"I’m sorry Riku, but I don't think we can be together anymore” said a sweet voiced blonde. She bit at her pink-glossed lips before continuing, "It's not you, it’s me...and hopefully we can still be friends"
The silver haired teen simply sighed before offering her a smirk accompanied by a shrug."It's alright Namine…I had a feeling this was going to happen anyways… I'll see you around then...I guess" he said softly before he turned and walked away, but a dainty hand grasped his wrist.
"I don't want you to distance yourself from me, Riku. It’s just that−” she was silenced by Riku’s gentle finger pressing against her lips.
"I know..." Riku replied softly, “don’t worry about it, ok?” His smirk never wavered and he turned away walking off in the opposite direction. He missed the bright smile that Namine flashed him as she pulled out a light pink envelope. A name was written on it in curvy loopy writing, she mouthed ‘thank you’ to Riku’s retreating back before she ran off with her books pressed firmly against her chest.
Riku stuffed his hands into his pockets as he walked at a slow and leisurely pace. He tilted his head up a bit, he thought over what had just occurred. //another girl left me...what…its been a week? Two maybe…a whole new record for me…// It wasn’t as if he wasn’t popular, and he wasn’t a player or anything, not at all. For whatever reason, he could never manage to keep a girlfriend no longer than a few weeks//maybe I’m just a bad boyfriend//, but that was not what bothered him. No, it was the fact that each of the girls that had left him shared one common trait.
"Riku!"
Riku turned on his heels to spot a boy with wild spiky brown hair running toward him. A rare smile spread across Riku’s lips but it soon changed into an amused smirk after watching his friend trip and stumble coming to a rolling stop at his feet. "You know Sora...they say no running in the halls for a reason," he said as he arched an eyebrow and offered a helping hand.
Sora smiled cheekily and took Riku’s offered hand. "But I wanted to see you” he said fluttering his lashes in a very girly manner as Riku pulled him up, the silver haired teen rolled his eyes before swatting Sora on the head, he turned and walked off leaving his friend behind.
Sora laughed before his expression turned serious, he tilted his head to the side. "So… you and Namine broke up already…what it’s been a week or two…new record ne?" he said as he dusted off dirt from his clothes before catching up with Riku.
Riku stiffened and stopped walking before he looked at Sora, “how did you know about that?" he asked as he turned around.
Sora bit his lip before he pulled out a light pink envelope waving it slightly. It was the same envelope that Namine pulled out from her backpack earlier...Riku stared, he knew that was Namine…she was the only girl he knew who used pink paper for everything, including school projects, he scoffed a bit “Not even a fucking hour as passed!!” Riku snapped as he glared at the note, he could also recognize the handwriting anywhere… She did exactly what Riku’s ex’s had done.
Nearly every single one of them, within hours after breaking up with him would try hook up with his best and most trusted friend, Sora. Not as if the younger boy ever actually accepted any of their offers, as far as he knew anyways. Both Riku and Sora were popular in school, Riku mostly for his mature and sexy looks and Sora for his sweet almost innocent charm.
"She just asked me out" Sora said as he lightly sniffed the note. Even from where he was standing, Riku could smell the soft subtle scent of her perfume that had most likely been sprayed onto the pink note affectionately. “I already told her I wasn’t interested….she sorta started to cry…heh heh that’s why I came looking for you”
Riku said nothing as he walked pointedly passed Sora, at the end of the hallway there was a clearing where a large tree stood, that was surrounded with a patch of soft grass. He threw his things down before he sat in his usual spot, folding his arms over his chest and closing his eyes, a slight scowl fixating over his features.
Sora nervously sat down as well, directly across from him before he lightly touched his knee. "Riku, you're not mad or anything...are you?" he asked tentively
"Why!? Why do they always ALWAYS! Break up with me and then ask you out!?" Riku burst out suddenly startling Sora and making the younger boy jump. "What do I do wrong? I mean, I don’t' want to sound totally conceded but I know it's not my looks. I fucking spoil them rotten and shit and this is all I ever get in payment?!?!" he ranted before he laid back and covered his eyes with his hands.
Sora sighed softly, very used to this argument. He could not explain it himself. Apart from the fact that he would never betray Riku’s trust. Sora was never really interested in any of the girls that Riku dated. Then again, Sora was never really interested in any girl around the school...not that he ever put much thought into it. "I think...” Sora began as he opened up the top to his homemade lunch; A crisp salad with a dash of dressing. "It’s because you don’t seem to open up enough to them...they think that you don’t' really care…ya know, you’re keeping them around for looks..." he handed Riku a few croutons as he munched on a forkful of lettuce. “Like…when they see you they think your all cool….but maybe they think your cold hearted or something” Sora licked his lips a bit before he smirked as he leaned over and pinched Riku’s cheek “but we all know wittle wiku is a big hearted teddy bear”
Riku slapped Sora’s hand away and glared at him darkly as he chewed the croutons thoughtfully “you really think that could be it?" he asked after a moment.
