Disclaimer: I own Mallory/Eversweet.
She is to a point…ME! Brady owns himself or at least rights to the name.(I made
his character up completely as I don’t really know him all that well) Later
vampires will be Entirely fictional save for their names that will belong to my
sire’s sire and so on and so outwards into the game. Such things as they are
(streets, vampire names, pubs, etc) happen to be drawn from the online game:
Vampires! The Dark Alleyway. If you want to join let me know! flamekaat@flamekaat.com
Warnings: Vampire activities for now
and violence. Sex in later chapters.
That alleyway had always been rumored
to be unlucky. Cursed was what some people called it. Even when she had lived
over in the neighborhood on the other side of it, she had heard about it. Now
she had to run through it.
The gang members didn’t
seem to know the alleyway was cursed. They only cared about raping and killing
her to make their chapter’s reputation grow. Cruelty and dishonor were their
way and they wanted everyone to know it. What they didn’t know, and nether did
Mallory, was that crueler things existed in this world then ordinary human
beings.
Mallory felt herself being
yanked forcibly out of the way and her body impacted a wall. She slid down into
unconsciousness with a soft sigh of relief. It would be better not to know what
was coming, considering that it could only get worse not better. She woke up
feeling strange and fuzzy. She watched as two of the gang members attacked the
person who had body slammed her into a wall. He was elegantly dressed and
seemingly unruffled. The man just slammed the one into a wall with far more
force then she had been tossed. Crack! The gang member’s head went at a
funny angle when he slumped down to the cracked pavement amid the other filth
and trash. He was dead for sure. Looking at the neck even Mallory knew that.
The other gang member the
man brought up to his face and whispered something in his ear. Then he grinned
widely, exposing wicked looking teeth. The word accursed definitely suited this
alleyway, especially since it seemed to be the haunt of a real Vampire!
Something in Mallory’s shivering heart told her she didn’t need to be afraid.
Logic would indicate otherwise. She tried to stand but realized to late that
something in her was seriously damaged by the impact with the wall. The world
spun and she impacted with the wall before going down again into the waiting
darkness.
“Come on human you should
wake up for this. It’s special.”
Human. Only the vampire
would call her that. Damn it! The Vampire! She woke up fully in between one
second and the next and tried to land a clean blow. Her disorienting injuries
made the attempt a complete failure. All her effort gained Mallory was a laugh
of pure bubbling hilarity that definitely had to be a mind trick. It was too
beautiful to be real.
She looked into his eyes
and the pain of her aching self faded away.
“No wonder even the
pathetic human predators wanted you. You are quite stunning to behold. The
blood in you smells intoxicating too. I am surprised you haven’t been tasted
before this.”
The Vampire tipped her
head to one side and sighed when he caught sight of her neck.
“Unsullied and pure. How
wonderful… for me!”
Then the bite came. It
felt horrible. As he sucked her blood out it felt as if her whole life, not
just her life energy but everything she was, everything she had ever done up to
this point and everything she had a possibility to be or do in the future, was
draining down his throat along with it. Mallory screamed weakly before his free
hand clamped down over her mouth.
“Now be a good girl and
stay quiet unless you want to be a wraith or ghoul or something equally
pathetic.”
He was going to make her
into one of them! NO!
“It’s that or a pretty
corpse sweet veins. Choose. Death or Unlife are the only options left to you
now. You taste to good to leave a single drop behind and that means the unlife
or I sever your pretty head from your pretty neck after I am done if that is
what you REALLY want.”
Live (sort of) or die for
sure. Not really any good options.
“No one can really
tell. Most humans are imperceptive. Just about as intuitive as rocks. You will
find that your former peers don’t even notice you are there unless you force it
on them. If you force your presence then they will see you but since they don’t
believe then they don’t believe and they see a simple unmemorable person whose
very gender they would be hard pressed to place even after a few moments.”
