Disclaimer: I own none of Pokémon except for the situation I put them in. I make no money from this. This will contain only white and black version Pokémon (for a while anyway.) Enjoy. |
A/N: I don’t own Pokémon, nor do I make money off from this. Plus I don’t stick to the four move rule of the game.
Patrick and the Desert Resort
The fire was enormous; the flames could not be suppressed even with the large number of water Pokémon hosing it down. The tremendous heat was keeping them from getting too close and there were thought to people trapped inside.
No one is sure how it started; the food court of the Wildlife Park was just suddenly in flames. Nearly engulfing the surrounding sections, Patrick and his staff were doing their best to stop this from taking out the park as a whole.
“Patrick there are people stuck in the Burger Shack, we have to help get them out!” Greg shouted as he ran up. Greg called out his Heatmor and Patrick called out Golem his Golurk. Golem grabbed the flaming ruins of the entrance and heaved it up Patrick, Greg, and Heatmor ran in, they had rags tied over their faces to prevent the smoke from choking them, except Heatmor. They grabbed the four patrons and started out, but when they were feet from the entrance that was being held open by Golem it collapsed, it was too badly damaged and crumbled into large burning fragments of what use to be the front entrance.
“We need a way out!” Patrick shouted through the smoke to Greg.
“That was it, the back is even worse.” Trapped and no way out.
Meanwhile at the Pokémon center. Rachael answered the phone her face growing in horror as she received the news. “We will be ready.”
“LISA! GET THE AUDINO’S, ALL OF THEM!” she shouted as she rushed to the back to start getting the stretchers.
Lisa grabbed Penelope and rushed around the hospital retrieving all the Audinos.
The front waiting room was a battalion of Audino’s manning stretchers and then every available nurse when they ran out of Audinos. Some of the nurses who had tall humanoid Pokémon had theirs out to help. Penelope was next to Lisa who was standing next to Rachael.
“What’s the deal? What happened?” Lisa voiced her concern at the seriousness and concern now present on Rachael’s face.
“Huge fire at the Wildlife Park, hundreds of Pokémon injured some seriously. And from what I heard several visitors and two of the rangers.” She said fighting back the lump in her throat, trying to stop the tears starting to spring to her eyes. Lisa and Penelope’s face filled with equal amounts of dread.
“You don’t think…” Lisa started, but Rachael made a quiet gesture with her hand and shaking her head to stop the horrible thoughts flying though her mind.
“I can’t reach him on his phone.” She said now fiercely fighting the tears.
“He’s probably just busy.” Penelope said trying to help.
No I would have gotten voice mail; it wasn’t that, it said he was unavailable. Almost like it was broken, and he always has it on him. She finally broke down into tears. Lisa moved to give her a hug but there was no time, the vans and ambulances were arriving. The offloading was frantic, as was triage trying to get to the most critical ones first; luckily Rachael was so busy doing this she had no time to think about anything else.
The way out was blocked. “GOLEM WE NEED A HOLE!” Patrick shouted, hoping Golem heard him over the roar of the flames. While they were looking around for some way out an explosion on Patrick right hit him in the arm with a large pole that was a decoration, he dropped the person he was supporting and hit the floor.
“Are you OK?” Greg asked.
“Yeah I think I’m fine.” Patrick said flexing his arm. “It’s just going to hurt like a bitch tomorrow.”
“Yeah be optimistic, personally I don’t think we are going to make it through today.” Greg responded.
With the sound of ripping and tearing of wood and metal the roof was pulled free and two giant hands swung down and extracted them from the burning ruin. Golurk placed them a safe distance from the danger and they were immediately surrounded by EMTs, giving them oxygen.
“Damn it busted my xtransceiver.” Patrick said showing it to Greg.
“Really? That’s what ticks you off? We nearly died in there, and that makes you mad?” he said with a look of are you crazy on his face.
Rachael was tending to some of the less injured after having assessed the more critical when she saw a figure in red hop out the back of the now arriving van. She started out to them hoping it was Patrick, but stopped as she saw the long blonde hair. She then hurried outside.
“Alex!” she called. “Any critical Pokémon on here?”
No thankfully, we got all them out first, this are just broken this and that’s.”
“Audino rally the stretchers we got another load.” Rachael called over her shoulder. “How is it?”
“Oh man it’s crazy, no idea how it started but one minute it’s all fine and dandy, the next we are battle raging flames that can be seen from, well, here.” she said glancing in the Wildlife Parks direction. It was true, the flames were so tall Rachael could see the tops of several walls of fire accompanied by a thick column of black smoke that darkened the sky turning midday into twilight.
“And how is everybody?” she asked with a slight catch in her throat.
Alex had no expression. “I don’t know, Patrick was commanding the water Pokémon, and giving out orders, he’s the big boss over us you know. Me, Jess, and Greg were busy trying to keep the fire from spreading and leading people to the exit.”
“I know this is kind of selfish but I can’t get ahold of him. It keeps telling me his number is unavailable.”
“That doesn’t sound good, I tell you what, I have to get back, if I see him I’ll call you right away.”
“Thank you!” she said giving her a hug.
Unfortunately she arrived back after he, Greg and some others were taken to the hospital to treat his arm which had suffered first degree burns and minor smoke inhalation. The flames were considerably lower and more under control when she arrived to the scene. Jess was now controlling the water Pokémon. “Where’s Patrick?”
“No idea, he told me to handle these till he got back, he and Greg went to get some people out of one of the restaurants. Haven’t seen him since. I was getting kind of concerned.” Jess replied.
Alex looked in the direction of the restaurants, most were completely collapsed some were almost there. “If he went in let’s hope he got out before it collapsed.” No point in calling Rachael she might assume the worst and I have no idea what happened. She thought. She returned to work even though there was little to do now that the blaze was starting to be contained and not a danger to the rest of the park anymore. She made a round of the park looking for stragglers, or people who were lost and not gotten out yet.
It had been hours since Alex had returned to the park and still no word from her. “What’s going on, why hasn’t she called?” she wondered out loud. Just then her xtransceiver rang, she looked and it was Greg’s number. “Oh no, something terrible is happened.” She said as she answered “Hello?” she said holding in her sobs.
“Rachael?” it was Patrick.
“Oh thank god you’re alright. What’s going on why haven’t I been able to reach you?”
“My xtransceiver got busted as I was getting some people out of the restaurant. Then I was rushed to the hospital…”
“Hospital? Are you alright?”
“I’m fine just a scratch and a few burns plus some smoke. I feel like a Torkoal at the moment.”
“What?”
“Fire Pokémon, breaths smoke. Nevermind. After I get out of here I have to head back to the park to report to the boss, then I’ll swing by the center.”
“Ok. Since you are calling on Greg’s xtransceiver I assume he is ok too, should I tell Lisa?”
“No, he called her first, she knows.”
“Ok I’ll see you then. Love you, bye.” She said.
“Love you too, bye.”
She hung up tears of joy now on her face and turned around, Lisa was standing in the doorway behind her.
“He’s ok.” Rachael said.
“They both are, I told you he was ok didn’t I?”
“Yeah.” She said as sat down totally exhausted from the tense feeling she had since it started and caring for that many injured Pokémon at once.
“It has been one exhausting day hasn’t it?” Lisa asked.
“Let’s just hope I can make it the rest of the way.”
Lisa just smiled and returned to the front desk.
Hours later the team from the park walked in. Lisa called out Rachael and Penelope then gave Greg a rib cracking hug. Rachael was just as glad to see Patrick and nearly killed him with her hug.
“Don’t ever scare me like that again.”
“I think she was worried about him.” Jess whispered to Alex.
The fourth member that Rachael had never seen before was the Ranger that took over Patrick’s section when he was promoted to head Ranger. Her name was Brittney, she was about the same height as Jess and Alex, she had long black hair and dark caramel colored skin.
“Hi I’m Brittney.” She said introducing herself the Lisa and Rachael; her voice was light and sweet. She also had piercing bright green eyes, which seem to see right through you.
“Hi.” they responded.
“Well it’s about time for us to get off work you want to wait we can all go get some dinner.” Lisa suggested. They all agreed, about an hour later they all departed the center and headed to the nearest restaurant.
“Well we are all off until repairs are complete.” Patrick told Rachael.
“Does anyone know the cause?” She asked.
“They are beginning to put the pieces together but it is still unknown as to the actual cause. They said they would let us know as soon as they were sure of it.” Patrick responded.
“All we know is it spread quick, it consumed the food court in nothing flat. I was on the scene within seconds and it was all ablaze by then.” Greg interjected. “The girls arrived after me and started escorting people to the exit and Patrick took control of spread prevention. He controlled those Pokémon like they were all his, of course about three were.”
“Four.” Patrick said. “The rest were Brittney’s.”
“What kinds were they?’ Rachael inquired.
“I had all but Wailord with me, he takes a lot of room. Let’s see, Simpour, Milotic, Poliwrath, Blastoise, and Lapras.” She counted on her fingers as she named them off. “Oh and a Magikarp I just caught last week.”
“You seem to have a lot of water Pokémon.” Penelope put in.
“I was going to be a water trainer, until I took an arrow to the knee.”
“What?”
“Nothing, it’s a joke. Training just didn’t appeal to me so I decided not to.”
Dinner finished up, and they all headed home totally exhausted from the day’s events.
Patrick and Rachael didn’t even make it to their bed they fell asleep on the couch watching a movie.
He woke up to Slice standing next to the couch staring at him. “As comforted as I am to your presents, standing over while I’m sleeping, kind of creepy.” He said. Slice merely cocking his head at the comment.
Patrick stayed in the next day relaxing, except for a short trip to get a new xtransceiver, he calling out a few of his Pokémon just to have some company while Rachael was at work. He had Mienfoo and Sawk do a little sparing. He was getting really strong now, as was Sawk, they were becoming some of his most powerful. Although they didn’t share the same kind of odd bond he had with Shadow his Zoroark and Slice his Bisharp. He had the TV on and heard a news report of the yearly migration of the desert Pokémon. They weren’t Pokémon usually found in this region but every year they appeared in great numbers in the desert resort. Trainers gathered there to catch them just to have an exotic Pokémon. Patrick knew he was off. “I should go and see if I can get one.”
When Rachael got home, “Hey can you get some time off work?” he asked.
“Why?”
“I was hoping to go to the desert resort and catch a rare Pokémon.”
“What?” she said with a dangerous tone.
“Not that kind of rare, just one not usually from this region. There is a mass migration that happens every year and I was hoping to get one. The timing is perfect I’m off till the park is repaired and if you can get off it would be perfect.”
“I’ll see what I can do. Get everything ready just in case.”
The next day he got everything together and ready to go at a moment’s notice.
She came home all smiles. “We can leave tomorrow if you like. It’s great being the Head Nurse.”
“Great, everything is ready. I’ll call and get us some plane tickets.” He said.
They woke up early and caught the plane to Castelia City, the nearest one to the Desert Resort. When they landed they rented a 4x4 jeep and set out for the Desert Resort.
They stopped at the entrance, there were cars everywhere, it was packed. Patrick hopped out and slung on his bandolier, they grabbed their packs and headed in. Patrick looked around at the people. “We are never going to catch anything if we stay here, let’s go further in where there are less people.” Of course it took them awhile to find a place where there were less people, they could be seen for miles, campsites everywhere.
After they had been walking for some time, and there was no end to the people Rachael asked, “do you think there is a place no one is?”
“There has to be, they can’t be everywhere.” He replied.
Slowly after hours of walking the crowds thinned, then finally there was none.
“See I told you, looks like everyone from the city is here.” After they set up their camp Patrick said, “I’m going to go look for some ones I don’t have. Braviary, scout.” He said calling him out. Immediately Braviary called out and started to circle something not too far away.
“Let’s go!” Rachael cried running off before he did.
Patrick called out Slice, “Guard.” Slice gave a nod of understanding and they started off.
They approached slowly Braviary after seeing they had arrived moved off to not draw the attention of the Pokémon. Patrick peeked over the ridge it was a tan Pokémon with a tail and a strange brick like pattern to his skin. He was fighting with a red Pokémon Patrick recognized in no time, it was a Darumaka. “You want one?” Patrick asked.
“Yeah which one you want?” she asked back.
