make room for me and patted the side of the bed, indicating for me to sit next to him. I shuffled over to the bed and slid in next to the redhead. “I know right” I chuckled as I moved closer to him in order to steal some of his body heat. “You can’t say I never think about you” I grinned up at him. “Hey, you remember when I called you a human water bottle? Well that statement still stands. How can one person be so warm all the time?” I smoothed my hand over his stomach and inched underneath his shirt, letting my icy cold digits ghost over the flesh there. I chuckled when I felt him shudder against my touch. “You’re an ass” he muttered placing his own hand over mine in an attempt to warm it up quicker. Suddenly I was distracted from tormenting Axel when I heard a faint clattering noise downstairs. Axel and I looked at each other for a second in confusion. We held our breath in an attempt to hear the noise again and when we did, we both looked in the direction of the bedroom door. Quickly I got out of the bed and tip toed to the door. Slowly I opened it, half expecting to see something on the other side of it. When I couldn’t see anything I let my shoulders droop out of relief, but I heard the noise again. It sounded like it was coming from the front door. “I’ll be right back” I said looking back to Axel briefly before I left the room. Making my way downstairs I could see a silhouette on the other side of the front door. In a panic I grabbed the nearest object I could, which happened to be an umbrella. With the umbrella in hand I opened the front door cautiously. Upon opening it I was met by Marluxia. He had clearly had a few drinks. “The fuck are you doin’ here?” he spoke swaying ever so slightly. “I’m here to keep Naminé from going out of her mind from worrying about you, you insensitive jerk” He scoffed and pointed clumsily towards me. “This is my house, s’you should get lost. This is for me and… Nams to sort out” “You’re in no state to see her right now. Just stay somewhere else tonight and you can see her in the morning” I attempted to close the door on him but he grabbed it and yanked it open fully, causing it to bang against the wall. I flinched at the volume of it. “Please Marluxia, she’s sleeping. She needs her rest.” I ground my teeth together in annoyance. He clearly wasn’t listening to me as he pushed past me and entered the hallway. “If it wasn’t for you and your fucking redheaded friend none of this would be happening. Everything would be fine. Naminé wouldn’t have had to find out anything. I was going to leave that blonde bitch, Larxene anyways…” My eyes narrowed at his words. “You don’t care who you hurt do you? I don’t think you ever had any intention of being faithful to anyone. Tell me, what’s in it for you, this marriage. Why did you want to go through with it so quickly? Hmm? Was there money or something involved?” I grabbed his shoulder and turned him to face me. “Did you plan on marrying Naminé and getting money out of her?” Just as Marluxia was about to answer me we heard a small voice speak up from behind us. “Well? Answer him” Naminé spoke. I could tell from the tremble in her voice that she was trying to stay strong. Marluxia cringed when he realised she was stood behind him and had probably heard the whole thing. Slowly he turned around and he held on to the banister on the stairs for support. “I wasn’t going to leave you when I got the money. I… I just need to pay a couple guys off. I was eventually going to pay you back…” “Yeah right” I scoffed crossing my arms across my chest in frustration. “Oh will you just shut the fuck up. Like I said, if you hadn’t have gotten involved, everything would have been fine!” he sneered at me. “Oh? Do you really believe that?” Naminé asked appalled. Clenching her fists tightly against her sides she looked to the floor. “Roxas? Could you perhaps leave us to talk?” “But…” “Please, Roxas” it was then that she looked up at me. She looked lost, like she didn’t know what to do with herself anymore. But I nodded and made my way to the stairs. “I’ll be here if you need me” I said before I rejoined Axel. — “How much of that did your hear?” Marluxia asked the blonde girl, as he sat on the bottom step of the stairs. “Enough” she said shortly, looking at him intently. She was trying her best not to let him know how broken she was feeling right at that moment. He leant forward and placed his elbows on his knees. Sighing, he rubbed his forehead, knitting his eyebrows together. “I was going to tell you everything eventually…” Marluxia attempted side glancing at the girl stood beside him. “Oh? And when was that exactly? Before you got caught? Because it’s a little too late for that” She whispered harshly. Breathing out slowly she tried to regain her composure. Looking at him through hurt blue eyes she