Disclaimer: I do not own Kingdom Hearts, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Important note: I'm not really a fan of having to put necessary information outside of a fanfic, but its unavoidable, I guess. This fic was tricky for getting a good time for it to take place, but I figured this... It takes place well after all the events of the first game, but it's as if the second game never happened. Its an amazing leap of logic and trust here to say something like that, but this is for the most part an 'AU high school' fanfic, so obviously not all canon need apply. It does tie into some points of the second game, but not the main plot. I'm hoping it'll work out anyway.
All characters are 18 years or older.

Chapter 1
It was the most disgusting thing Sora had ever seen. Every time his eyes happened to even quickly glance at it, he wanted to puke. The most dreadful thing of this world...
Roxas.
His 'Nobody'.
Sora hated it. It made him feel like an outsider because it existed. Only he and his good friend, Kairi, were the only people in the world to be alive with their nobodies walking around. Even so, Namine was an outcast herself for being so unlike a nobody. Everyone called her a witch. It was definitely not an endearing title, but no one cared.
After all, a nobody did not have feelings. The people were free to treat them anyway they wanted. And that is exactly what they did. There were no laws to protect the rights or well-being of nobodies. Nobodies did not need love, help, nor sympathy.
Thus, as Sora walked by his nobody in the hallway, he scowled at him. He felt the urge to punch or spit in Roxas' face and only didn't as Riku tapped his shoulder.
"Come on, Sora. There's no point in getting so caught up with it. We got homeroom to get to."
Just hearing Riku's voice immediately distracted Sora from his displeasure at seeing the previous man. A smile shone brightly on his face as he regained his typical disposition.
"Thanks, Riku! Hey, did you do the math homework..."
The voices faded off as Roxas was left in the hallway. He had been picking up his biology book from his locker when he noticed the stare from Sora. It was odd because he questioned how to respond to his constant glares, but couldn't think of a thing. He decided not long ago that it would probably be best to ignore them and just move on with his life. Yet he couldn't help but notice that those eyes moved something in his stomach. There was something that was so completely and amazingly wrong with the looks Sora gave him.
Roxas did not need to be worrying about this now, however. He had that biology test first period today and needed to do some last minute cramming. It's not like there was anything better to do until he was able to finally see Axel at lunch.
Sometimes, he wondered what the point of continuing anything was. It was not like there was a future for any of the nobodies. Typically, nobodies in society did get jobs, but usually they weren't anything spectacular. You would never see a nobody entrepreneur, but maybe a waiter and sometimes a teacher. Vexen was the only nobody teacher at this school and he taught Roxas' biology class. It didn't matter what occupation a nobody held, they were all paid the same dirt amount.
For some reason, this fact never bothered Roxas. Nor Axel. Nor any of his friends. Maybe that was why it was even this way in the first place.
To further the exclusion, all nobodies had a dress code of a long black coat (along with black pants and shoes). No one knew who came up with this strange idea, but the nobodies accepted it regardless. Perhaps they felt a need to differentiate themselves from the 'normal humans.'
Roxas wasn't concerned about being normal or not and he lived pretty much for the sake of living. That's all there was to it really. No day was particularly special or interesting, save for the weekend when there was no school.
Somehow, though, he did look forward to lunchtime and socializing with the other nobodies at the school. There were very few nobodies alive and in a human-like form. They had a coalition formed to be sort of a gathering place which they called Organization XIII. A rather fanciful name, but it was true there were only 13 nobodies, in this city at least. Though Namine was a nobody also, she was not included. The young woman mostly kept to herself and her drawings.
Roxas put her out of his mind as quickly as she had entered. The end of school came and he was able to easily find Axel waiting by his car as usual. The question Axel brought up when they got in and started driving off did surprise Roxas a bit.
"I saw Sora looking at you earlier and all pissed off. Did you do something to him?"
"Axel, you know how he is. Sora's just upset that I'm around since I make him look bad or something. I don't understand it really. He's a flashy guy; standing out should be his thing." Roxas didn't really care to think much more into the subject and pulled out an apple leftover from lunch to eat.
Axel kept his eyes on the road, but frowned. Sora was known as an oblivious kind of guy, and sometimes this just rubbed off on Roxas too. "I don't think he hates you, Rox. He definitely hates your existence, but you yourself... Well, he doesn't even know you. Maybe you should talk with him so you're not constantly being sent death glares."
"He doesn't hate me, just hates that I exist. That doesn't even make any sense."
Axel drove the car to rest in the driveway. He sighed as he was getting out, "If you don't care about it then, whatever. Let's go fuck, shall we?"
Roxas was more than happy to give his approval at the suggestion. Soon enough, they were heading up the stairs to Axel's apartment and bed, stripping away their clothes and grinding into each other's body in a heated passion of hormones and lust.
After some time, they curled up on the bed, both panting and sweating from their exertions."'Let's take a shower in a bit." Axel nodded in agreement as he studied the swirly patterns making up the ceiling.
"Axel, sex is so wonderful. Nobodies aren't supposed to feel, but then why is it so pleasurable?"
He let out a small chuckle, "Sex is all about hormones. Hormones come from your brain, not your heart."
There was silence for a few seconds, possibly minutes, but definitely not an hour nor forever, until Roxas spoke up again.
"I hope you don't do it with anyone else."
This was certainly a surprise. The connotation behind the simple statement was something a girl would say to her boyfriend or the like. Axel never thought of being 'with' Roxas in anyway; he was just someone to screw every now and again. Or, everyday as it had been lately.
Axel wondered if it would even be possible to have a relationship with the other man. He supposed if it weren't for love, then at least for companionship and having someone to hang with.
"Axel?"
He suddenly snapped out of his thoughts to see a scowled look on Roxas' face. Apparently, he had gone into thought and forgot about answering the boy back. "Sure, Rox, but you should promise not to leave me."
"I won't. Something tells me that if you ever left me, that it'd be unbearable and I'd die or something."
"Heh, what deep thoughts... Come on, let's go take that shower." With that, they up and left to get cleaned. Neither noticed that this moment was the beginning of their realization for their existence.
Notes: I feel some parts are a bit cheesy, but it does have a direction at least that's been worked out in my head. The next chapter should be up soonish (working on it now). This is unlikely to go over 5 chapters. I just... don't write long stories.