“I’ll take the red one.”
“Oh good, I wanted the tan one. Reminds me of Digger.”
He pulled his Pokédex and targeted the tan one. “Sandshrew the Mouse Pokémon. When in danger this Pokémon rolls into a ball to protect itself, in lives in dry arid regions.”
He called out Tragg his Gigalith. “Stealth Rock first.”
The two Pokémon were suddenly surrounded by rocks with no way out, or so Patrick and Rachael thought, but the Sandshrew seeing the blockade merely plowed into the sand and took off. Not to be deterred Rachael called out Digger her Drilbur and called it to pursue. She took off in the direction of the path Drilbur made. Patrick called out Shadow with a quick order of follow and he was off.
Meanwhile the Darumaka was making a show of attacking the wall of rock, then Tragg entered the field. Darumaka attacked with Fire Fang but jumped back after tasting Tragg’s rock hard body. “Rock Blast Tragg.” He started throwing rocks, Darumaka was swift moving this way and that, jumping, and diving, he dodged them easily. “So it’s going to be like that is it. “Power Gem!” the rocks around him started to glow and rise then flew at great speed at the Darumaka. He was lucky at first, he dodged about half then a rather big one grazed him on the arm and started him spinning causing more to collide with him. He jumped up and retaliated with Fire Punch, not affecting Tragg that much, the Darumaka was out matched. “Stone Edge and end it.” The stone on top of Tragg’s head glowed and he swung it down and collided harshly with Darumaka, he was driven deeply into the sand, Patrick threw his poké ball and after a slight struggle it stilled and Darumaka was caught, he then transferred it to his storage.
He looked over the rise as the Stealth Rocks fell to the sand he didn’t see Rachael. “I hope she’s ok.” he said to Tragg.
“GIGA.” Was his only reply.
He waited several minutes more still not seeing her. He wasn’t too concerned, Shadow was with her and he was hard to beat. He finally stood up and turned to Tragg. “Maybe we should go look for her.”
“GIG.” he replied nodding to Patrick’s back, he turned and saw her coming his way at a jog, Digger on her heels and Shadow striding along at her side.
“Did you get it?”
“Did you?” she replied with an obvious what kind of question is that tone.
“That’s great!” They moved further out, Braviary was still in the sky searching out prey, Zoroark was prowling along behind them, like a fox looking for his next meal.
“That Sandshrew you got is one of those uncommon to the region type I was talking about, some might call it rare.”
“I just remember your first obsession with rare Pokémon that nearly cost you me. Hand me your dex.”
He handed her the device.
“What time do the Pokémon move through?” she asked.
“Move through? I don’t think there is a time; I think they just come through around this time of the year. It’s not a herd.”
“Which one is it?” she asked as she looked through the list of desert Pokémon.
“That one.” he said pointing to the Hippowdon.
“Now I want one too.” She said looking at the little hippo.
They walked on through the endless desert seeing nothing. Suddenly a tower seemed to rise from the ground. “What is that?” Rachael finally asked not sure if it was a mirage or not.
“The Relic Castle.” He answered.
As they got closer she could see an entrance. “Can we go in?”
“There could be Pokémon in there, sure.” He signaled to Braviary that they would be inside he landed by the door and waited.
They entered the tower and she immediately found a place to sit. “Go look around, I’ll be here.” She said pulling out her water. He merely shrugged and went exploring.
He was on the far side of the tower when he saw a stairway, and an odd Pokémon drifting its way up.
I don’t recognize that one. He said reaching for his Pokédex and finding the pocket empty remembering Rachael had it.
I was purple bodied with two tendril like arms and large yellow eyes and a grey facemask that it was holding under its actual face with a small tail-like appendage.
“I have no idea what type that is. I guess I have to take a chance. It looks like it might be ghost they are always weird looking.”
He reached up to the bandolier and grabbed Flicker’s ball. He exploded in a shower of stars. He was a Chandelure, he was also Patrick’s first shiny. “Shadow Ball.” Locating the target Flicker let loose the orb, it collided into the back of the Yamask.
“YAMASK!” It cried without hesitation as it spun around and sent a will-o-wisp attack. Flicker dodged it and sent one back, it was also dodged.
“Overheat.” It was released, a blast of immense heat that brought Patrick back to the fire at the park, the only difference was the park was hotter. The Yamask was encompassed by the move. “Shadow Ball.” Patrick called before the move ended so it would have no time to recover. The Shadow Ball struck him square in the face, he cartwheeled into the wall and Patrick tossed a poké ball. Yamask put up a valiant fight but was too weak to break free. “Good job Flicker.”
“Chandelure!” it cried in joy.
He returned to Rachael who was lounging there by the entrance looking quite content Zoroark curled at her feet. “Find anything?”
“Yeah a Yamask.”
She quickly typed the name. “Weird. Why’s it holding that gold mask?”
“Gold? It’s silver.”
“No it’s not.”
“I think I know what I caught.”
“Well check again, because it’s gold.”
I can’t, I transferred him, didn’t need him taking up the ball, then I couldn’t catch any more. Ready to go?”
They continued to hike north, they found a rise that was close to the rock wall that was the boundary of the resort. He stopped immediately. “Do you hear that?” She stopped too.
“No.” she replied in a whisper.
He held up his hand and pointed to the rise. “It’s coming from over there.” they crawled to the edge and peeked over. They watched the scene playing out before them.
“Scrag, scrag, Scraggy.” The small yellow one said pulling up his ‘pants’.
“Scrafty.” The larger yellow one stated with a wave of his hand that meant it was final. The smaller one didn’t seem to like that. They would have watched what happened next, but the ground under Patrick wasn’t that stable and as it gave out he tumbled down with it. In a shower of sand he hit the ground at the foot of the Scrafty. He was not impressed or amused, he was quite pissed actually from what Patrick could see from the look on his face.
“Scrafty.” He said really slowly all the time staring at Patrick. It pulled its fist back; Patrick started to move back, he knew what was coming, he wasn’t fast enough and the brick break grazed the side of his shin peeling off skin and nearly breaking it. He pulled Golem’s ball from his bandolier, he emerged casting a large shadow in the falling sun.
“GOLURK!” he cried in his deep voice raising his arms in a classic bodybuilder pose.
“Focus Punch.” Patrick called, it was a high power move he had been trying to get Golem to learn in his spare time, it was hit or miss, most of the time miss, but this time he was hoping that if he was in danger Golem could do it. He was right, as he drew his fist back it was surrounded by a red cloud of energy, he brought it forward in a uppercut motion, Scrafty realized too late what was about to happen as it connected with his whole body sending him flying, they saw him land about a hundred yards away. “Mega Punch. the small one.” He ordered, he wanted to catch one. He delivered several of them all under the orders of Patrick. It failed to rise, from his laid out position he tossed the ball and Scraggy was his. It was about that time Rachael got to him with Shadow close behind her. She had found a safer way down so if he was hurt she could help him get back to camp.
“Are you ok?” she asked with concern.
“I think so, just a little painful. Golem, shoulder ride.”
He scooped him up and placed him on his shoulder. “To camp.” He said pointing in that direction.
They entered camp under the ever watchful eye of Slice. Who was looking quite annoyed. The reason was when he saw Patrick was injured, he was mad he wasn’t there to exact revenge. He was shouting his annoyance. “Yeah Slice I know I should’ve never have left you here, big mistake on my part I apologize.” And with that Slice became quiet, his point having been made.
Rachael looked over his leg. “Well it’s not broken, lucky for you or that would have put an end to our trip, I can wrap it and it should be good enough to walk on tomorrow. But it’s still going to hurt.”
His xtransceiver rang after they had eaten the sandwiches he had packed. “Yeah Greg I’m at the Desert Resort, how did you know?” Talking from the other end. “Oh yeah of course. Well we are in the back.” more talking. “They did? Thanks for the heads up on that. Yeah maybe we’ll see you tomorrow.” he hung up.
“He said that the Pokémon organization set up several transfer units at the entrance. I want to get my new one.”
“No. You stay here, I’ll get them. You need to rest your leg so you can go out tomorrow. Don’t worry I will be fine, Shadow lets go.” He leapt up from his location that was in the shadows and stalked along behind her.
She scared him when she came back, the first thing he saw was the Scrafty that Golem had uppercut a hundred yards down field. He started to hurriedly crawl back till he saw Rachael and Zoroark right behind it. “Shadow Dark Pulse!” Shadow merely turned to Rachael and she gestured no. He did nothing. “What are you waiting for?” then he thought what is it waiting for, it should have attacked by now.
“It’s mine now.” Rachael stated returning it to its poké ball. As I was looking for a way down I saw it go flying, so I ran to where it landed it was out cold. So I caught it. And that’s where the way down was.”
“Oh.” He said as she handed him his poké balls.
Now I want to prove you wrong, call out your Yamask.
“Fine.” He tossed one Darumaka popped out. “Nope not that one.” He threw another one.
“Scraggy!” it cried coming out of the ball.
“Nope not that one either. Must be this one.” He tossed it out. The Yamask appeared in a shower of stars to the shock of both Patrick and Rachael. “It’s a shiny one. I had no idea.”
“Sorry for calling you a liar.”
“It’s fine.”
Later that night they laid under the stars figuring it was a nice night why not take advantage of the view. He started kissing her on the neck and as she moved closer he moved lower reaching her breasts and beginning to suck each one. He started to move down to her pussy but the pain in his leg shot up to his brain stopping him. “Damn it that hurt.” She sat up and started to pull off his clothes leaving him completely nude, she then proceeded to remove all of hers; he could see she was already quite turned on by the fast breathing.
She rolled over and started to suck him, “this should make it feel better.”
She stopped and moved till she was sitting over his face. “Is this where you were headed?”
He could smell her sweet aroma, she was practically dripping in anticipation. He drug his tongue from one end to the other sending a shiver through her body, he did it again and she came all over him, he licked her clean. She then moved down to lay on him placing their chests together.
“I’d love to do more but I can’t move that well.”
You don’t have to move she said as she rose up and positioned herself right on him and drove down with such force he was fully imbedded in her. She slowly started to rock back and forth, gaining speed with each one till she as moving at break neck speed her breasts jumping up and down as she rode away. He was in paradise, she was driving him to the point of no return, he finally could take no more.
“Here it comes.”
“No, please hold it a little longer.” She said feeling on brink herself. With great force of effort he help it back.
“I can’t…much longer.” He groaned.
“NOW!” she screamed as she came again, he released in her, she slumped forward her head now resting on his chest her heaving breasts crushed between them. “Oh god, that was good.” She said barely able to catch her breath. He grabbed the blanket and pulled it over them both of them as they fell asleep.
The sun was cresting the rise and shining down on their camp site, they had awoken an hour before hand hoping to get an early start on hunting and seeing and catching the elusive Pokémon that was migrating through.
“I hope you’re not too tired from last night.” Rachael said with a smile.
“Me? You were the one doing all the work.” He responded.
“You can repay me when your leg gets better.” She replied with that same smile.
This time he set Serperior as the camp guard since Slice absolutely refused to do so this time. Serperior was the only one that he could spare to leave behind that would have the desired effect on would be thieves and wasn’t really needed to catch Pokémon.
“Alright.” he said picking up his pack “let’s go.”
This time they didn’t head north but west. They hadn’t been walking for a long time when they came across a maze of rock formations. “We don’t need to get lost in here. Braviary, scout” Patrick said calling Braviary.
They navigated through several of the corridors and had been moving for some time, all the while his leg started too increasingly hurt, then finally they emerged in an open area, it was a dead end. “There’s nothing here.” Rachael said sounding quite annoyed.
“Not quite, I am here.” A voice rang out. They looked around and saw nobody.
“Who said that?” Rachael cried with a slight quiver to her voice.
“I did.” It said.
“Do you see anything?” She whispered to Patrick.
“No.” he muttered quietly.
“And you won’t.” it replied and started laughing. The laughter bounced around on the walls surrounding them and seemed to come from everywhere, much like the voice had before it.
“I can’t pinpoint it.” he whispered back.
“You never will.” The laughter started again.
At this point Patrick got even angrier, with his leg hurting and now he had problem with this hiding coward.
“GOLEM!” He cried. The laughter died immediately.
“Show yourself or he will start to shake things up.”
