"Heh, heh, heh..." Came a snicker from a man who walked up behind Thane. "Oh boy! She turned you down, huh? Man... I haven't seen anyone strike out that badly in, well... Nope, I can't say that I've ever seen a lass so desperate to get away from someone that they'd use magic to bloody up and teleport to get away! Hey, I guess that means even you ancient fucks sometimes have to deal with all our mortal problems too, eh? Ahhh-haaahahaha!!! Brilliant! That was just bloody brilliant!" Kano yelled, cackling to himself as he walked him away. "Come on, Thane... stick with me. I'll teach you how to talk to women, don't you worry." He reassured as the nine and a half foot dragon-taur sulked and came lumbering after him.
- Black Dragon HQ -
When Thane stepped through the portal to return to Earthrealm, it was not to the previous hideaway they had been at before. It was still a location underground, but the large metal installation was clearly not built by hasty bandit design. It was an interconnecting series of military hangers, complete with a full factory setup in the back. However despite the professional design, all of the walls and surface areas seemed dirty and damaged. Also Thane didn't miss what was obviously mining equipment beside large mounds of rubble, indicating this facility was a some point in history destroyed or barrier before the Black Dragon excavated it.
"Ah, it's good to be home." Kano shouted. "Nothing like HQ to help put a bounce in your step, eh? Well... That and the insanely large payout that we're sure to receive from Kotal once things are all settled." He cheered. However Thane was not in the mood as he trudged along. "Come on, I'll show you to the command center." Kano told Thane while pointing to an armored bunker that was elevated atop a stairwell.
Once inside, Thane saw a few familiar faces and one he did not recognize. There was a scrawny little lab tech clicking away on something in front of a series of colored boxes. Meanwhile, laying back upon a couch was a scantily clad blonde woman who Thane thought looked quite delicious. However she had the scent of Kano all over her.
However, there was one very noticable individual who had not been present at their previous hideout. "Boss, it's good to see you." Said a man from behind a face plate of metal.
"Kabal... It seems you've done well holding down the fort in my absence. And I am happy to report that my recent excursions into Outworld have been a success. We landed a few covert hits against Special Forces, we just assisted with an Outworld war effort, and most notably please allow me to introduce you to Thane... he is the black dragon." At this the dragon-taur stepped forward and nodded, but was feeling less than social at the moment. And when Kano gave that descriptor, even from behind his mask Kabal seemed surprised, but Kano subtly shook his head for Kabal to keep his mouth shut about other secrets.
"Well, happy to have you. And don't mind my metal face or my respirator. This is what happens when you join the Black Dragon Faction and lose in a fight against our enemies. The faction will pick you up, and piece you back together again." Kabal remarked.
"Heh, yeah. As long as there is enough of you TO piece back together. You were lucky you sod'er." Kano bantered. "Anyways, on to business. How are things?"
Looking back to his boss, Kabal answered, "Well I had my doubts about that skank when she was first brought here," he said as the woman on the couch stuck out her tongue at him, "...but her info checked out. The Special Forces do indeed have secret cybernetics base, and all her access codes and security intel still seems valid. You just say the word and I'll -"
"Ah, ah, now hold on." Kano told him. "I don't want you headed in there and butchering the place. Then those SF dogs might get wise to our little turncoat here." He said while gesturing to the woman. "I think I'll handle this one personally. Best take care of things real quiet like."
- Back in Outworld -
"Haha! Hiding or running like rats they are!" Ferra snickered.
"Yes but many are still around... and close." Reptile answered, while stalking around a supply wagon full of food and then spitting a large ball of acid through a gap in the vegetables. Immediately a hidden Shokan warrior armed with daggers leapt out screaming before his heart and his head had a hole blown through them by Erron Black.
"Kotal Kahn... The main force of Shokan warriors have gathered far to the south. They seem to be rallying under a new leader, Sheeva. But it appears that she was also wounded in the fight and she is leading them away." The wastelander explained while tipping up his hat with his pistol.
"What are the chances of them returning for another cowardly attack?" The large Oshtekk man asked, flexing his arms from beneath his green warpaint.
"None, my Kahn." Black answered. "They are headed to a Shokan stronghold off in that direction and it wouldn't be strategic to do so if they still planned to fight. No, I'd say it's more likely that with Goro slain, their new leader is just trying to keep her people alive now so to avoid the same fate as the Tarkatans. You have won Kotal, and Outworld no longer holds any organized opposition to your reign." To this Kotal pursed his lips and nodded with victory.