began speaking at a normal level. “If you had told me about the money problem to begin with, I could have helped you. Money would not have been the issue. I really wouldn’t care all that much if I never knew about the money until now, money is replaceable and always will be. But what I can’t forgive is the affair… Am I not good enough? What’s so wrong with me that I drove you into the arms of another woman? Am I repulsive? Do I bore you?” “No, that’s not it…” he rubbed at his forehead once more but more agitated. “Then what is it?!” She cried out, tears finally falling from her eyes. “It was a drunken and drug induced one night stand that got out of hand. I hadn’t intended on it carrying on nor had I wanted there to be a child involv…” “There’s a baby?” Naminé asked tensely. Right then she felt physically sick. Her heart shattered, or what was left of her heart at least. “It might not even be mine!” Marluxia attempted quickly. “She was with someone else when she conceived, it could be the other guy…” “Get out” Naminé spoke quietly, her eyes boring into the carpet. “What?” He asked her confusedly. “Leave!” she yelled pointing to the front door. “No, I fucking live here too” he stood up. “I’m not giving up on you” “Well I’m giving up on you” She looked him dead in the eyes. “Do the last five years mean nothing to you? We can work through this” “I could ask you the same question. I mean… how could you even say that? After it was you who… slept with another woman?” she asked incredulously. “I told you, I wasn’t in my right mind…” “Yet another reason why I should kick your sorry self to the curb. I do not want to be living or associated with someone who takes drugs. Tell me, do you owe the money to a drug dealer?” Marluxia’s silence answered her question. “Please. I won’t repeat myself. Just go” “Fine” He spoke shortly. “I’ll be back eventually and by then you’ll have realised how big of a mistake you’re making” “Meeting you was my biggest mistake” she seethed making sure to stand her ground. “And you can have this back” quickly she pulled the engagement ring from her left hand and held it out for him to take. Once he’d taken the band from her she watched as he headed for the door; and when he finally left, closing it behind him, she deflated. Her shoulders drooped and her knees buckled beneath her. She fell to the floor and sobbed hysterically. Holding her face in her hands she cried violently into her palms. — Upstairs, Roxas had heard everything. He’s sat with his back against the door listening intently. He hated Marluxia for what he had done to his sister, but he was so proud of her for sticking up for herself, something which she often failed to do. When he heard Marluxia leave he breathed sigh of relief. He looked to Axel who had remained sat on the bed, but he could tell that the redhead wanted so much to go down the stairs and have a repeat performance of earlier that night. Suddenly Roxas could hear a faint sobbing. Immediately he got up and was down to Naminé’s side in a heartbeat. “He’s gone” she sobbed into her brother’s shirt, clinging onto the material for dear life. “I know” Roxas soothed, rubbing her back gently. “I’m so proud of you. You really stood your own. He doesn’t deserve the time of day” “W-what’s wrong with me, Roxas?” she hiccupped, wiping away the tears falling from her eyes. “Nothing is wrong with you. He just doesn’t deserve you. You’ll find someone who truly appreciates you one day, trust me” He smiled, stroking her hair. “But the next guy you bring home? Has to go through me and Axel first” He winked with a grin. She let out a small laugh followed by a few shaky breaths. “He said… he said that the woman he’d been seeing was pregnant…” She began, her eyebrows knitting together. “I know” Roxas replied. His voice was solemn as he hugged her a little tighter. “You know? How…” “You should probably speak to Axel. He knows more than I do. But please, remember, that before tonight neither of us knew anything, otherwise we would have told you. I swear” He looked her in the eyes to let her know he was being sincere. She nodded slightly and sighed. “I think I’ll talk about this all tomorrow. I’m… I just need some time alone now. I think sleep will do me some good” she attempted. But Roxas knew she was just going to go to her room and cry even more. The blond knew her too well. But it was how she coped with things and he couldn’t deny her, her space. Brushing her bangs from her face he smiled and stood up. Holding out his hand for her, he helped her up and hugged her once more. “If you need anything me and Axel will be just down the hall okay? If it helps, I won’t mind if you climb in to bed with me like you used to when we was younger” Naminé nodded against his neck. “Just remember, we all love you Nams and you’re not alone in this”