The wall directly across from them started to ripple, then they realized he had been standing there the entire time. He had a cloak that was camouflaged to blend into the rock/desert landscape.
“What’s your deal?” Patrick asked now quite angry.
“It’s what I do. Odd, no one’s ever thought to call their Pokémon, at least not one like that.”
“I’m guessing you like to rob people.” Patrick stated outright.
“No I usually ask them to leave their cash and food and leave.”
“And if they don’t.”
“I rarely have to resort to that.” he said with a smile. “Trapinch.” He added.
It was like being in a whirlpool of sand; it was blowing at high speed, enough to peel your skin if for a protracted period of time. Finally it died, and looking around Patrick saw that he was surrounded by a wall of sand. All the sand they had been standing on had been blown to create a wall, almost as high as Golem, and at the tricksters feet was what Patrick assumed was a Trapinch. It was small, tan and with a head bigger than its body, with small, beady, dead looking eyes. “That’s when I battle them.”
“If that’s rarely I can assume your Trapinch is deceptively strong. Unless you don’t use him.” Patrick added the last part in an undertone.
The trickster started to laugh again. “You don’t seem to realize the danger you’re in.”
“I don’t think YOU realize that fact.” He said casually wiping sand off of his chest drawing the eye to the twenty-nine poké balls he was decked out in, bandolier and gloves. He had six on each glove and the other seventeen clipped to the bandolier. The trickster’s eyes grew wide; they could see him rethink his game. “So you want to battle or what?” Patrick finally decided to ask.
“You’re not going to cheat are you?”
Patrick turned to Rachael. “That’s a hell of a thing to ask me isn’t it? Especially from him.”
“Got any rules?” Patrick asked him.
“Two on two, no exchange till knock out.”
“Call your first one.”
“Trapinch go.” the little one hesitated for a moment then moved forward.
“Golem go.”
“Ready?” Patrick asked. He nodded. “Start.”
“Golem Heavy Slam.”
“Dig.”
He hit the ground but by that time Trapinch had gone under. He stood up and waited for the Trapinch to reappear. He burst from the ground drilling Golem in the leg, causing him little discomfort “Dynamic Punch.” He slammed his fist into the ground but he had burrowed in again, Golem was too slow. “Earthquake.” The ground bucked and rippled, around them blasts of sand were shooting upwards. At the far side of the field a small Pokémon was shot out. It was long and low tan with black stripes and a black mask on his face. “It’s a Sandile.” Patrick said. “Hammer Arm on the Sandile.”
He struck him hard driving him into the ground. It stood up and called some big rocks that were laying nearby to fly towards Golem, Sand Tomb, he merely batted them aside. “Hammer Arm again.” Again he hit him hard. The trickster watching the battle had a plan. As Golem stepped back he threw his poké ball. Suddenly a giant bird swooped out of the sky and plucked it out of the air. Patrick tossed his own a second later and had the trickster’s not been snatched he would have caught Sandile. The poké ball quivered slightly then went still. Patrick transferred it.
He turned to the trickster. “What the hell did you think you were doing?”
“It’s all fair till it’s caught.”
“No, what’s fair is I’m not going to have Golem pile drive you into the ground.”
“Can I have by ball back?”
“Oh you want it back?” The trickster nodded. “Braviary, loose that ball, somewhere far away.” The trickster face a mask of shock when he saw the glimmer of the sun reflect off his ball falling far away.
“I’ll never find it!”
“Oh well.”
The ground trimmered slightly at Golem feet. He hopped back just as Trapinch burst through, he delivered a Focus Punch right into Trapinch’s open maw. “Trapinch is unable to battle you want to continue this?” For a second he thought he was going to give up.
Then he threw out a second poké ball.
“Grumpig.” It was a three foot tall pink bodied pig with black on its arms, legs and ears, plus an extra-long tail.
He scanned it with his dex its Psychic, Slice would be perfect here, but he couldn’t change out until Golem lost.
“Golem Shadow Punch.”
“Psychic Piggy.”
Too late to call Iron Defense he watched Psychic hit full force and Golem stumble causing him to deliver a reduced power Shadow Punch.
“Psychic again.”
“Iron Defense.” Golem’s legs buckled and he hit the ground.
“Psyshock.”
“Iron Defense again.” Even with that he couldn’t take the hit and fell causing the ground to vibrate.
“HAHA, I brought down the Giant.”
“And sealed your fate.” He turned to Rachael. “Slice or Shadow?”
“I’d say Slice.” She said picking up on what he was trying to do.
“But Shadow gets so little fun.”
With his superb hearing the trickster could hear every word. Slice and Shadow what are they talking about? He thought.
“Slice might get mad at me if I leave him out again.” He said to Rachael.
“That’s true, maybe you should.” She said as if he was convincing her.
“Hey don’t have all day.”
With that Patrick slowly turned and said. “Slice it is.” He pulled the ball marked with a blade and tossed it.
“SHARP!” he shouted as he burst forth, menacingly slashing his blades in complex patterns.
“Pregame.” He raked his wrist blades on his mid blades and a few on his head.
The trickster was slightly shocked by the crazy Pokémon, and his seemingly independent attitude.
“You ready?” Patrick asked.
“Yeah, have been.”
“Not you, him.” Patrick said indicting Slice.
“It doesn’t matter if he is.”
“If he’s not it’ll be worse for you.”
Slice nodded.
The trickster was a little thrown by that comment, how can he be more dangerous if he wasn’t ready? But he thought not to voice this.
“Piggy, Psychic.” Patrick grinned at that, apparently this guy had no idea about dark type which was kind of strange.
“Slice Night Slash.”
Slice waited till the psychic wave passed over him then raised his blades and charged. They glowed purple as he brought them down striking the Grumpig across the chest and causing it to fall in pain.
“Get up Piggy. REST!” The grumping sat up and fell asleep.
“Slice Teach.”
At this the trickster looked confused, teach wasn’t a move he’d ever heard. Slice’s eyes flashed at the command. He moved like lightning, stopping for a second before Grumpig then he rained Metal Claw and Iron Head on the undefended Pokémon, resting or not he was going to feel this. Finally seeing Grumpig was about to fall out Slice roundhouse kicked him and walked back to Patrick.
The Trickster was in shock. “You cheated!”
“How?” you didn’t you real moves.
“And if I didn’t what are you going to do? Tell the Pokémon Organization you tricked someone into a fight and they cheated?” he said seeing the hopeless expression on the Trickster’s face. “Yeah I thought not, and for your information they were real moves, just in a complex pattern taught to him by me. You got any more or are we done here?”
He stood there saying nothing for a while.
“Let’s go this idiot’s got nothing and my leg is starting to hurt more.” They both turned and walked off; Slice was watching their back just in case.
As they cleared the rock formations they just headed off in a random direction not really caring as long as they got far away from that weirdo. Patrick looked up, he had been looking at the ground for several minutes and realized “where’s the camp?”
“I don’t know I was just trying to get far away from him.” She responded.
He let out a whistle. Braviary descended from the skies. “Locate the camp.”
He jerked him head in to the right of their present position. “He says it that way.”
She wasn’t listening to him she was watching the horizon that seemed to be undulating more than what the heat was causing. “What’s going on over there?” she asked.
“I don’t know let’s find out.”
They had walked about half the distance, when Patrick fell. “We should go to camp.” Rachael said.
“No, I just need a lift. Lairon.” He wasn’t that big but he was big enough ride.
“You are kidding me? You’re going to ride him?”
“Call out your Gigalith, he could carry you.”
“I’ll walk.”
They made their way to the disturbance; it looked to be a herd of Pokémon moving through.
“Hippowdon, the Heavyweight Pokémon. Hippowdon is a Ground type. It is quick to anger and shows its gaping mouth in a display of power. Hippopotas. The Hippo Pokémon and the pre-evolution of Hippowdon. This Pokémon is a ground type as well. They usually travel in colonies of around ten, and dislikes water.” The dex rang out.
“Well that’s the one I came for.”
“It is?”
“Yeah.”
“We wait till the end of the pack gets here and attack, so we don’t get the whole herd turning on us.”
They waited for seemed like hours. Finally the rumbling was lessening and the vibrations were diminishing. Patrick looked up and saw one or two running at the back, two Hippopotas.
“Lairon, Iron Head.” He barreled across the distance and struck one of the Hippopotas with his armor covered head sending it rolling.
“Spout, Scald on the other one!” her Panpour hopped up and opened fire with a jet of boiling water from his tail.
He didn’t expect her to try and catch one then he thought, why shouldn’t she?
His hippo was getting up and charging at him, he was guessing it was Take Down, Lairon sidestepped it as it passed harmlessly by. Then out of nowhere he was struck by what looked to be a small truck.
“HIPPOWDON!” It roared. It was black and had glowing red eyes. He pulled the dex if it was a shiny he had to catch it too. He called out Pansage to keep the little one busy.
“Hippowdon.” The dex started.
“Know that, move on.” He said pressing the button.
“The female is all black and very protective of its young.”
“Great, a pissed off mother.”
“You close to catching yours?” He called to Rachael.
“Not even, it’s stronger than it looks.” Or it could be the fact I don’t use Spout that much.
“Lairon get up.” It was struggling to stand. “ROAR!” Patrick called.
“LAAAIIRRROOOOON!” the roared.
The Hippowdon seemed to cower slightly but didn’t run as was the desired effect. It then dug down and was gone, moments later it erupted upwards under Lairon sending him flying. He landed some twenty feet away and struggled to rise again. Several thoughts were going through Patrick’s head at that moment. How much more can he take and which one do I call out next?
Then without command they both charged each other, Patrick could tell it was Take Down, the problem was Hippowdon was about three times his size. They collided and Lairon was the loser it was flung back twenty or so feet again. “Get up Lairon you can beat him. I know you can!” Lairon rose and roared, and started to glow and grow to seven feet tall. The roar also grew to deafening level.
“AGGRON!” It roared again.
Patrick thought he was close to evolution but you can never be sure with Pokémon.
Even with the bigger size he was not only slightly taller than Hippowdon. “Iron Tail.”
They clashed again and again then Hippowdon moved quickly and Aggron fell. Patrick didn’t see the move she used but it must have been powerful.
The Hippowdon gaze fell on the Pansage toying with its young one. But before it could charge him Patrick called out Seismitoad.
“Toad.”
“Hydro Pump.” It blasted the Hippowdon and it started to charge him.
“BRINE!” he heard off to his right, it was Rachael directing Spout to attack the Hippowdon.
Under the double water attack it collapsed, and Patrick wasted no time throwing his ball. It took no time and bust free.
“Resume Hydro Pump.” As Spout resumed Brine.
It fell once more, Patrick threw his ball again and this time after a slight struggle it sealed and he transferred.
He then turned his attention to Hippopotas Pansage was playing with. It was attacking and he was dodging them, and throwing out a vine whip every once in a while.
“Leech seed.” He called. Pansage tossed them out and they took root on Hippopotas causing him to seize up and fall. “Seed Bomb.” It struck and he threw his ball. It struggled a little then it sealed and was transferred.
“You got yours?” Patrick asked.
“Yep.”
“ Good, now let’s go back to camp.”
This time she called out her Gigalith and rode him back to camp. Patrick had to call out his too, as Aggron was too wiped to do so.
They arrived back to their camp and Serperior seemed to be in an uproar.
“Serperior what’s the problem?”
It hissed and gestured in the direction of what looked to be another camp site.
“Don’t worry about them. As long as they didn’t bother you.” At that comment he let out a string of hisses. “They did?”
It nodded with a hiss. “Let’s go see what they wanted.”
They walked over to the other camp, he and Rachael still had their Gigalith’s out and Serperior followed as well. As they grew close he could hear talking.
“Hello?” he called.
The talking ceased and from around the corner of the tent Lisa appeared buttoning up her shirt.
“Lisa what are you doing here?” Rachael asked.
“Same as you I imagine. Greg and I were looking for your campsite, figured maybe we could camp together.”
“Sure sounds good.”
“Your Serperior tried to kill me.” Greg said appearing around to side of the tent quite disheveled.
“I can see.” Patrick said seeing his appearance.
“Oh that’s not from him.” he said glancing at Lisa who was smiling broadly.