While he was saying all
this he was still holding her too him and sucking with a great deal of force on
the wound in her neck his teeth had created. It occurred to her that he had
found why she was afraid of this. To be an outcast even more then ever, just
when she had started making herself one with the rest of humanity. To be
something else, and lose herself. She didn’t want to be someone else. She was
finally just starting to be happy with who she had become to this point!
“It’s not really like
that sugar. You do not lose you, well not after the first three days anyways.
After that your memory of being something other then a blood filled tick
hunting for even more ruby nectar does come back. Then after about a week you
are as mentally stable as you were when you started. In essence you become you,
but to the tenth power of amplification. However we are getting down to the
last few pints so I best tell you the specifics hadn’t I?”
Mallory wished with all her heart to
kick his ass. He was acting like her life being ended was a joke! Mental
laughter as sweet as the verbal version had been before echoed in her head.
“It’s simple version
time. After the week we’ll get more in depth about the new life you are about
to embark on. First though, about the transformation.
The transformation into
a creature capable of living mostly on blood when the situation or inclinations
of that thirsty beast inside you require it is horrendously painful. Your
organs are going to basically pulp themselves and reform. Lungs heart liver
kidneys and stomach intestines and every other minor and major system inside
you is going to go completely off the charts.
You will be thrashing
about on the ground back here, screaming, as much as you are able to with
reforming lungs, as loudly as you can. That is why it is a good thing humans
normally dismiss our very existence as something unacceptable in their little
reality. Otherwise the hunters would be on you and even I could not defend you.
the first thing that changes is presence. Vampires had to evolve this way or we
would simply not exist even in pre-humanity legends. The fae, the Sidhe, or the
elves, would have killed all their own Vampires long before the first human was
turned.
After your organs
change your eyesight will alter. Invest in super extra special sunglasses sugar.
You are going to need them. Depending on your blood take for the past 24-48
hours you will be affected by sunlight to various degrees. The worst that will
happen though is that your skin burns like a fair complected human and you pass
out. It won’t kill you or make you combust like that old fairy story. That’s
bull shit.
I’ll let you have all
the gang bangers money and weapons and anything else you want to take from
them. There are even two clinging to life that can give you blood down at the
end of the alleyway by those trash cans. Never drink the blood of the dead. It
will sicken you and decrease the effectiveness of any good blood you have
inside you already. The flight of the soul corrupts the blood. After that it is
unfit to drink, save as a last desperate act to see you through until fresh,
live, blood can be had.
Other vamps can share
blood with you. Some consider it an intense intimacy and others think it’s just
kink. Others will do so but to them it is like emergency donation of blood to
the hospital is for humans. An act of charity not repeated unless some other
horror comes up. After your week you will know when something like that occurs.
Some things, some events, requires a gathering of us, who are normally
solitary predators. A call in your mind from me or someone else in our line
will most likely be the summons. Sometimes though gut instinct says to you to
be someplace and get there faster then fast. Answer those calls without fail.
Those come from one of us in so much trouble or pain that they can’t help but
send out the call. However be careful, because they can no more help it then a
human can help the beating of their fragile little heart, this is often used by
hunters to draw us into a trap.
Still, for the first
few days I will not be far from your side. You need not fear sweet veins.”
“It’s Mallory. Mallory
Sestina Valiant. Not Sweet Veins or Sugar or any other candy coated reference
to the fact that you like how I taste.”
“Defiant aren’t you. Oh
well you’ll learn fast or you will be among the short lived of my offspring.
Now the transformation begins.”
The Vampire looked at his watch, a
nice gentleman’s watch on a fancy golden chain, and counted down. When he
reached zero her heart rate sped up from the almost non-existent pulse it had
been making before to near frantic. The rhythm grew uneven and she found it
hard to take a breath, it felt like she was drowning. Your organs are going
to basically pulp themselves and reform. He had said or had he merely
thought it loud enough so she could hear it? Searing pain like something
shredding out her insides made her try to scream. All that came out was a wet
sounding gurgle then a slight screeching sound that no one would hear over
traffic at this time of night.
“And the darkness swallows light, the
dead rise to drink the blood of the living, the moon eclipses the sun. Then All
Is Shadow Ever More.”