However just when their nerves had settled, a Shokan warrior hiding beneath the dead body of another sprang upward to attack. "Reptile told you there were still others in hiding!" The Zaterran screamed as he, Erron, and Ferra scrambled to their Kahn's defense. But they were too late as the Shokan was very close and lunged forward with a sword direct at the face of the unprepared Oshtekk.
However that was when a yellow swirl zoomed through the air. A stiletto heel kicked the Shokan in the throat, sending him skittering to the ground. Almost immediately, a deeply tanned woman pounced from in the air, and stabbed the four armed warrior repeatedly in the chest. "Great Kahn, I surrender!" She then immediately screamed before kneeling upon the ground.
"Tanya!" Kotal glared, not having forgotten her role in supporting Mileena and her coup.
Immediately she looked up and pleaded, "Please Kotal, I am here to turn myself in!" However she quickly saw the Kahn's generals rushing in towards her. Trying to think quickly she picked up her daggers and stabbed the Shokan several more times in the chest. "I am not in opposition to you!" When that didn't work she literally threw her weapons away to the dirt and bowed with her face pressed down into the sand. "Kotal, I surrender and bring yo-ACWK!" But all the same her throat was grabbed by Torr, and she was left kicking and twisting upon the ground as he began to strangle her under Ferra's grinning order.
The look of surprise and disappointment could not have been greater on Ferra's face when her Kahn stepped forward and waved for them to move aside.
After quickly obeying, Kotal stepped in and placed the front end of his saw blade directly against Tanya's sternum. "You bring me what, you traitorous little mouse?"
Choking both from the bruises on her throat and now from the pressure on her ribs, she winced and uttered, "I bring you the life of Rain, in exchange for my own."
Reptile did not hesitate to speak up furiously. "She has no loyalties! She bretrays all! Let us kill her!" But he fell silent as Kotal just lifted up a hand for him to stop.
Leaning back off from Tanya with his blade, Kotal asked, "Explain yourself, for it will determine whether or not you live." He ordered, as Torr picked her up to a kneeling position while Ferra got down to bind the Edenian's wrists behind her back.
Not putting up any resistance, Tanya answered, "To make it clear, I helped with the coup because I followed Mileena... and not because I was in opposition to you as Kahn directly."
"They were lovers, heh heh." Reptile smirked. "She smells like-"
"You shut you damn mouth!" Tanya screamed bitterly, revealing an ounce of heartbroken resentment within her.
Turning back over his shoulder Kotal announced, "Reptile, you will remain silent, else I will no longer have use for you keeping that tongue of yours within your head." To this the Zaterran fidgeted nervously before just squatting down in place. "Now tell me Tanya, what is it that you are asking for."
Looking up, more in defeat than with reverence, she explained, "I ask for my life and nothing more. You are Kahn now and your power is great. I will not live my life in hiding, in fear of your vengeance. Better to be your prisoner in a dungeon but alive, than to fear for my head from the shadow around every corner."
"Hmm. You would have done well serving under me Tanya, had you not foolishly sided with Mileena to begin with." Kotal told her. "And what of Rain?" He then asked her.
"What of him?" She replied. "He had proved to be a powerful ally, and a descent companion. But I owe no allegiance and hold no ties to him. I willing offer you the location to where he camps. And I ask for a soldier's mercy."
Kotal remained hesitant for a moment. "We shall see, Tanya." But then he motioned towards Erron Black.
Quickly the wastelander pulled out a notebook. "You talk, I'll write."
Less than an hour later a pillar was erected with a single bound captive, beaten and tied to the stake. As a fire was started and screams began to cry out, no one came to help. No heros arrived to save the day. No allies attempted a rescue. And no Elder Gods spoke out to decree their will. All eyes stood and watched as the demigod and protector of Edenia, son of Argus, and brother to Taven and Daegon, was consumed by the flames.
"You have done well, Tanya." Kotal said aloud to the bound prisoner but without taking his eyes off the fire. "You spoke true, even sacrificing your homeland's protector. You shall have the mercy you requested." He decreed. "Take her to the dungeons." And with that order, Reptile walked Tanya away... to not be seen or heard from again.
- Some Time Later -
Back in Earthrealm, snow whipped across the mountain peaks as a blizzard threatened to encase the trespassers in ice. However the unique training of the Lin Kuei had prepared the warriors for harsh frozen conditions while they wrestled chains upon a great beast who mistakenly believed the violent climate would keep it safe. It struggled and snarled as human hands reached down and touched upon it's eggs. But for all it's majesty, numbers and strategic preparation had won out over power as Kuai Liang gathered the frost dragon's eggs. Handling them with care he vanished into the snow, as did his warriors leaving the frost dragon to howl at the mountainside in rage.