It took some time for them to move their camp. When they were done, they pulled out their food they had brought for the long trip.
“So how did you find us out here?”
“That was pure guess work. Greg here had a hunch.”
I saw a Braviary flying yesterday, I figured you would use him to spot Pokémon, you said you’ve done it before.”
“Then why didn’t you find us yesterday?” Rachael inquired.
“I saw him late, he was already north of here so we were camping there. This morning I saw him rise from the ground, I figured you were camped further south. So we came down here and found your camp. Your Serperior obviously had orders to kill intruders, whether he recognized them or not. Imagine seeing a giant snake slither out from behind your tent and rear up nine feet in the air. We left and went searching, we figured we would get you when you got back.”
“Yeah sorry about him, Slice had guard duty the first day and was pissed he wasn’t there when I did this.” he said gesturing to his injured leg.
“I need to get my new ones.” Rachael said finishing up eating and getting up. “I’ll get yours too, hey Lisa come with me.”
“Did either of you get any new ones?”
“Three, wait till they get back.” Greg said.
Patrick called out his Darumaka, the shiny Yamask, and Scraggy. “I’ll tell you the story when the girls get back.”
Rachael and Lisa were on their way to the front gate. “I’m sorry we interrupted you and Greg.”
“Oh don’t worry we were done, he was just playing with me when you got there.”
“You have a wedding date set yet?”
“Not yet. But we will soon.” Lisa responded.
When they arrived back at camp Greg picked one at random and opened it.
“Sandile.” It called.
“You already have one, why do you…” Patrick didn’t finish the question seeing the colors. Instead of the brown with black stripes it was a greenish color with black stripes. Next he called out the other. A Maractus came out. It was reddish purple color around the feet, plus its hands and around its ears. The needles and eyes were also red the normally pink flowers on its head were now yellow. Then he called the third one. It was a Darumaka, but instead of the usual red its body was a dull red almost pink.
“Got them all at the same time. Well the Sandile and Darumaka, the Maractus I got before we came in here.”
“Three shiny’s, are you serious?”
“You got two.” he said gesturing to the new Yamask.
“I got a few new ones today.” He said calling out his Sandile and Hippopotas.
“Oh nice, the one from the news.”
“Yeah, main reason we came. Rachael caught one too. But the real interesting one is this.” He threw out the last one.
“HIPPOWDON!” It roared standing six and a half feet tall and.
“It’s like a midsize car!” Greg exclaimed. “Wait the color, that’s not normal. Is it a shiny too?”
“No it’s just the female and if you think it’s bad now, imagine how mad it would be seeing two people attacking its young.”
“These?” Greg inquired gesturing to the two Hippopotas he and Rachael had. Patrick nodded his head. “Aggron evolved and she brought him down.” A look of utter shock came across his face.
“Seriously? But he’s like crazy strong.”
“I know.”
They all called out the Pokémon they had caught trading stories of how they caught them. Lisa had a Trapinch and a Dwebble.
“I saw Braviary make an odd track in the sky earlier what was that about?”
“Oh that, I left out the story of that jackass, listen to this.” He relayed the story of the trickster and how he tried to catch the Sandile and how Braviary stole his ball and proceeded to lose it.
After they got done trading stories, Patrick called out his Pansear. “I was thinking of giving him that stone, any thoughts?”
“You haven’t used that yet?” Lisa asked as she was the one that gave it to him.
“I had to make sure he was ready. “Pansear Crunch.”
He showed his fangs and seeing Serperior latched onto him. Serperior being so strong, whipped him sharply and he went flying, Patrick recalling him to the ball so he didn’t have to go collect him. He then called him out again. “I’ve been training him, he just learned that last week.”
“I think you should go for it. He could be useful at the park.” Greg said.
“It’s already burned once; I don’t want to cause the next one. But you’re right he could come in handy. Here Pansear catch.” He said lobbing the stone to him.
“PAN!” he cried in joy holding the stone up so Patrick could see he caught it. He started to glow, he grew another foot in height, and his tail got bigger as well.
“Simisear.”
“Return.”
“Simi.” And it returned to its ball.
“Hey Lisa you have to show me where you caught that Trapinch, it’s the only other one I was looking for.”
“Sure. In fact I have a great idea. Let’s trade partners.”
Rachael just looked at her for a minute before responding. “Just for Pokémon hunting right?”
“Of course. Although…” Lisa trailed off eyeing Patrick.
They all retired to their tents to get some sleep for the next day.
They got up early and had breakfast and set off in different directions. Patrick left Tragg, his Gigalith, as he and Lisa went North and Greg and Rachael went East towards where she and Patrick caught the Hippopotas.
“I don’t think they will still be there, they were moving through at a pretty good clip yesterday.”
“If they moved through once it means it’s a travel path and those are inherited. So it’s bound to be used by more we just have to wait a little. And if it’s not you just have to put up with me for a few hours.” Greg started the conversation.
“Don’t be like that you aren’t annoying. I like you.”
“Oh thanks.”
“I always thought you put up with me because I was Patrick’s friend.”
“If I didn’t like you I wouldn’t have set you up with Lisa.”
“Your comment last night kind of sounded like you didn’t want to.”
“Oh about the trading, no I was joking, you know how Lisa is about Patrick, she’s always making those innuendo comments.”
Lisa and Patrick
“You know I stayed with Penelope after she was attacked. She told me what happened between you two. She didn’t mean to, it was an accident.” Lisa started the conversation when they were well away from Greg and Rachael.
“You can’t tell Rachael. I don’t know how it happened she was just so insistent and I wanted to help.”
“You did that alright. She’s really heartbroken you aren’t with her.”
“To tell you the truth I didn’t know she was interested in me until Rachael told me after we got back from the Pinwheel Forest.”
“You really couldn’t tell? She was real obvious about it.”
“I guess I never really looked for it. Why look for something I already have.”
“Rachael is really luck she got you.”
“Why?”
“Some guys are asses that are looking regardless to whether they are married or not. I think it’s up here somewhere.”
“How can you tell? There is nothing here.” Patrick said.
“There was a depression in the ground and that was in about that position.” she said pointing to the tower Patrick had caught his Yamask in two days ago.
“It’s highly unlikely we will find another here but I’ll take any chance I can get.”
“I can think of a way to pass the time.” She said. He glanced in her direction. “Not that, although…no I meant a battle.”
“How many?” Patrick asked.
“Just a one-on-one. But you call yours first, and no crazy Slice.” She added as she saw him reach for his ball.
“But he wanted to see you again.” he said with a smile.
“Braviary.” He said tossing him out.
So Braviary she thought that means none of my grass types, or bug. Striker! The answer came to her like lightning. Striker he Zebstrika would be perfect. Patrick not too familiar with her Pokémon, he only knew for sure she had a Vanillite and the ones he saw last night.
“Don’t you dare go easy on me.” she said.
“You do realize what you’re asking?”
“Yes.”
“Ready?” she nodded she was. “GO!”
Braviary took flight. “Agility Striker.” Lisa called.
“Brave Bird.” Braviary went into a dive. Even with agility it was not fast enough to dodge the devastating attack, Braviary crashed into him and took some damage himself but inflicted far more on Striker. Braviary hopped free of the mess he made and took flight again. Striker climbed back to his hooves.
“Discharge!” she cried. A great current blasted from his horns and surged through the air striking Braviary, he seemed to freeze momentarily then fall to the ground, regaining his senses before he hit the ground and managed to avoid the collision.
“Oh damn!” he heard Lisa say snapping her fingers.
“Crush Claw” he called. Braviary dived out of the sky again and grasp for Striker but he was too fast and dodged the attack, he managed to give off the Thunder Wave Lisa called as Braviary dove.
Patrick could see the end of this battle in sight.
“Discharge!” she called again and this time it hit he didn’t recover and slammed into the ground.
“I won!” she exclaimed as she jumped up and down.
“Return.” He recalled Braviary.
“I thought you were good?” Lisa asked. “Rachael’s always saying how good you are. Maybe she was talking about the bedroom.”
“You tie my hands…”
“No, that’s her job.”
He just shook his head. He then spotted a dune. “Let’s get concealed behind that dune and see if anything comes out.”
They crouched there for several hours, the sun beating down on them and seeing nothing.
“Damn, it’s hot here.” He finally said.
“It’s a desert.” She replied dryly.
“I say we head back…” she clapped her hand over his mouth and pointed to a faraway moving object. It seemed to be floating, but it was hard to make out an accurate determination as the intense heat was causing the wavy air to distort the image.
“Let’s get closer.” Lisa said.
As they moved closer Patrick could finally realize it had been floating as he had thought.
“It’s a Sigilyph. I never thought I’d see one.” He called out Slice.
“Slice Night Slash.” Slice jumped into action laying into the Sigilyph. It immediately replied with a Light Screen and Reflect trying to diminish Slice’s unrelenting onslaught. Slice finally fell back and retreated back to Patrick waiting for new orders. The Sigilyph now attacked with a Psybeam breaking over Slice causing no effect, Slice seemed to be amused by this as he chuckled. The Sigilyph not to be deterred called up a Whirlwind, it would dismiss them from his presents. Slice again found this amusing.
“SSSLICCCEEEE!” His blade glowed a bright green and he released a force that broke through the Whirlwind totally extinguishing it.
“Finish him off.” Lisa said it but Slice not caring, again flew towards him laying blow after blow on him.
Patrick believing the end was near called “Yield!” Slice retreated a few steps and Patrick threw the ball, the Sigilyph batted it away with utter contempt. “Slice resume.” It smacked Slice back and cased a move Slice began to sway back and forth, then fell face first into the sand, and lay still. “Hypnosis, huh. Shadow.”
“Zoroark.” He cried out.
“Dark Pulse.”
He didn’t move. He just seemed to stare.
“Shadow Dark Pulse.” He then noticed he was looking at Slice laying face down. Slice was rarely defeated and the ones that beat him were not something he wanted to mess with. He just turned and looked at Patrick. “Dark Pulse.” Shadow turned back to the Sigilyph. And saw a Giant Eye right in his face, without any attacks Sigilyph seemed to have worked out there weakness and cased Miracle Eye. Shadow batted it away but its effect was down, He called up Dark Pulse and threw it at the Sigilyph. He recoiled from the move but he was still in the fight.
“Why isn’t he going down?”
“Maybe he doesn’t find you attractive.” Lisa interjected.
“Really, now?” he said looking at her with an irritated look. She just smiled.
“You know what, the hell with this.”
“You’re giving up?” Lisa asked completely surprised.
“Oh no I’m just going to end it.” he said pulling a ball marked with a lightning bolt.
“Mechanicum GO!”
Shadow turned and looked at him with a you don’t think I can do it look.
“Shadow grab him and keep him from moving.” Shadow darted across the field dodging Psybeams that could now hurt him and Air Cutters as well. He dove behind the Sigilyph and before he could turn he grabbed his “wings” and pinned them down to his sides.
“Mechanicum Zap Cannon.”
Mechanicum started to whirl and spin sucking in all the energy the heat from the desert provided and all aimed at the struggling Sigilyph. He released a blast of light so bright nothing could be seen except the white light he emitted. When it was all over both Sigilyph and Shadow lay on the sand smoking. Patrick threw a ball and he was instantly caught, no struggle, no fight. He recalled Slice and Shadow and sat down. “I hate having to do that.”
“Do you do it often?” Lisa asked with true inquiry no double meaning in her voice as she sat next to him.
“Not that often, usually it’s Rachael that chips in.”
“Let’s just go back, I’m beat and my legs starting to hurt again.”
Lisa and Greg
They had been sitting for a while seeing nothing. Finally She spotted a Maractus. “Oh look.” She said “it’s so beautiful.”
“Go for it I already have one.”
“Alright here we go.” She wasn’t going to play fair; she called out Swoop her Tranquill and Whiterwings her Pidove.
She called repeated Air Cutters on the Maractus. Roots sprang out of the Maractus and sank into the ground restoring her health. The day seemed to suddenly get brighter.
“Oh damn this isn’t good, bring it down quick.” Greg told her.
“Why?”
“Just do it!”
“Swoop Air Slash.”
“Too late.” Greg said. The flowers on top of Maractus’s head were aglow and without any further ado blasted two separate beams both striking their target Tranquill and Pidove. Both hit the sand hard and lay unmoving.