Sora nodded as he held out a forkful of cucumbers. Riku ate them off the fork licking at his lips. They both looked up. From a stretch of bushes in front of them, a flurry of hushed whispers erupted.
"Oh look how close they're sitting! "
"They’re fucking hot!"
"Awww...they're sharing lunch! He’s even feeding him!”
“How romantic!"
"Shhhhh!! do you want them to hear!?"
Riku looked at Sora before they both huffed loudly and looked away from each other. The students around the school had a rumor flying about them. Everyone seemed to think that Riku and Sora were going out. Neither of the two could figure out what it was that they both did that made the rumors start. Sora looked at Riku and sighed, arching his eyebrow and motioning to the bushes where the loud ruckus came from. Riku could read the look perfectly and he shrugged at Sora. The brunette pouted before he tapped his fingers, his expression changing slightly. At that, Riku rolled his eyes before he stood up and walked over to the bushes. He stood there, glaring down at the girls who had gathered there. They all squealed before they looked up at Riku with bright blushes on their faces. Cold aqua eyes glared at them icily "anything I could help you with?"
One of the girls looked up at him before she shook her head "...we...we were just..."
"You were what? Coming up with your own conclusions so you can go back to your damn friends and help then spread more of the fu−" he trailed off before he looked over his shoulder at Sora who was shaking his head a bit. "..Whatever...just clear out so we can eat our lunch in peace" he said before he walked back over to Sora and sat down. The girls all stared before they gathered their things and scurried away whispering rapidly amongst each other.
"Thought you wanted me to get rid of them” Riku growled as he tore into a baby carrot.
Sora took the same carrot and ate the rest “ I didn’t mean unleash your fury on them” he said as he munched on some of his salad, "plus it’s not like telling them to stop, or chewing them out is really going to stop them. Plus, the bigger of a fight we put up, the more they're going to really think that it is true.”
"Oh and sitting around not saying anything is going to make it better?" Riku asked as he ran a hand through his hair. "Hell, even our friends think we're going out!”
"Ya …but I think it’s just the girls obsession with Yaoi that’s making them think that” Sora said as he finished his lunch and put it away. “It’s so annoying”
Riku laid back on his hands before he sighed “there has to be a way...a way for us to get them to stop..."
After Lunch
Finally it was the very last class of the day…. English. Sora was resting his head on his folded arms his eyes half closed as he dozed off. The teacher was droning on about some book they were going to be reading while they all worked on the project she had assigned from the previous class.
The silver haired teen was sitting next to Sora, several papers spread out on the desk as he finished their project. He glanced at Sora before he rolled his eyes and used the end of his pencil to poke him in the face. “you better wake up or I’m not giving you any credit for this…” Riku whispered harshly.
Sora moaned a bit and buried his face against his arms “you love me too much …you wouldn’t do that to me” he mumbled.
Behind them both, their friend Selphie was sighing happily “awww how romantic”
Riku glanced over his shoulder at her before he looked back at Sora and poked him hard in the stomach making his friend squeak and curl into himself. “C’mon honey bunch…wakey wakey”
The brunette sleepily lifted head to glare at Riku a pout forming on his lips. The silver haired teen simply grinned as he slid a piece of paper and a pencil to him. “…I hate you” Sora muttered as he grabbed his pencil and laid his head down again and began to write, though rather sloppily.
The silver haired boy smirked before he leaned in closer “you know…if we get a good grade on this project…I could take you out for a little reward treat….maybe a trip to Bubble Scoops?” Riku said in the most persuasive voice he could.
Sora perked a bit, even lifting his head from his desk “…you mean you’ll get me a..”
“Almond and coconut vanilla swirl with extra, extra whipped cream and caramel?” Riku finished . Selphie was grinning even wider now motioning for yuffie and kairi to come over and listen to the two boys “…of course…only if you get me a…”
“Triple chocolate brownie and fudge Sunday with coconut shavings and a dash of mint?” Sora finished this time with a smirk.
“You know me well” Riku said as he turned back to his work.
Sora grinned, feeling far more energetic from the promise of ice cream “no..I’m just your best and closest friend” he said simply lightly nudging Riku before he gave him the teasing girly lashes again “honey bunch..”
The girls all sighed collectively before beginning to jabber amongst themselves.
later that day, after school
"Hey, Sora!"
Sora, who was leaning against a rail with his pack slung over his shoulder, looked up as Kairi came running over his direction.
She panted a bit before she smiled sweetly, "Hey, Are you and Riku are coming over to hang out with us at Tidus’s house?" she asked.
Before Sora could answer, out of nowhere, Riku appeared next to him replied, “Sure”. Sora smirked a bit before he nodded in agreement.
