Disclaimer: I do not own the series of Ledgend of Zelda nor the Characters. I do not make money off this fiction and never will. Thank you! |
A/N:
I read through my old story “Turn of Darkness” and found the small
paragraph within that spoke of how Sheik came to be. I know of the dispute of
Sheik being boy or girl. I am a firm believer that Sheik is a Male but I will not
say I am right nor will I say others are wrong. Just my opinion and I am
allowed to have it (right?) as others are allowed to have their own. Now this
story is inspired because of that paragraph. I will not tell you where it is so
you will have to read that story to find it. I know I am evil.
Because
of this inspiration I am writing this fiction. Please enjoy the story of where
Sheik came from and how his fate became tied to the royal family. I give you:
Binding Hearts: Sheiks
Tale
Not
many people know but the Sheikah, the loyal protectors of the Hylian Royal
family, were not always protectors of the Royal family. This story is very old
starting long ago back before heroes were needed, before the darkness tried to
reign over the land of Hyrule. Back when the different races could not live
together in peace and harmony.
The
land was covered with a fine mist as the sun slowly climbed its way over the
eastern mountains. The small village of Kakariko lay in the shadow of the
mountains. The sun crawled over only to be greeted by thick clouds that hung
low over the land. The village was quiet during this morning because of the
poor weather. Even the children were quiet and tired this morning.
On
the west most side of town near the gates of Death Mountain was a small house.
Within the house a young woman laid crying in pain, a man sitting near her
holding her hand trying to comfort her as best he could, and an older woman
moving about the house gathering a few things before sitting by the woman’s
legs.
“Shenka
kneel behind her so she can lean back against you.” The older woman barked out
watching the man move quickly lifting the woman a bit as he knelt behind her
letting the woman lean back against him. Shenka was a tall man with ruby red
eyes, deep tanned skin, and golden blond hair.
The
older woman wrapped a few cloths around the woman’s legs making straps and
pushed them back handing the cloth straps to the man to hold. The woman
screamed out once more as tears came from her face as the pain she felt was
almost unbearable. The older woman only took deep breath trying to get the
woman to fallow with little success.
“Push
my girl Push.” The old woman spoke continuing her breathing and starting a few
other things and started counting when she saw the woman push.
The
woman pushed as hard as she could sweat starting to pour from her face. She
cried out again and panted heavily. The woman looked up to Shenka her rose
colored eyes glazed with tears. She was in so much pain and it wasn’t stopping.
She leaned forward pushing again though this time her efforts paid off as the
sound of a crying new born filled the room.
“It
is a boy!” the old woman cheered out.
The
woman and man smiled hearing the sound. The woman leaned back against the man
her breathing ragged and shallow. She smiled again and looked down seeing the
old woman holding the baby and wrapping it in clothes quickly. The old woman
handed the baby to the mother and then quickly severed the connection between
the mother and child. The man smiled down and gently lifted the baby from the
woman and held it close. He himself started to cry unable to hold back his
tears of joy.
The
older woman walked over and lifted the mother letting Shenka move out from
behind her then laid the woman down to finish her work. Working quickly the
older woman started to clean the mess and properly took care of the mother so
she could rest. However the gods had different plans as the mothers shallow
breathing grew strained. Shenka stood in fear holding the child in his hands.
He couldn’t believe what was happening.
“Raise
him well Shenka, be a good boy Sheik.” The woman spoke softly before fading.
The
older woman couldn’t stop the mother from bleeding from giving birth nor could
she save the woman’s life. Within a matter of moments the woman laid silent and
lifeless. Her face paled and her rose colored eyes looking over to Shenka and
her baby. The old woman submitted in defeat before pulling a sheet over the
woman to cover her body.
“I
am so sorry Shenka. I tried the best I could.” The old woman spoke softly.
Shenka
dropped to his knees and looked to his son tears streaming down his face. The
baby fussed and started to cry again. Shenka wrapped his arm around the boy and
held him close. He could not believe what happened. His child came to the world
and his wife and love left. He didn’t know what to do or how he could raise a
child by himself.
“Pray
the elders bless with health and greatness when they visit, my son.” Shenka
spoke softly holding Sheik in his hands.
The
sun had crept high in to the sky making the clouds slowly vanish till the blue
sky above peaked through. The children of the town made their ways outside to
play. Their laughter filled the air along with the chatter of adults working
their way out to do a few daily chores. None of them knew what happened that
morning, none knew a child was born and a soul was lost in death.
***Hyrule Castle***
“Your
Highness you must push harder.” A nurse cried out watching a sweating queen
push as hard as she could trying to give birth to her first child.
The
queen was known as Queen Zelda the name of every princess and queen of Hyrule to exist. She had long golden blond hair that was
pulled up in to a rather messy top knot. Her eyes were blue and sparked with
tears from the pain she was in and the strength she was losing because of the
child she was trying to birth. Her fair pale skin shined with sweat as she
pushed again and again trying to deliver the child within her.
“Goddesses
please give me your strength.” Zelda cried out loudly as she gave one more push
before hearing the screech of a new baby.
“It’s
a girl you’re Highness!” the doctor cheered as he wrapped the new babe is
towels and blankets.
Zelda
smiled and leaned back on the pillow behind her. She was so tired from giving
birth she couldn’t sit up any more. She turned to see the door of the room fly
open and a very large man rush in. He was an older man with a short white
beard, balding head. His eyes were bright blue as he looked madly around the
room to all the nurses and doctors then to the Zelda.
“My
dear, is it true? You are having the child.” The man panicked.
“Had
daddy had,” She smiled and sat up slowly again and looked over as the nurse
walked over holding the bundle and handing it to the queen. “It is a girl.”