“Oh no.” Rachael said.
The Maractus seemed to be enjoying this, it danced around emitting sounds reminiscent of maracas being played.
“Scrafty go.” he turned and looked at her.
“GO Headbutt!”
He turned back to face the enemy.
He pulled his cowl up and proceeded to use Brick Break.
“No Headbutt. Why isn’t he listening to me?”
“He doesn’t respect you. They are like that.”
“Why? I caught him.”
“How?”
“Patrick’s Golem punched him and he was thrown several yards, I found him and he was unconscious, so I caught him.”
“Ah. You didn’t beat him so he doesn’t trust you to tell him how to fight.”
They turned back to the fight and saw Scrafty deliver a Hi Jump Kick special delivery to Maractus’s face.
She threw the ball and she was caught. She recalled Scrafty. Well damn he’s going to be less than useless if I’m ever in a bind.
“We can figure something up.”
“Let’s head back it getting late and I didn’t have any lunch.”
“You know it’s only a little past noon.”
“So what was going on back there you were so worried about?”
The Maractus used Sunny day, and when that happens one move is sure to follow, Solar Beam. That’s what hit your birds. I beat you anything had Scrafty not dispatched her so fast she would have done it again.”
“Why is Solar Beam sure to follow Sunny Day?”
“Did you notice the sun get stronger?” she nodded. Usually Solar Beam has to gather in solar power then strike but with Sunny Day it doesn’t so, no wait on high power move. This Pokémon know her stuff.” It was at that point they saw a bright flash off in the North.
“What was that?” Rachael stopped as she stared.
“I have no idea.” Greg said. “Aren’t Patrick and Lisa off in that direction?”
“Yes.”
They headed back to the camp.
Greg and Rachael were sitting at the fold out table they had brought with them as Patrick and Lisa walked up. “Looks like they are back too.” Lisa commented obviously to something Patrick had asked.
“You were up north of here right?” Greg asked.
“Yeah, why?” Patrick answered.
“We saw some bright flash from that direction and were wondering if you saw it.”
“Not only did we see it, we made it, it was like fireworks.” Lisa answered.
They both looked at Patrick who was rolling his eyes and shaking his head in an exasperated way.
“It was Mechanicum’s Flash Cannon. I’m still seeing spots. That reminds me, I need your Audino to heal Slice and Shadow.”
“Both? What the hell did you fight?” Greg asked.
“A Sigilyph.”
“A Sigilyph? Its psychic, how did it beat two dark?” Greg asked.
“That is a question I would like an answer to.” Patrick responded. “I need to go retrieve them.”
“I’ll go get it.” Rachael said. “I need to get mine too. Besides it will give me and Lisa a chance to talk.” Lisa just looked at her with a confused look as to wonder what they had to talk about. “Come on.” Rachael motioned for her to follow.
As the girls left Greg and Patrick sat there in a nice peaceful silence. Finally Greg decided to ask the question he put forth to Rachael.
“Does Rachael like me?”
“How do you mean?”
“I mean does she find me annoying and just nice to me because I’m your friend?”
“No, she likes you, she considers you her friend too. You don’t think she is your friend?”
“I just never really thought about it. Friends weren’t something I’ve had a lot of experience in. I could count them all on one hand if I had too. Lisa is the only girlfriend I’ve ever had.”
“Rachael was my only one. And I don’t see any in my future.” They both laughed at this.
Rachael and Lisa
“So what did you two do?”
“What kind of question is that? We went looking for a Trapinch.”
“No not that. There has been something about him for a while I can’t really remember when it started but it’s new. It’s like he’s keeping something from me.”
“Oh my God. Remember the LAST time you had that feeling? You nearly broke it off messing the whole thing up.”
“I was just wondering if he might have said something.”
“Not to me, and why would he? I’m like your best friend; he knows I would tell you.” Lisa said thinking of the discussion she had with Patrick about Penelope. She really wanted to tell her about it but that would not only get him trouble which she didn’t want, plus would also violate the trust Penelope had put in her, and Rachael would probably be mad at all three of them.
“Did Greg say anything I need to know about?”
“Just that he thought I didn’t like him. Don’t worry I set him straight.”
They arrived back in camp shortly afterwards. “You know a lot of people have left, there was barely four dozen at the entrance.” She tossed the Sigilyph’s ball to Patrick. He called him out.
He was about four and a half feet tall and he was quite weird looking. The third eye on the appendage perched on top of his head was quite unnerving.
“He certainly is interesting looking.” Lisa said with a note of I must say something nice.
“I think I’ll call him Warden.”
“Why?” Rachael asked totally confused.
“The dex says he used to guard an ancient city, and prison have wardens, he’s like a warden.”
“Bit of a stretch, but whatever.”
“I’d say he’s more of a guard, so Sentry or Sentinel would make more sense.” Lisa put in.
“Sentinel, that’s not half bad. Fine, Sentinel it is. I’d still like to find a Trapinch, it seems to be a fairly strong ground type.”
“Yeah but if you think about it you have a Hippopotas and the evolved form Hippowdon, so you don’t really need Trapinch.” Rachael stated.
“And if you train the Hippopotas like you were probably planning to do anyway you will have two massively strong ground types.” Greg put in.
“Well that’s true but you know I don’t really care about strength all that much, I mean it helps but…” he trailed off. He wasn’t really sure how to end that sentence, he was thinking of saying Pokémon are good friends but he now has friends and he thought that might be a little insulting to them.
“You just want more friend’s right?” Lisa said saving him the trouble.
“Yeah, I guess that’s what I was trying to say.”
They had a nice meal and all retired to their tents.
They awoke early the next morning and after breakfast decided to head for the Relic Castle and see if anything interesting was there.
It was an immense structure. They all stood staring at it for a moment captivated by its size.
“You know the tower is deceptive, it makes you think it’s a small place but this is huge. Greg said.
“I don’t think we will be able to explore the whole thing today.” Patrick stated.
“I wonder how many kinds of Pokémon are in there?” Lisa mused.
After all the anticipation they had built up it was a bust. Although it was open to the public they crews were in the process of clearing out sand from the lower levels and they couldn’t continue any further.
“So what are we going to do now?” Rachael asked.
“Well we could go back to our camp and have a few Pokémon battles.” Greg put in but it was quickly put down.
“Nah, we all know what each other’s got and there would be no challenge to it.” Patrick said. “Besides I’d beat you all.” He added sarcastically.
“Oh well now it’s going to happen, that’s a challenge and I intend to make you wrong.” Greg said.
Back at camp they cleared an area big enough for their match.
“I’ll be the ref.” Rachael said taking position at the side of the ring.
“So one on one?” Patrick asked.
“Yeah.” Greg answered.
“Call your Pokémon.” Rachael called.
Krookodile, and to no surprise Slice.
“If you forego your move sets I’ll forego my teach command.” Patrick said.
“Agreed.” Greg replied but at the word ‘teach’ Slice started to sharpen and ready to go crazy.
“READY?” Rachael called.
“Yes.” they replied.
“Go.”
“Metal Claw!” Patrick called. Slice slightly hesitant glanced back at him then proceeded to charge.
“Crunch!” Krookodile rushed him. Slice darted to the left and drug him metal claw down Krook’s side.
“Sandstorm.” Greg called.
“Oh shit. Slice Slash.”
He raced across the sand to stop Krook’s Sandstorm before it could really get going, and just as he was about to strike Krook swung his tail around and sent Slice sliding across the sand.
“He doesn’t have any tail moves.” Patrick muttered. But Greg hadn’t called it so he decided not to break their agreement. Slice rose from the sand in a whirling cloud of biting fragments, stinging and poking him relentlessly. It was only going to get worse he realized.
Greg had a strategy to use with the sandstorm but he couldn’t use it with calling it to Krook and breaking his deal about no planned moves. “Dig Krook.” He called not able to see but know he could.
Slice heard the command and was staggering blind through the whirling cloud of entropy, not being able to see a foot in front of him and the sun nearly all but blocked out by the sand. Suddenly he felt the ground vibrate and he started to run ready to dodge. Inches behind him a giant five foot Krookodile burst from the ground and tackled him into a roll, and then flung him clear as he completed the roll. The sand started to slow and fall back to ground as Slice rose from the ground.
“Night Slash.”
“Sharp sharp Bisharp!” he shouted back as he completely ignored him and charged at Krook. He was taken by surprised and was tackled and assaulted by Slice in a vicious onslaught of Metal Claw, Night Slash, and Iron Head in rapid sequence.
Patrick grabbed his ball and was about to recall him when he heard Greg shout. “OUTRAGE KROOK!”
Krookodile went into his own outburst, first flinging Slice clear and then charging him down retaliating in kind to the same treatment he had received.
After Slice was thorough pummeled and Krook had retreated several steps. Patrick decided to end it there, he recalled Slice who was rising from the sand muttering curses.
Greg gave a what’s up gesture from across the field Patrick just waved him over.
“What’s the deal?” he asked as he ran over.
“This wouldn’t end well I can guarantee it.”
“Better to stop now and call it a draw.”
“I think Krook could handle him.”
“Have you been present at all the stories I’ve told you do you not realize which one we are talking about? This isn’t Yeti or Seismitoad we are talking about here extreme grudge.” He said motioning to Slice’s ball at the grudge part.
“Maybe you’re right. It’s a draw.”
Well that was certainly interesting Lisa said as they all sat down in the center of their camp. Patrick moved to clear up the mess his back pack had made, apparently it had been blown over in the Sandstorm and all the contents knocked out, he mindlessly threw everything back in as the conversation pick up.
It’s about time we went home isn’t it? Lisa asked.
“I got five days off.” Rachael put in.
“So did I. But with all that’s been going on I lost track.”
Rachael ran down the events of the past days checking off days on her fingers. “Let’s see, we arrived and caught some Pokémon, you got hurt.” she gestured to Patrick. “Second day we fought some idiot and caught some Pokémon, the third we traded partners and today we went to the Relic Castle and were disappointed. This is the fourth day. We have to leave in the morning. Dang.” Rachael said with a pout.
“Vacations have to end some time.” Greg said.
“Even ours whenever they get the park rebuilt.” Patrick said.
They decided to not do much the rest of the day they relaxed and played games, cards of several kinds Lisa had brought.
After a few games Patrick took the opportunity to check the immediate area to see if anything might be there, but it was a futile attempt. He still wanted a Trapinch but with no days left he bowed to the fact that he wasn’t going to catch one. He returned to the camp and after they had whatever food they had left over for dinner they retired to bed.
They awoke quite early and headed back to Castelia City to catch their flight home.
“What flight home do you have?” Patrick asked.
“The early one. Probably the same one you have.” Greg replied.
The flight home wasn’t that long but it was boring and having nothing else to do he fell asleep.
He was awoken by Rachael telling him they were about ready to land.
They decided on a party at Lisa and Greg’s place later that night obviously inviting their friends and having a good time.
They told them of all that had happened and even Penelope had a story of a couple of trainers coming in and a Pokémon fight nearly breaking out in the waiting room she used her Houndour to stop it.
“Wow Pen that’s great!” Lisa said completely missing the annoyed look on her face at the name.
“Yeah Penelope, sounds like you are really getting to know your Houndour great.” Patrick put in. At this her face lit up in a giant smile.
As the party was winding down they all decided it was time to go. It was late and some had to work the next day, mainly Lisa and Rachael.
Patrick had been asleep for what seemed like minutes although the fact that it was predawn outside told him that was wrong. He stared at the window wondering what had woke him up.
Then he heard it again, a slight scratch on the door followed by a low call.
“Sharp.” he heard whisper.
He moved quietly to the door and opened it. Slice was standing there pointing rapidly to the other room with wild hand gestures and movements, in his barely conscious state he merely said “go handle it.” he swore he saw a smile appear as he shut the door.
He had barely made it back to the bed and laid down when a giant crash and the falling of pans brought him fully awake and Rachael sitting straight up in bed. What was that?” she asked slight fearful.
“I have no idea.” He said moving to the door.
“Don’t go alone.” She said with a fearful quiver in her voice.
“Don’t worry Slice is out there.”
He opened the door and disappeared down the dark hallway. Rachael sat in bed for several minutes with the cover pulled up to her neck twisting them in fear.