Vampires were apparently religious
about the moment of transformation. Mallory snarled silently as even her vocal
cords reformed. When he said all of the systems in her body, it had turned out
to be an understatement. Even her skin felt different. As he mind began to be
overcome by the thirst she let instinct force her so recently harmed flesh up
and out to the other end of the alleyway. There lay the two fatally wounded yet
still dying humans. They were easy prey. Easy felt just about the right sped at
that point.
Her newly formed fangs slid out of
her head and Mallory struck the neck of the one gang member. A brief taste of
skin and aftershave and then the warm rush of hot blood. Four pints came out of
this weakened human before he expired. The rest of his blood she could smell
had leaked into his body cavity because of internal organ damage. She cut loose
just as her sire was going to force her to release. She felt the soul fly free
to go to whatever judgment awaited. The other one she was just about to snack
on but he had the rudeness to die first. His soul escaped and she flipped a
finger in it’s direction. This made her sire laugh.
“By the way Miss Valiant. I am known by the name of Brady and you know
by instinct of course that I am your sire. You too must have a name to give
while living your vampire life. Especially since you don’t want to be a public
vampire just yet. Let’s see…Candi? No you hate that already I can tell. Sugar
fangs? Nah that’ll just be your private nickname when your with me… Oh I see I
better not sleep for a while after I use it ether…Oh I have it!”
Mallory waited in ferocious
anticipation to see what her sire would decide to call her. Once he permanently
decided then she was stuck with it. She could tell that much. He was basically
her guardian until she could deal for herself among her new kindred. He was in
charge and all she knew about him was that he was a fellow vein junkie and an
older one. His Nickname among the fellow fanged was Brady. It sounded normal
enough to be his real name. But what horrible thing would he call her? His
sense of humor seemed to be the type of a practical joker only he didn’t care
if he really hurt you with his jokes.
“Since you will be as sweet and
wonderful for all time now, well unless you do something stupid or get yourself
killed through misfortune, I am going to call you Eversweet. How do you like
that one lovely?”
“It’s better then some of the things
you could have called me. I’ll keep that one till I earn a better one I guess.”
“Yes that’s how it works. I see your
instincts are top notch. As expected from someone of our line. Well kid lets go
out and get you some more pints.”
Brady carefully supported her out of
the alleyway and onto the street. They walked up the sidewalk, stepping over
wino’s and wandering past bag ladies. He quickly explained why they were not
taking a casual drink from these people.
“It’s best to keep away from those who
have done nothing to earn a little nip. That and you can bite someone and not
transform them into anything if your not to hungry. It also gives you access to
their thoughts and you can manipulate them easily if you have the will.”
Mallory wanted to rip his face off
when he snidely said that it was possible to feed and not transform someone. He
did it out of greed! Out of gluttony for her blood! He had stolen her life just
because she tasted like candy to him!
“And barbequed wench tastes like
candy to me!”
He was teasing. He found her fury
funny. When she grew strong, and she already had a plan for that, then he’d be
laughing out the other side of his face!
“These guys however totally deserve
what they get. I find it a sort of justice that they have a hungry fledgling
set loose among them.”
Gang members. Having been fed right
away, Mallory was not consumed enough by the hunger to forget what had almost
happened. That and her entry into the accursed alleyway had been all those
stupid gang member’s fault! These looked to be more of the same, with bandannas
or “flags” of the same color and similar gang land tattoos.
She forced her presence on them and
they perceived. All of them saw her, looking like a ready made victim. Their
pathetic instincts called and they rose as one to attack. Her sire hung back to
see how she would perform. Brady watch this! She called to him in the
way he had spoken to her. then she charged. From prey to predator from weak to
no doubt remaining of her own strength
In the bloodshed that followed
Mallory forgot all about the wicked way she had been brought into the unlife,
she forgot all about her annoyance at her sire. Hell she even forgot that she
was Mallory. All that remained was Eversweet. All that remained was the hunger.