- Elsewhere in Earthrealm -
Technicians sat at their posts all reviewing the data which was compiled on the computers before them. "All readings are in the green." Called one. "New cybernetic hardware and attachments are showing optimal compatibility." Another said. "It looks like we did it." Said the team lead and their was some mild smiling and high-fiveing.
That was when the doors to the lab opened and a superior officer stepped inside. "Glad to see you all in cheerful moods. That must mean you are ready to give me a status report." She said.
One of the techs quickly stood up. "We've done it. All weapons and cybernetic integration software have been added. The systems are functioning and the combined technology is adapting. With the conjoined fighting potential of Sektor, Cyrax, and Cyber Smoke fused into one robot we finally have an effective means of resisting the special combatants of Outworld and all of their superpowers."
"Not to mention we've downloaded the fighting analysis of all former Lin Keui warriors from before the previous Cyber Initiative." Another technician reported. "It's just the first of many to come. But he will be the herald of the Special Forces robot army. We are calling him, Triborg." She said as any excited nerd would after working on this project for so long.
Standing up straight and trying to hold back a smile, the superior officer said, "Well... Then he better be polite." She commented with a smirk.
The lab techs looked around a bit confused but then the team lead said, "Well we haven't activated him yet of course. He still needs his personality subroutines. We're still working on the FRF recognition software. And the cognitive inhibitor is sitting over there ready to be installed."
Without delay, one of the lab nerds feeling over enthusiastic explained, "That will make sure that Triborg will be able to think for himself under the ruling of following orders, but without fully being able to think for himself and question his directives. Also FRF stands for Friend or Foe and-"
"The commanding officer knowns what the acronym means." The team lead scolded.
Looking over to the device on the table, the officer said, "That seems pretty important. Why hasn't that been installed yet?"
Now the techs looked around awkwardly. "Oh well as long as he isn't activated, then there isn't any danger. Installing the command prompts is the easy part. We can download the coding either by keyboard, by chip, or even IR interface. But the challenge was getting the hardware to fuse so he could change between combat and weapon styles upon command."
That was when the officer's interest noticably picked up. "IR interface? Like Infrared? Why would you need that?" She asked while stepping over to a small tripod like machine with a receiving sensor mounted on the top of it.
"Oh that's because the room is sealed. Triborg's entire construction was built remotely on the other side of that blast window. We control the mechanical arms to install it's components and-"
"But if it isn't activated then why is it moving?" The officer asked. Immediately all of the lab techs laughed nervously. But then they spun around and stared at the slumped robot through the window of the containment room.
Quickly moving her face in front of the IR scanner, a red light came out of the woman's eyeball and aimed directly at the sensor."Heh, heh... I've got a bloody good set of command prompts to install for you." Kano thought silently to himself from behind his holographic disguise and voice alteration technology.
Half the techs in the room jumped and looked as if they would shit themselves when Triborg's finger twitched and then his head raised up. Immediately they all dove for their computers and began yelling at one another to try and shut the robot down.
"This doesn't make sense! He was specifically designed so that he can't activate without receiving his initial command prompts first! Unless he somehow received data from somewhere, this can't be hap-" But they all jumped when Triborg's armor turned red and Sektor launched a missile against the blast wall.
Instantly alarms rang out all over the base. After seeing that the missile had no effect, Triborg looked around and observed his surroundings. After seeing a ventilation shaft, his armor changed from red to black as he adopted Cyber-Smoke's form and teleported away into a mist.
The lab techs screamed as Triborg appeared into the room directly with them. None of them were soldiers and none of them were armed. They froze, panting, and not knowing what to do. But that was when the officer tapped her arm and the technicians gasped seeing Kano from the Black Dragon standing in the room with them. "Hault." He laughed, making sure Triborg had a clear view of his faction emblem.
Triborg scanned about the room. "Self identity recognized. Designation, Triborg. Memory components recognized, Smoke... Sektor... Cyrax. Enemies confirmed: The Lin Keui. All supporting factions: U.S. Special Forces, White Lotus. Memory units expanded. Outworld enemies detected. Netherrealm enemies detected. Reevaluating.... Endangerment recognized. All organic life forms must be eliminated. Error, Directive. Black Dragon Faction set to ally. Command authority not involuntarily enforced. Symbiotic alliance recognized."