“What the hell…”
“Patrick?” she called cautiously.
“It’s alright, come look at this.” She heard in a slight amused tone.
She walked into the living room it was empty, she then moved to the kitchen and there in a giant mess was Slice dangling a struggling Trapinch by the back legs.
“What the hell is going on?” She asked.
“I have no idea, but I would like an answer to that myself.” After a few minutes, “Slice ask it what it’s doing here and how it got here.”
“Bisharp, sharp, sharp.”
“Trap, pinch.” He swung his head to dislodge himself from Slice’s grip.
“Go get Shadow. If he breaks free I don’t want to let him get away.” he said in an undertone to Rachael.
She returned in minutes Shadow walking beside her.
“He doesn’t seem very talkative.” She said.
“I don’t think he will talk without me catching him.” Then a thought struck him. “I’ll be right back.” He returned minutes later with a ball.
“So you’re going to catch him?”
“Not yet.” He said with a smile. He tossed the ball and Sigilyph.
“Sharp.” He heard hiss with quiet menace.
“Sigilyph read his mind.” he said pointing to the Trapinch.
“Sigilyph.” He floated up to the Trapinch and put his three prong “hands” on either side of Trapinch’s head.
“Sigilyph.” He said after a short time.
“Now show me.” He said.
Sigilyph repeated the process on Patrick, seconds after starting Patrick just collapsed.
“Patrick!” Rachael called in shocked fear, as she kneeled down at his side immediately. She shook him to no avail. Shadow wasn’t sure what happened but he saw who caused it and night slashed the Sigilyph till it collapsed.
“Zoroark.” He said quite pleased with his handiwork.
The kitchen was quiet, no one or Pokémon said anything, Rachael just kneeled there cradling Patrick in her arms.
“Please wake up.” she cried.
“Wow.” he said slowly. “That was crazy. I never want to read a Pokémon’s mind again.”
“Are you OK?” Rachael cried in relief.
“Yeah I think so. Just a bit of a rush, wasn’t expecting that. But I did find out how he got here.”
“Well?”
“He stowed away in my backpack. It fell over in the Sandstorm Krookodile created and to escape it the Trapinch crawled in, he found some food and ate it, then decided to take a nap. Next thing he knew I was shoving things on top of him and snapping it shut, he was trapped. He finally managed to break free and came in the kitchen to get some food. Knock him out Slice, I going to catch him now.”
“Sharp.” he replied which Patrick took to mean with pleasure. A few slashes later and he hit the floor, and was caught.
“That had to be the easiest one yet.”
He then saw Sigilyph. “Why is he on the floor?”
“ZO ZO Zoroark.” Shadow launched into an explanation.
“Oh, I got it. Thanks Shadow, I appreciate that.” he recalled Sigilyph.
Shadow replied with a nod.
“Let’s get back to bed and deal with this in the morning.” He said indicating the mess.
He awoke and Rachael was gone, as he expected, she had to work. He checked the clock it was about ten. So headed to the living room and grabbed his xtransceiver and gave Greg a call.
“Hey Greg you up?” “You have got to come over here, you aren’t going to believe this.”
He called Alex and Jess just for the hell of it, Jess said she would be right there, but Alex was busy.
Jess arrived before Greg. His jaw nearly hit the floor when he opened the door she was wearing a tight shirt the showed off her arms and midriff, it looked to be a tank top cut in half, and a pair of shorts that were barely there at all and hugged her in all the right places.
“Come in.” he said.
Pokémon Center
Rachael walked in the door to the Pokémon center and she let out a large yawn as she passed the front desk.
“Are you tired?” Lisa inquired.
“Yeah last night was crazy.”
“Really?” Lisa interest peaked. “Do tell!” she said closing her current book.
“No not like that, we found a Pokémon in the apartment.”
“Is that some weird sex game?” Lisa asked with a completely straight face.
“No. We actually found a real Pokémon in the apartment.”
Was it his Serperior or his Snowcone?”
“I don’t know why I talk to you.” Rachael said as she turned and headed to the back room.
“No really tell me.” Lisa called after her.
“You done being a smartass?” Rachael asked, as Lisa gave her a look of am I ever?
“Fine.” She finally said as she laid out the whole sequence of events.
“So after all that complaining he got one?”
Back at the Apartment
“So what was so unbelievable that I just had to come over to see?”
“Let’s wait till Greg gets here, then I’ll tell you.”
“So we are here alone?”
“Yeah.” He said with hesitation.
She walked over and gave him slow kiss on the cheek. “So is the bedroom this way?” she asked slight pulling him with her. She couldn’t hold it back and started laughing. “I had you! Oh my god! It was sooo funny!”
A feeling of relief passed over him as he realized what she was doing. “I thought you were serious. Don’t do that.”
“Why don’t think you could restrain yourself?” she playfully asked.
“Actually yes, that is exactly it.”
Luckily he was spared her response by a knock at the door he hoped was Greg.
“Hey sorry took me longer than I thought.” He said coming in. “Oh hey Jess.”
He tossed his transfer ball and out popped the Trapinch.
“Trap Trap.” it called snapping its jaws.
“Where the hell did you get that?”
“Funny story sit and I’ll tell ya.”
After he was finished. “So he just decided to stow away? Man I have got to get some of your crazy luck with Pokémon.”
“Says the guy who caught three shines back to back to back.” Patrick replied.
“That’s not luck that’s skill.” Greg replied as he leaned back in a cool pose.
Jess just laughed at their byplay.
They all sat and talked for several hours after words wondering when the park would be reopened and how the fire started in the first place, it could have been any number of things. Finally Jess said she had to go with a hug and a kiss she took off.
After the door closed. “What the hell was she wearing?” Greg asked.
“Not much that’s for sure.”
“She’s crazy.”
Rachael, Lisa and Penelope arrived later carrying pizza for them all.
He told Penelope of the encounter as she hadn’t heard it and Lisa got the finer points having just got the basics from Rachael Trapinch was still out from earlier but now was laying in the corner. “You know Slice isn’t going to like him in his spot, you might want to make him move.” Greg said.
“Yeah good idea.” he said.
He took him to another corner and told him to stay. But minutes later when he was talking again he saw Trapinch sneak back to Slice’s corner. Maybe if I call Slice out he will get the message.
He moved him again and called out Slice out he took one look at his corner and realized something had been there. His eyes swung to the Trapinch. “Bisharp.” His voice dripping with murderous rage. That should have been enough to let Trapinch know not to mess with him but he did. They conversation had stopped and they were all watching what was about to come. Patrick pulled his dex seeing the determination on Trapinch’s face.
“Bide. The Pokémon stores energy and then releases it with devastating force.”
“This is going to be bad.” Penelope said covering her eyes.
Slice just stood there cursing at the Trapinch. At least he assumed that what he was doing there was a lot of pointing and once a throat slicing motion.
Suddenly Trapinch released his bide. It stuck an unsuspecting Slice knocking him against the wall and to the ground.
“Trap, trap.” he said snapping his jaws.
Trapinch ran up to Patrick thinking he would be congratulated. Patrick just looked at him “you’re in trouble now.”
“Trap.” he said cocking his head to the side.
“Sharp he heard from his left, as soon as he turned Slice collided with him sending him sliding to the opposite wall. He was dazed by the pure power behind the strike.
“Slice yield.”
Those eyes swung on him and just stared.
“Do it.” he said putting a little force behind the command.
“Sharp.” He said giving a not worth my time hand gesture to the Trapinch.
“I’ll have to settle this in the park tomorrow.” he said.
“I want to see that.” Greg said.
“Is it over yet?” Penelope asked from behind her hands.
“Yeah it’s over, for now anyway.”
The next day he woke early and grabbed his Pokémon and headed to the center first he had to transfer Trapinch and free up his transfer ball. He then turned in Slice and Trapinch so they were in top condition for their battle in the park. After they were done he called Greg and told him he was headed to the park and if he wanted to watch he would wait.
He picked his spot under his tree and get out some of them to get some fresh air. He feed some of the bigger ones that couldn’t be let out at the apartment.
He had just recalled the biggest ones and called out Slice and Trapinch and in a flurry of color minus blue they appeared, he assumed they had planned it that way. At seeing them he raised his eyes to the sky and shook his head.
“What do you want this time?”
“You seem to be under the impression we wanted something the other times.”
“Well you did, to annoy me and to get a beat down. I’m sorry I can’t accommodate you today I’m busy.” He said hoping if he was nice they might leave. Although the beat down comment must have stuck.
“We challenge you.”
“WHY?”
“We are going to beat you down.”
“SHARP!” he heard the cry from behind him. He just smiled.
“OK let’s go.”
“You have to use your Bisharp.”
“Ha, you are assuming he will let me use another. He’s going to destroy you. Call your first victim.”
Auburn stepped up and called out a Hitmonlee.
“Kanto fighter type. Should have known.”
“Sharp.” He said stepping up.
“Ready?” Amber called.
“Yes.” they replied.
“Hi Jump Kick.” She called. He flew across the field and high velocity but Slice was quicker and side stepped the move and bring an Iron Head move down on his extended leg, there was a sickening crack and he crashed into the tree he was headed for. Slice turned his back to look at his handy work. Patrick wasn’t looking at the field at the moment having turned as Slice had.
“Trap!” they heard call and they both turned as he tackled Slice out of the way just in time as he took a Focus Punch from the approaching Hitmonchan. It hit Trapinch square in the body sending him colliding into Patrick knocking him to the ground and knocking the wind from his lungs.
“Teach.” he managed to gasp.
Slice leaped in swinging metal claws and slash attacks at a rapid pace. But he was fighting a Hitmonchan the Punching Fiend, no Pokémon could match his speed in punching moves, and he was firing off, from what Patrick could see Fire and Ice Punches. Slice stepped back for a second and rang off and unnerving sound the kind that puts your teeth on edge, or a high pitched tuning fork. The Hitmonchan recoiled back and he leaped in again. After a few hits the Hitmonchan recovered and started firing off moves again.
He swung a Sky uppercut, luckily Slice had seen him prepare and dodged it barely and delivered several more cuts finally brought him to the ground. Slice went to his knee, he was panting for the extreme exertion, teach had never taken that long before, plus the Hitmonchan had gotten in a few good shots and he was hurting. Auburn recalled her chan and lee and a Hariyama appeared on the field. It was called by Amber. She had rejoined the group after the pretense of fighting fair was done. Slice glanced up and started to rise.
A poké ball rolled in to the middle of the field. It cracked open and a five foot Krookodile took form.
“KROOKODILE!” it cried deep and deadly.
“Why don’t you try him on?” Greg said stepping into view.
“What do you want nerd?” Scarlett snapped at him.
“Nerd? Kind of harsh, they don’t even know me.”
“You’re not involved in this.” Raven said.
“Actually I am. I happened to know who you are and everything you’ve done to him.”
At this point the girls started calling out their Pokémon. Patrick noticed the Fighters mixed in with them. Scarlett’s Throh was back, plus a Medicham, Violet called out a something that was too small to be seen with hers, Auburn called out a Hitmontop with hers and Jade had a Gallade with hers. Patrick noticed Raven called nothing, if Slice saw it he would kill it, she keep it safe in its ball.
“Oh damn this is going to take forever.”
“Force Palm” the Hariyama charged towards Slice but a Scrafty came flying in catching him in the side of the head with her Hi Jump Kick.
“Scrafty.” she called.
Seconds later a Psychic attack hit them all causing the fighters to buckle.
“It won’t take as long if we help.” Jess said from behind her Sigilyph, with Alex standing next her obviously it was her Scrafty.
“You are interfering with an official battle.” Scarlett said.
“Bullshit bitch we all know who you are.” Jess fired back stunning Scarlett with her response.
Suddenly there was a mutter from one of the Rainbow girls and they all turned to a huddle. Patrick heard the word Rangers and Park mentioned.
“I think they recognized you.” Patrick said as Jess, Alex and Greg joined him.
“You think they want to tangle with four rangers?” Alex asked.
“I hope so.” Jess put in. “I’m tired of them picking on my friend and it’s going to end now.”
The Rainbow huddle broke up. “Ok one on one.” Scarlett called.