Kairi gave both boys an odd look before she giggled and nodded once. "Alright, I’ll see you there" she paused for a moment though before she got a eerie little smile “…great job on that project in class today…just make sure you don’t take too long you your little date guys” she said before she ran off.
Both boys watched her go with the same expression on their faces “Date” they both said softly at the same time.
Riku though suddenly growled before he yelled at Kairi’s retreating back “It’s not a date Kairi its just a favor!!”
Kairi looked over her shoulder and gave him a look that clearly said //suuuure it is…..//
Sora giggled nervously before he took Riku’s arm and pulled him toward the student parking lot. “Remember what I said…more of a fight more they’ll think its for real” he said
Soon, both were in Riku’s' car and driving towards Tidus’s house. Riku and Sora both decided they’d stop for ice cream on their way back to Sora’s house, since Riku was going to spend the night…as was always customary on …well on every day. Tidus’s house was not too far from the school. Their friends house was the main place for the teens in their group to hang, and it is where everyone met and gathered every single day with out fail. They mostly sat around and played video games, or watched movies. The girls: Kairi, Yuffie, and Selphie, would go into their corner and gossip as they did their homework while the boys: Riku, Sora , Tidus, Waaka, Axel and Roxas (Sora’s twin brother) would sit and play games.
Sora rested his elbow on the armrest before he glanced at Riku. "Hey Riku ..I was thinking”
“That’s a scary thought” Riku inturupted with a smirk earning a hard punch in the arm “hey watch it…I’m driving”
Sora glared before he huffed a bit “like I was saying…I was thinking...about what you said at lunch. You know, about finding a way to get everyone to stop it..."
"I'm listening" Riku said as he flicked his turning signal on glancing around at the other drivers.
"Well...they think that we're together right?” Sora began slowly “So what if we were to prove them right? But we make it like we don’t' want them to know, but we do." Sora said as a rosy blush covered his cheeks, “I mean we won't actually be dating or anything...for real. But act like we're going out, but we're not, but we are?"
Riku gave Sora a very confused look, "So act like what they think is really going on is going on, and act like we don't want them to know, even though we want them to know?"
Sora nodded with a bright grin, Riku snorted before he rolled his eyes "That is the most out there idea you have ever gotten… How the hell do you know this will work?" he asked.
Sora tapped his lips before he grinned, "I know, how about we test it out when we get to Tidus’s place just something small. And when they try and really confront us about it…we tell them it was all a joke!" the brown haired boy finished with a smile.
Riku made a turn before he looked at Sora “I don’t know…I don’t see the logic in it…I mean…if we do what they already think we’re doing its only going to prove them right…and then even if we try to tell them it’s a joke they’ll say that it was too real to be a joke” he said waving his hand in the air for emphasis.
Sora’s face fell a bit before he chewed at his lip “If we tell them it’s a joke though, then maybe they’ll believe what ever it is that we already do is part of the joke…so they’ll really believe us” he said.
“ ok we’ll try it…just for the fact that I’m willing to do anything to get them to back off, but, what sort of stuff we are going to be doing? Cause according to them, we already act like we're going out." Riku said.
"Well, I guess we could hold hands or something... and maybeshareasmallkissorsomethinglikethat..." Sora began but the last part came out in a jumbled mumble as his face turned a bright red.
Riku looked at Sora. It was only through years of knowing Sora that he was able to understand that gibberish talk. He cleared his throat before he nodded"...maybe you're right...but how about we just go with the flow for now, ok?" he said as he pulled up parking next to Axel’s motorcycle. The boys stepped out of the car, Sora looked at Riku but Riku leaned down and muttered softly "just act normal, ok? Just… follow my lead..."
Sora nodded before he just ran ahead and tore the door open, “Heeeeeellooooooooooo!" Sora called out.
"We're in the living room!" Came Kari’s voice.
Sora and Riku walked towards the living room after removing their shoes at the door. Sora nearly jumped out of his skin though when he felt Riku’s hand encasing his own. “Riku?”
The aqua eyed boy whispered softly to him “just before we get to the door…let go of my hand …”
Sora nodded as he flexed his hand a bit, he noted though that Riku’s hand was rather soft despite the fact that Riku was on the sword fighting team, along with himself.
The teens walked down the hall silently, Riku glanced back at Sora giving him an encouraging smile before he mouthed “well here goes”.
He walked into the room pulling Sora with him, just as their friends looked up, Sora hastily pulled his hand from Riku’s grip and tried to make it look like he was hiding it. He didn’t have to fake the small blush that covered his cheeks though he did his best to cover it; he noticed Riku was having the same problem. The brunette though acted as if nothing odd happened as he joined his brother and the other boy’s at their little table.
Everyone in the room though was staring at them and they had all gone a bit quiet. When Riku gave them all a questioning look it was as if the volume had been turned up and everyone went back to what they were doing, though the girls seemed to be speaking more rapidly.
The two friends shared a look…maybe…just maybe…this could work
