AN: So this is my first story be patient with me, please. I would eventually like this to work it's way up to a Yaoi but we'll see where this particular plot bunny takes us (hopefully Lord Voldemort doesn't show up in this one). I hope it doesn't sound too much like everything else. C&C are welcome. And please forgive the bad spelling, I'm writting this on the fly.
Oh yeah before I forget: Sheik's his own seperate person in this, before you get all up and jumpity about it, give me a few chapters I evetually plan on explaining the why/how of that.
A soldier entered the throne room, walked steadily to the front, center of it and dropped to one knee before his king and princess. The king nodded his head in acknowledgement and motioned for the man to rise. The princess shuffled almost unperceptibally, her skirt neather ruffled nor made a sound but the king noticed that she sat a little straighter and that the bored, glazed look that had been in her eyes a moment before was now gone; she was more alert and awake then he had seen her in some months. Something was up.
"Your highnesses, the warrior You sent for has arrived. He awaits Your instructions."
Ahhh so that's what it was... The king thought, almost smiling. The young princess had been waiting keenly for the young warrior for some months now. Why, the king had no idea, something about oracles and sages and impending doom. Poppycock, he thought. But the young man came with high praises from every armsmaster from Death Mountain all the way through the valleys to the very outskirts of the land beyond Hyrule Lake. He even came with commendations from the Gerudos, not that the sneak-theives were to be trusted too far, but their fighters were hard and even harder to please, and he must have done something extremely impressive to have them singing his praises. And if the Princess 'saw' some impending doom in the far off distance, then who was he to tell her what to do. Eventually she would take over as his successor, let this be a little lesson in using resourses wisely why not. And so what if she sent some poor boy out on a wild goose chase, it was one young man and he had enough bored soldiers on his hands to worry about one."If that is indeed the case, then We shall not bore the court with idle chit-chat about defense. This court is dismissed and We shall see the young man in Our study. Sergent you shall show him the way." The king raises a hand and motioned to one of his more higher ranked men along the wall and made to leave the room.Zelda rose and followed her father, glimpsing once towards the now open courtroom doors, trying to get a glimpse of the long 'lost' and now forgotten hero. She saw nothing however just a flurry of robes and a lot of fanfare as the noble and elite of Hyrule departed from the chamber. She hardly noticed when two Sheikah detatched themselves from the shadows and followed after her and her father, mind one didn't always notice what was common place, now did they?Link paced nervously and waited for Zelda to arrive, he'd been shown to a study somewhere just off the main ballroom/courtroom. Calling it a courtroom reminded him of the places to the south where people were held on trial in front of a judge, something that that room had not been. The sheer enormity of the entire palace in fact had made Link feel very small and insignificant, something he hadn't felt, indeed in such a very verylong time. It seemed twice as long now in fact, a couple of decades instead of seven or eight short years, since he had last seen Zelda or the palace, or the inner valleys of Hyrule for that matter. And even when he had been here he'd met Zelda in the garden, which had felt like a big place, but a place where he could be at ease, even if for a short time. Now he was nervous, the missive Zelda had sent him had been short, formal and not very infomative. He was worried that something was wrong, that Ganondorf had escaped again, that he might again be needed to wield the Master Sword once again to save Hyrule.
It hadn't been until he'd arrived here and had the men at the gate treat him like an ignorant begger, that it occured to him that she might have though he wouldn't be able to read the missive himself. And giving a great deal of detail in a letter that would have been read aloud would have been a great mistake if the fate of the Kingdom was once again at risk. And then walking through these halls, following a man who should have been one of the Princesse's personal bodyguards, that it hit him...She might not even remember me, which means... He cut that thought off before it could go any further. He didn't exist therefore he couldn't forget who he was, because he didn't know him in the first place. The gentle patter of footsteps coming down the hallway interrupting Links thoughts of the past, and he turned towards the door, standing at attention, as if he hadn't been pacing worriedly the entire wait. As if he were a trained soldier called upon by his King to address a threat, personally, as any soldier would honoured to do.The door openned and the King and Princess entered the room, followed by a scant two body guards. Impa and...Link almost did a double take, for standing beside Impa, just behind the king was none other than Sheik, Princess Zelda's alternate ego... But then... How????A million and a half thoughts ran through his head at high speed, and it was all Link could do not to look flabbergasted. He bowed deeply to the King and Princess, and as he looked up he saw Zelda shake her head almost inperceptibly. It wasn't what he thought, or perhaps who he thought.Zelda took in the sight of a now fully grown, fully trained Hero of Time. He still wore his same old green tunic, but underneath he had adopted a well cared for, but beaten set of chain mail. His white trousers had remeained the same, and he still wore the same Kokori hat, she wondered if she would ever see him without it... Atop his clothes he wore a dark coak, of some unknown thick, tough looking material, and strapped over that he had his trusty Hylian shield and a sword that bore a striking resemblance to the legendy sword he had once wielded. Indeed it seemed that he hadn't changed at all from the last time she had seen him, grown up that is."Well, well lad, stand up straight please." The king began, giving Link a once over. "Now seeing as Our young Princess Zelda was the one whom gave the summons I'm going to excuse myself and leave her to explain whatever it is that's going on. I'll leave both Sheik and Lady Impa here as proper chaperones, and take my leave. Good day."And with that, he left, leaving Zelda and Impa looking almost shocked. Sheik of course betrayed no emotion whatsoever, although Link thought he saw an eyebrow arch ever so slightly but he wasn't sure. Apparently this wasn't typical behavior of the king. Maybe it was another case of not believing what his young daughter told him of the fate of his kingdom. It wouldn't have been the first time, if he remembered correctly. Although, he never had discovered what had become of the king when Ganondorf had taken over the castle, he had a feeling the man hadn't survived for very long."Well, I guess that just leaves us to get down to business then." Zelda said clearing her throat lightly. "Link these two are my father's and mine personal body guards, Sheik and the Lady Impa, they are of the Sheikah tribe that lies to the north, past and beyond Death Mountain. Lady Impa, Sheik this young man here is Link of the Kokori, we met once as young children. Link managed to sneak past the guards in the garden to visit me once."She smiled at that and for the first time since he had arrived here, he let the hope float to his chest that not everyone had forgotten him. From behind her he saw Impa smile faintly as well, that hope rose just a little further. Furitvely he let his eyes flit to the third, and most silent member of the little party, but there was no recognition in those eyes, and Link felt hope fail."Link has proven himself to be a versitile and handy warrior on many of our borders and I was hoping that he would be able to help us with the problem we've been having to the south." Zelda paused at that moment and gave him a questioning glance, to which he nodded. However he had to wonder what problems in the south she could be talking about, he had just been there and everything was calmer than he'd ever seen it...But perhaps, he thought. Looking for the first time to the map on the table, just off to his left. That was exactly the problem."Link I would like you to travel, south past Lake Hylia and its southern most villages. We have heard rumor of a magic growing there, and I would like you to investigate it for me. You have sufficient enough experiences with magic to give a better report than any of the agents we have placed down there." She glanced at Impa to her left, who nodded. "However, as extra insurance, I would like you to take Sheik along with you."Link openned his mouth to protest, but someone else beat him to it."Your Highness, I do not mean to offend, but I object!"While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