“Who’s first?” Jess called before Scarlett could finish. “No one? Ok I’ll pick, you red bitch step up.” Jess said pointing at Scarlett. “No you can use both.” Jess continued. “I want a two on two battle.”
Sigilyph was already out, she pulled out Carracosta’s ball and released her into the arena.
They took their positions. “So are you going to fight fair or is this a street fight?” Jess asked with an evil glint in her eye.
“Fair.” Scarlett said.
“Yeah they said that last time, didn’t work.” Patrick said glancing down at Trapinch, he was missing. Patrick turned and saw Slice tending to him. “I guess saving him from that attack really meant something to Slice.” he said. Greg heard him and saw it as well.
“Alex judge this fight. Don’t worry it won’t be long.”
“You’re right it won’t be, will it Throh?” Scarlett said.
“You don’t realize it yet do you?” Jess questioned.
Scarlett just answered with a smile.
Suddenly the background noise started to grow in volume to a deafening level. Looking around Patrick saw what looked to be hundreds of people streaming in their direction. “We should have charged admission, could have made a fortune.” Jess just turned and smiled at the comment. Just then Greg’s xtransceiver rang. “Hello?”
“Are you fighting?” Lisa asked.
“What? How did you know?”
“Some guy just came in and told us all that four of the rangers from the park started a battle royale in the park. I believe he said it was going to be epic.”
“Yeah well it just kind of blew up. I have to go, it’s about to start.”
“Have fun.” She hung up.
“Medicham Hi Jump Kick.”
He jumped across the field aimed at Sigilyph. Right before he hit Carracosta stepped in front of him and he connected with her shell. Which she immediately dropped and spun around slapped him in the side of the head with her massive fin. Medicham staggered away, Carracosta ducked aside and Sigilyph released a Psychic attack that stuck the unsuspecting Throh. He dropped to his knee and didn’t see the follow up move from the Carracosta, without her giant heavy shell to lug around she was ten times more nimble and quick, striking the Throh hard sending him to the ground. Sigilyph was engaged with the Medicham delivering Air Cutters and Air Slash attacks. No matter what Scarlett called it would miss Sigilyph was hovering just out of reach. After every attack he would shoot up and hang there like a piñata with a frustrated child swinging away at it. With Medicham preoccupied with the Sigilyph he barely heard Scarlett shout at him.
“Turn around, Force Palm!”
He spun and slammed the charging Carracosta square in the face, it staggered back and fell over but with his back to Sigilyph he was defenseless. He was besieged with Sky Attack, he hit his knees and fell face first in the dirt.
“Match over. Win to Jess.”
“Protest.” Scarlett called.
Alex turned to her with a questioning look. “On what grounds?”
“I have another Pokémon. Switch to a one on one match.”
“That’s against the rules.” Alex stated.
“I have no objection to it.” Jess put in.
“Fine, call him.”
She called her Darmanitan while Jess recalled both of hers and send out her Volcarona. Immediately there were camera flashes from the crowd.
“What the hell?” Patrick asked.
“Volcarona is kind of rare.” Jess said.
“Oh yeah I’m so used to seeing it I forgot.” He said.
“It’s a fire type why are you using it?”
“Makes it more interesting, don’t you think?” she replied.
“Ready…Fight!” Alex called.
“Hammer Arm.” Scarlett called.
“Hurricane!” The Volcarona wings started flapping at a rapid pace stirring up massive vortex that grabbed the Darmanitan and spun him around. The Volcarona lifted off the ground and flew into the vortex as well. “Fly!” Jess called out to her. She slammed into the Darmanitan repeatedly, effortlessly gliding on the wind as he was uncontrollably spinning in the air. Finally the wind died and he hit the ground.
After several seconds.
“Match over, win to Jess.” She then turned to Scarlett and stared at her waiting for her to speak up. She just recalled her Pokémon and retreated to the back of her group.
“Next?” Jess called. “I can take you all.”
“That wouldn’t be any fun for us.” Alex said.
To Patrick’s surprise Jade stepped up, no hint of her shyness. She was looking straight at them all. “I’m next.” She said. She choose her Gallade first since he walked up with her.
“I got her.” Greg said before one of the others could.
“I could handle them you know.” Patrick told them.
“Relax and let your friends deal with them.” Jess said.
Greg had already got up and had his Krookodile ready to go. He realized that is opponent was a plant user, no backing down now besides he was confident in Krook’s ability to crush any enemy even one with a type advantage. Jade had her Gallade out and it was the first one up.
“Ready?” Alex called.
“Ready.” the both replied.
“Fight.”
“Earthquake.”
The ground rolled and buckled, but the Gallade rode it with ease.
“Drain Punch Gallade.”
The earthquake was coming to an end and Krook was unready for the strike. The energy was pulled from him, causing him to cringe. “Follow up with Low Sweep.” He kicked his leg out and spun catching both of Krook’s leg knocking him to the ground. Greg was shocked, never before did he feel so unprepared for this fight, he wasn’t getting any attacks off and was being thoroughly beaten.
“Krook DIG!” A brief respite from the onslaught.
“Sword Dance.”
Patrick moved up to Jess. “She has never been so confident before, she’s obviously been practicing or she’s been coached.”
“Greg use your special moves.” Jess called. “He’s got to break her stride. If he can throw her off he can take this match back.”
“Krook move three.” he burst from the ground and started darting back and forth over the field almost too fast to see, the crowd was astonished with his speed. “Strike!”
“TELEPORT!” He vanished right before the move connected and appeared behind him. “Close Combat!” He laid down a barrage of punches and jabs. Krook hit the ground.
“Get up!” His eyes opened and he rose in defiance of the Pokémon’s power. “OUTRAGE!”
Krook let out a deafening roar and glowed with a radiating power. He charged across the field and before Gallade could do anything he was waylaid by the furious and unending assault from the fierce Krookodile. He fell to the ground and lay unmoving. Jade just stood in shock of the power displayed.
“Win to Krookodile.” Alex called.
Jade called out her Lilligant.
“Ready?” They both gave a nod. “GO.”
“Leaf Storm.” Krook was slashed by the numerous leaves flying through the air.
“Dig.” Greg called.
“Sunny Day!”
“Shit, she was just waiting for that.” Patrick said.
Krook erupted under the Lilligant throwing her in the air.
“Solar beam!” she spun in the air and unleashed the high power move straight at Krook.
When the blinding light diminished Krook was laid out and Lilligant stood over him in victory.
“Win to Lilligant. Call you last one.”
An evil grin spread over Greg’s face. “Go Creepy Crawler.”
Patrick was surprised by what he saw next. Instead of one foot Venipede and eight foot monster emerged from the ball.
“SCOLIPEDE.”
“When did he evolve that?” Patrick asked.
“No idea, he never mentioned it.” Jess replied.
“Ready?” After confirmation. “Go.”
“Toxic.” A glob of sludge flew from Scolipede’s mouth and hit the Lilligant poisoning her badly.
“Mega Drain.”
Scolipede was struck but not badly hurt. Greg knew he just had to wait as the poison built in the Lillgant’s system till it collapsed, but he wanted revenge for Krook’s defeat.
“Venoshock.”
“Damn he must be mad.” Patrick commented.
Greg showed no outward sign of emotion, but they knew him well enough to judge his behavior. “Steamroller.” He curled into a ball and spun across the field mowing down Lilligant. “Bug Bite.”
“Giga Drain.” Jade managed to say but it was too late Lilligant collapsed from the combined effects of the poison and Scolipede’s attacks.
“Anymore Pokémon?”
Jade shook her head.
“Match to Greg.” Alex called.
“Who’s next?” Alex called. She was the next one to fight now and wanted to see who it was.
There was a discussion going on between Auburn and Amber presumably who was going to fight next. Finally Amber stepped forward and her Galvantula and Hariyama.
“This is a double battle.” Alex said. She called her Pignite and Scrafty, which was no surprise she always relied on Scrafty, too much in her friend’s opinion.
Jess stepped up to be the ref for the match. “Ok this is a double battle, no subs, no trade outs. Ready?”
“Ready.” They both replied.
“Fight.”
“Heat Crash Pignite on the Galvantula! Scrafty Hi Jump Kick on the other one!”
“Discharge on the Pignite, and Harley Close Combat.”
The Heat Crash hit with devastating force, the Galvantula stood no chance it was out. The Hariyama fared much better, it survived the strike taking little damage. He unleashed his Close Combat and it was like Scrafty was training him, blocking every punch with an open palm.
“Head Smash!” Being so close there was no chance to call for Harley to dodge or block.
Harley pushed himself up. “Heavy Slam.” Amber called.
“Oh we know this move well.” Alex commented. “Focus Punch.” As Harley fell towards her she prepared her strike, at the last second she leapt up into Harley driving the Focus Punch home. He flew back and landed at Amber’s feet.
“Get up.”
“Hari…” he gasp and then fainted.
“Match to Alex.” Jess called.
“Who is the next victim?” Alex asked.
Auburn stepped up followed by her Bouffalant and an odd one that spun on his head, a Hitmontop.
“So who is taking her out?” Jess asked with a smile. Patrick wanted to wait for Raven so he just gestured to them, with a be my guest movement.
Alex stepped up before Jess could and called out her Scrafty. “One on one or double?”
“Single.” Auburn relied. Patrick wondered if she had gotten over her tendency to call several moves at once, if she hadn’t this would be a very short battle, she hadn’t said much earlier when he Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan fought.
“I’ll ref this one.” Scarlett said and made her way to the spot that Jess was currently standing in.
Patrick cased an interesting glance in her direction. “I wonder what she is up too?” he muttered.
“I’m going to be watching you very closely.” Jess said as she backed up but didn’t leave.
It turns out Jess’s scrutiny was unfounded, Scarlett was just playing mind games.
“Ready?” they both nodded confirmation. “Fight!”
“Giga Impact!” Auburn shouted, and to Patrick surprise she stopped there.
Scrafty was totally unprepared for such a rapid attack and suffered the full force of the attack She hit her back as she was thrown with an enormous force. She then struggled to rise; she had never before encountered an opponent she couldn’t best, this was no different. He just started out on top, she simply had to bring him down. “Focus Punch.” She heard call from Alex.
“Retreat Bouffalant. Topper go! Counter.” She called as he jumped into the field.
He endured the Focus Punch, which was a great surprise to Alex. Few if any could take that and survive.
Topper retaliated with his counter which brought Scrafty to her knees. He followed up with a Rolling Kick and Scrafty fell in defeat.
“Oh my god.” Jess said.
“Damn.” Patrick heard Greg say in surprise.
“Win to Auburn.” Scarlett called in triumph.
“Klinklang.” Alex called tossing out his ball.
He popped from the ball and floated to his starting position. The Rainbow Gang erupted in giggles. “That thing?” he heard one mutter.
“Ready?”
“Yes.” they both replied.
“Fight.”
Not to give the Hitmontop any chance to get the upper hand she immediately called an attack. “Zap Cannon!” he instantly whirled into action and released a beam of light bright enough to make the sun look like a glow stick. When the beam dissipated Hitmontop was a smoking pile on the ground.
“He was weak anyway.” Auburn replied with casual disregard. Which confirmed Patrick earlier suspicions that they weren’t using their own Pokémon. Which was quite obvious, where and when would they have the time to get them and then get them so high powered. He had seen how much they cared for their own, and she cared nothing for the Hitmontop.
She called back out her Bouffalant and they were about to start again. Patrick saw it and wondered if anyone else did. The Klinklang was gathering energy ever so discreetly, “I wonder when he started that?” Patrick muttered, if he had been doing it long enough he could unleash a devastating attack right away and possibly win. It seems Alex knew exactly what was going on. As soon as Scarlett called fight Alex called Hyper Beam. It took down the Bouffalant and the match was half over.
“Bouffalant Mega Horn.” He charged at Klinklang who merely dodged it.
“Discharge.” It brought the Bouffalant to the ground.
Scarlett grudgingly called the match to Alex.
Violet stepped up with her Gengar and one of the weirdest Pokémon yet. He was runty in height only a little over a foot, he had a purple body which wasn’t a surprise, he was Violets. He had three claws on each hand and ears that stuck up and pointy plus an odd red jewel in his chest, and the weirdest part, his eyes, two crystals
“What the hell is that?” Greg said. Patrick pulled his dex and scanned him.