Panic caused the hearts of all the lab technicians to flutter as they couldn't believe what they were listening to. They were all too frozen with fear to move, to even think. But their eyes went wide as Triborg lifted an arm and rained automatic weapons fire down upon them all.
Now standing alone in the room with Triborg, Kano just waited and watched the robot curiously.
"Previous restrictive command prompts not recognized. Previous mission, develop the Cyber Lin Keui and mass produce cybernetic army until enemy combatants are overwhelmed."
"So, that's the plan then?" Kano asked. "Going to put the old band back together?" He asked, attempting to lead Triborg on.
However after a delay, Triborg replied, "Negative. Actions repeatedly performed by Sub-Zero have caused negative affiliation with the previous Cyber Initiative. Triborg exists as a new entity and as such a new affiliation will be required. From this moment on, the new Cyber Initiative will be known as... The Takunin."
"Well... Far be it from me to stand in your way." Kano replied as he physically stepped aside from the doorway. "But before you go, let me offer you some advice. After you head out that door and have your fun mowing down Special Forces and blasting your way out of here.... Head back to Sektor's old facility. The same one that SubZero buried where the previous Cyber Initiative was constructed at. I think you might like what you find there." Kano told him with a smirk.
"Acknowledged." And with that, Triborg stepped on, much to the gunfire and screams of those down the hall. Meanwhile, returning to his female officer disguise, Kano slipped out the other way down the hall.
- Back at the Black Dragon HQ -
As soon as Kano teleported in through a portal, he stepped in screaming. "Arm bands! Everyone! I want to see every single one of you with your bleedin' arm bands on! TREMOR?! I don't care if you all are taking a shit, a shower, or a fuck! You do it with your arm band on! TREMOR, where the fuck are ya?!" He shouted while marching through the main hanger.
After stomping up the stairwell he met with his enforcer who was waiting just outside the command bunker. "What's wrong?" The soil enriched soldier asked.
"Good news, but dangerous news. You remember those murder robot things that went crazy and who ol' Subzero had an almost all out war with?" Kano quickly rushed, half distracted by red lights blaring in his cabin behind Tremor.
"Well, yeah. All turned to scrap. What about them." Tremor nodded along.
"Well the final reincarnation of each one of them, fused together into some sort of super robot is coming here." Kano informed him.
"What?! When?!" Tremor shouted.
"Eeehh, that's the thing. I don't know. It might be today, it might be tomorrow. It could be in the next five fucking minutes! But what I do know is that it's on it's own mission to wipe out all organic life in the universe, except the Black Dragon Faction. So will you please go down there amongst our troops and make damn well sure that when this new Triborg fellow shows up that nobody fucking shoots it!"
"Right." Tremor nodded and urgently marched down stairs.
"And make sure everyone is wearing their armbands for the blighter to be able to see! Especially those outside!!!" Once Kano was done, he almost kicked the reinforced door off it's hinges before yelling into his cabin, "Why in the bloody fuck does it look like nuclear Christmas in here?!" He shouted and he was almost certain he could see his assistant's soul escape out of his mouth before dropping back in for a moment.
"It's an alarm system that was built into the base back when it was first constructed. We've had a breach and someone has gotten into the-"
Grabbing the skinny man by the shirt and lifting him straight out of his chair, Kano growled, "What do you mean we've had a breach?! We are the Black Dragon! We are the ones who cause breaches, not the one's who get breached! Now explain!"
"A-, a-, it's... It's a, two g-guys!" He stammered but Kano realized this wasn't helping and put him down. Knowing that it at least wasn't a Special Forces invasion did make him feel somewhat better.
"It's two men who slipped by our main force downstairs. They killed a few of our soldiers but no one we can't replace in a few days." Kabal said, suddenly appearing in the doorway.
"What two guys? And where are they now?"
While the assistant sat down and returned to trying to figure out how to turn the alarm off, Kabal answered, "It was Kenshi and that kid of his Takeda. They made it downstairs into the, uh..." He hesitated, looking at the woman laying on the couch. "They made it into the red room downstairs. But now they're gone. I saw it just before they disappeared. They vanished." He explained.
Kano thought hard as he brought his hand up to his chin. Looking around before speaking, he asked, "Has Thane heard about any of this?"
Kabal shook his head. "Not a chance. He's still downstairs in his room enjoying that little setup you made for him."
With a sigh of relief Kano said, "Good. And make sure it stays that way. Can't have those two finding out about one another." Then stepping passed Kabal, Kano announced, "I'll be back in a bit. I'm going down to have a little chat with our red guest about those trespassers. And try not to let the whole operation fall apart while I'm gone."