“Sableye the Darkness Pokémon. It hides in dark caves and eats gems that transform its eyes into gems themselves. Studies have not determined how this is achieved.”
Patrick had had enough of this. They were losing every round, they had a win here and there but overall it was a total loss. “Enough, this is embarrassing. You are just going to lose, so I suggest you just leave now.”
“He’s afraid of little Sable here.” Violet smirked to her friends.
He just rolled his eyes. “Your little thing is disturbing to look at and little else. I am afraid of what disease he will transmit to my Pokémon if he touches them. Whatever did that to him can’t be normal.” Patrick said greeted with laughter from the large crowd.
“That’s it! I want to fight YOU!” she shouted as she pointed at Patrick.
“Bring it on.”
Slice stepped up to take his place. “Slice no.”
“Sharp?” he said with a dangerous tone.
“It’s Shadows turn.”
“Sharp.” He said with a nod and moved. Patrick was quite surprised by this, he had never not argued about fighting before. Maybe he remembers what they did to Shadow as well as him in their first meeting. Patrick thought.
He called out Shadow.
“Zoroark.” He said with a swing of his claws, Patrick saw a quick glance he cast at Slice and a slight approving nod returned. They’ve been talking, he deduced.
“Ready?” Jess called. Gengar stepped up.
“Ready.” They replied.
“Fight.”
“Shadow Night Slash.”
He ignored him, he was concentrating.
“Gengar Hypnosis.”
Shadow dodged it, and his eyes snapped open, they were glowing a light blue color. His body was then surrounded by a dark red force. He rose his arms and the force from his arms grew bigger till he slammed them down. The growing force from his arms grew larger then without warning he unleashed it at Gengar.
“Dodge it!” Violet screamed but to no avail it stuck him full body and he hit the ground.
Jess waited several minutes mainly out of shock then realized what happened. “Win to Shadow.”
“Call the next victim. Your little creepy eyes.”
“Go Sable.” He stepped up with the scariest smile on his creepy face. With those eyes it was so unnerving.
“Ready?”
“Been there.” Patrick called first.
“Yes.” Violet replied.
“Fight.”
Sable leapt forward and slammed him with his the side of his hand in a karate chop fashion causing Shadow to buckle and stagger back slightly. “Oh shit, if one hit does that how powerful is he? And what exactly was that move?”
He leapt again at Shadow using Fury Swipes.
“Damn he’s fast. Night Slash.”
Shadow having a command leapt in to action showing his own speed with was comparable to Sable if not faster.
He dashed across Sable path and struck him with the Night Slash. He was stunned slightly but recovered and started leaping around again.
“Brick Break.” Violet called.
“That’s why it hurt him, it’s a fighting move.” Patrick said coming to the realization. “If he knows fighting moves this could be very bad. Show him what a real Fury Swipes is.” He called to Shadow.
He dodged to break and planted an uncalled roundhouse kick to Sable as he flew past with his missed move. He then turned and started raking him with his claws, unrelenting and quick. When he finally finished, it had lasted a considerable amount of time, he stepped back from his victim.
“Get up Sable.” Violet cried, literally tears and sobbing.
“He shifted slightly and then lay still.”
“Win to Patrick.” Jess called.
“I thought he was super tough.” Scarlett shouted at her.
“He said he was.” she cried.
Then everyone turned and looked at Raven, she was the last one left and to Patrick she looked totally unconcerned.
“Call your Gothorita or whatever it is now so you can lose, storm away, and come back later, to lose again.” Patrick said in a totally dismissive manner. She was the cause of their constant annoyance and he was over dealing with them.
He could see he really got her with that. Now she looked really pissed, other than mildly annoyed.
First she called out her Gothitelle and a Zebstrika. “Double battle” she said.
Patrick pondered on this for a moment deciding how to play this one out. He had planned to use Shadow but he was not in top condition, and using anything on him would just be seen as cheating in the eyes of the Rainbow Gang, and he didn’t need to fuel their fire of hate. Slice wasn’t in any better condition.
“What’s the hold up?” He heard shouted from Scarlett.
“Just deciding how to defeat her.” he replied unabashed.
He had one down but how to beat the other one? Then it hit him Golem, sure he was part Ghost type but Psychic was weak to Ghost.
“Golem, Hippowdon. And just so you know, this is the last time we do this. Next time, and I do mean next time you challenge me you will have to deal with these.” he said swiping aside the side of his coat to reveal the bandolier covered in the remainder of his thirty three poké balls. “I will call them all and let them have at it.” He said with a tone that left none of them thinking he wasn’t being sincere. “What was that?” He replied when he heard Raven mutter something.
“I said we could use ours to fight them.”
“Not a chance, because I never stop catching. And judging by what I’ve heard you say you borrow other peoples. Or send brothers to fight for you.” He eyes darted to Scarlett at that comment. “Tell him if I see him again the same thing applies as well. Now let’s get this fight underway.”
“Ready?” Jess called.
They both nodded.
“Fight!”
Golem Shadow Punch Gothitelle!” Before he could call an attack for Hippowdon it was already charging down the field at Zebstrika then slamming into him before he could react. “What the hell?” He wasn’t even sure what move it used, it had to be something along the lines of head butt or takedown, they were the most logical but he wasn’t even sure it was a move or just Hippowdon running amuck.
Neither of them stood a chance. Golem was way overpowered and crushed her Gothitelle quickly, and Zebstrika never recovered from that first hit.
“Next?” he called wondering if she had borrowed any good ones.
She tossed out two more. It was an odd looking Pokémon, one was a Lucario, he was normal as far as Pokémon go. But this other one…It was a large, black Pokémon that resembles a mud statue with two very short legs. It has a wide, spherical head and around its head were many large pink eyes. Its’ arms were just as weird, they were spherical arms with a rounded protrusion unattached to the body but floating close by. It stood about five feet tall, but it wasn’t standing, it was floating.
“What is that?” He flipped open the dex.
“Claydol the Clay Doll---”
“Shut up, just give me the type.” He said scanning the info. “Ground Psychic…will they never learn? So who’s are you using now?” he verbally poked.
“Shut up!” she shouted back.
He recalled Hippowdon and sent in Sigilyph.
“Ready?”
They nodded.
“Fight!”
“Golem Shadow Punch the Claydol. Sigilyph Psychic on Lucario.”
Lucario was already charging right at Sigilyph dodging the attack and striking him leaving him swaying back and forth in the air.
“Extreme Speed.”
“Thank you” he said snapping the dex shut. “Psychic again. Golem keep it up.” He saw Golem was taking hits, he assume they were psychic attacks, he had dealt with more he could handle this. He had to concentrate on the Lucario; he seemed to be the bigger threat.
He was darting around the field dodging every attack he called. “Sigilyph cease you’re not hitting anything.” HE glanced at Golem delivering a shadow punch that put the Claydol in the ground. HE saw the Lucario stop as Raven called Heal Pulse.
“Now Psychic!” it was the perfect target he wasn’t moving and he was slammed with the move, but he got the Heal Pulse off and Claydol was rising up, and again trading blows with Golem.
Then he had a stroke of genius, “Sigilpyh Gravity.”
Lucario was slowed to a crawl. “Golem Heavy Slam” Not only was he heavy he was now five times a heavy. He came down and created a crater were Lucario was. Unfortunately when he got up he was hit by Claydol’s Psychic and hit the ground. He recalled Golem and sent in Slice to finish it off.
“Foul! He can’t call him!”
“Why not?” Patrick asked before Jess had a chance.
“You have to call that big black one again.” she was of course talking about his Hippowdon.
“Wrong I’ve only used three I still had one more trade in.”
“He’s right.” Jess confirmed.
Raven looked to the crowd for support but saw they all showed he was right. “Fine!” she snapped crossing her arms.
“Slice you up for a little school?”
His eyes flashed, and he did a few test slashes.
“Ready?”
They nodded although Raven was a little reluctant.
“Fight.”
“Slice…go.” he finished unnecessarily Slice was already gone, he was gone at fight.
Slice was slowed by Gravity as it was still in effect. They were both unaware that the ground moves Claydol knew would decimate Slice. He just laid into the Claydol lefts and rights.
Raven totally unprepared she fell back on the last thing she was told about Claydol, ‘if you get into trouble use Explosion, if you can’t win you might as well cause them as much pain as possible.’
“Claydol Explosion.” Before Patrick could call for Slice to run Claydol glowed bright white and exploded. Slice was thrown back sailing passed Patrick and the crowd gathered behind him.
“Win to Patrick.” Jess said without any need to.
The Rainbow Gang recalled theirs and ran off literally ran off.
Patrick ran to Slice picked him up and carried him to the center. Greg and the girls followed.
He walked in. Lisa was manning the front desk.
“Welcome, oh it’s you.” she said in a joking manner then actually registered what she saw. “Oh I’m sorry! Audino cart!”
“Audino.” she sang coming from the back pushing a cart.
The Audino wheeled Slice to the back. “If you will all place yours on trays I will take them as well.” They all took a tray and filled them with theirs then took a seat in the waiting room.
After several minutes. “This is not the end of this, in fact I can say for a fact it will never be over.”
After what you told them I think they might stay away.
He was shaking his head. “I will carry through with it, but they will try again, I cheat in their eyes”
“You did not!”
“The rules and common sense don’t apply in this scenario. I called Slice, I can’t do that mainly because they hate Slice. In their eyes I broke the rules. And Jess if I were you I be on the look out as well.”
“Why me?” Jess asked.
“You reffed the match and agreed with me, so they hate you now too, and might try something.”
“I’ll carry my bad asses with me.”
“And by the way YOU did cheat.” He said with a smile glancing at Alex.
“Did I? Oops!” They all burst out laughing.
“I’m surprised no one else saw it especially one of the Rainbows, they are always looking for cheating at least from me. I’m not even sure what made me see it I guess if I hadn’t been watching you Klinklang so close I wouldn’t have seen it.”
“That was the point; it’s what he was trained to do in multi-battles. You think you and Greg are the only ones to come up with battle plans?”
“Oh we didn’t show you our new ones.” Jess spoke up. “While you and Greg were at the desert resort Alex and I went out together. We would have asked Brittney but she is visiting family in the Kanto region.” Jess called her’s first. It was a Tranquill and a Litwick.
“Wow nice catches Jess.” Patrick said.
Alex called out a Cottonee and a rock.
“You caught a rock?”
“No. Dwebble say hi.” The Dwebble popped his head and pincers out. “I’m going to call the Cottonee Puff. But I haven’t thought of a good one for Dwebble here.”
“Same here, not going to name them till I think of something awesome.” Jess put in.
“Aw isn’t that cute!” Rachael said coming up behind them and seeing the Dwebble.
“What’s the status on Slice?” He asked watching her face. He was not reassured.
“Well he took a lot of damage, he has a fractured arm and broken leg several of his body blades are bent and nicked.”
“He’s not going to be happy about that” Greg put in trying to lighten the mood. They all gave a small chuckle.
“He should make a full recovery, in time. All the others are almost done, none of them were severely hurt.” At which point the chime went off telling them they were done.
“Well I’m going to head home, I appreciate the help today thanks.” Patrick said.
“No need to thank us I loved it.” Jess said with a smile.
“It was fun.” Alex put in.
“See you later.” They grabbed their Pokémon and headed out.
“You want to see if the girls want to go out tonight?” Greg asked.
“After that fight I’m just too drained, maybe tomorrow.”
“Alright, see you later.” Greg grabbed his Pokémon and headed out as well.
A few hours later Rachael came home carrying dinner. “You didn’t want to go out with Lisa and Greg?” she asked a little surprised.
“No not tonight. Just want to relax and lose the tension.”
After dinner they were sitting on the couch watching TV. “So is the tension gone yet?” she asked.
“Not quite, why?” he looked at her questioningly.
“I know a great way to relieve it.” she said with emphasis grabbing his hand and pulling him to the bedroom.
Thanks for reading hope you enjoyed it, reviews are always welcome.I have another part I’m planning on writing but as of the time I post this one it isn’t yet started, it is probably going to be as long as the fourth part was. I have a few details to work out before I start it. Any suggestions will be considered, and just so you know it’s going to be in Kanto.