“I
am a grandfather? To a baby girl?” The old man started too bound around
cheering before running out the hall calling out to everyone that he was a
grandfather to a baby girl.
The
castle went in to an uproar with cheers and praise. The news traveled quickly
and the people in the town of Hyrule heard and they too cheered and gave praise
to the new heir to the land of Hyrule. The cheering lasted for the rest of the
day and in to the night as people celebrated in the name of the new princess.
The
queen held her child as the child fed peacefully on her breast. The queen was
very tired from the whole ordeal and was looking forward to a little rest once
the child was full and fell asleep. A few nurses walked in and cleaned more and
checked the baby and the mother to make sure they were healthy before leaving
for the night.
“In
the morning you get to meet the Oracles as we celebrate your birth.” The queen
spoke softly as she watched the baby fall asleep in her arms before moving her
to a bassinet.
She
looked to the window seeing the moon in the distance. She only smiled and
relaxed in her bed. She looked to the bassinet once more hearing her sleeping
child fussed a moment before quieting in it sleep. She too closed her eyes and
succumbed to the darkness of sleep.
In
the morning the castle was full of sound and people running around. Even the
queen was up and getting ready for the day.
She was not moving very fast but she did what she needed to so she could
get ready to meet the Oracles in the Grand Hall.
“Is
everything set? Are the guards in place?” The queen asked servants as she was
walked down the hall.
“Yes,
Zelda, everything is and the guards are in position. No filthy barbarian
Sheikah will get in here to harm the baby.” A woman dressed in a blue gown
fallowed behind the queen.
“Thank
you Mendila. Though watch what you say, they maybe barbaric but our two races
came from the womb of the same goddess.” The queen spoke softly. “And where
they are skilled fighters, we Hylians are skill magic users. They only show hatred
to use for what we have that they can never have.”
Mendila
was a tall woman with maroon eyes and brown blonde hair. Her skin was slightly
darker then the Zelda’s and she had a few features one could only find in the
Sheikah race. She was the queen’s step sister from her father. No family is
perfect and Zelda’s family was no different. After the passing of Zelda’s
mother her father went in to a downward spiral and ended up sleeping with a
young woman, that he kept close, which gave birth to Mendila. She was an heir
to the throne of Hyrule.
“Yes,
you’re Majesty. I will keep in mind your great words of wisdom.” Mendila spoke
softly and stopped watching the queen leave around the corner, “your words
stating their inferiority to the Hylian race.”
The
queen walked in to the grand hall and walked up to her chair at the far end.
Her child was placed right next to her in a cradle. Her father took his seat
next to her as the room filled with different officials from the castle and the
town itself. Lastly the main door opened as three figures slowly walked in.
Each
figure was cloaked with a crush velvet cloak. One wore red, another blue, and
the last green. They were all hunched over slightly and jingled as they walked
from the golden chains that hung over their cloaks along with different
talismans and charms. When they stopped at the foot of the daises the queen sat
on they lifted boney pale hands up pushing their hoods back. They were all very
old and had long crooked noses. Each one looked like the other though their
eyes were solid colored and matched their cloaks.
“Greeting
fair Queen Zelda for one who just birthed your look well, the goddesses must
have blessed you.” The hag in red spoke out first.
“Let
us see the child. Let us see her future. Let us tell of her blessing or
curses.” The blue hag cackled out a bit.
“We
shall see my sisters what path lays ahead of this child. So she may be raise in
preparation of what is to come.” The green had spoke as her eyes looked to
Queen Zelda.
Queen
Zelda stood up and reached down lifting the child from the cradle and walked
slowly to the edge of the daises as a few servants rushed over and helped her
take a step down. She held the child out for the three sisters to take and when
they did they just cooed slightly before dropping the child and their eyes
turning white.
Queen
Zelda shrieked as did her father as he rushed to call the guards and saw that
the baby floating in the middle of the sisters. The sisters reached out and
took each other’s hands as they started to sway back and forth chanting words
of old that no one knew.
“Your
child will grow strong and healthy” the red hag spoke.
“She
will learn quickly and has the potential to be the greatest ruler in these
lands” the blue hag spoke.
“She
will live a long life that will be split in two” the green hag spoke.
“Zelda,
your daughter will bring honor, and peace to the land uniting the races.
However she will start by dishonoring you and your family and bring pain on to
others. When the time comes you will need to decide how to handle the
situation.” All three spoke in unison. “Now that you know, we can take her and
keep her from this future or you can let the path run.”
***Kakariko
Village***
Shenka
got up the next morning with much difficulty as he had to deal with Sheik waking
multiple times during the night to eat or be changed. He washed, dressed fed
himself and Sheik quickly a before he grabbed his son leaving the house. Once
out side he saw the sun was shining and it was getting warm. He walked through
the village through a back exit and in to the cemetery where the town gathered
to pay their last respects to the lost mother.
The
burial was short they spoke prayers and then laid her in to the hole buried
then filled it in over her. She was a great loss to the village and to the
husband and child she had. Shenka stood a little longer before he was greeted
by the village leader and escorted to the center well in the town. When he
walked over her saw three tall figures dressed in robes, one red, one blue, and
one green.
The
figures looked out to him and bowed their head.
The one in red reached out for his child. He stepped back pulling his
son close before swallowing deeply and slowly reaching his son out to them. The
red robed figure grabbed the boy and cradled him softly before walking over to
the well and laid the wrapped babe on the water. The man ran to grab his son from the insane
red robed man before he was stopped by the town leader with a shake of the
head.
The
three robed figures circled the well and reached across taking their hands and
hummed out. They let their hands go and stepped back pulling and reached out of
the floating child dropping flower petal leave, sticks. One pulled out a dagger
and sliced their hand before passing the dagger to the next who did the same
and so on. They let the blood from their hands drip on to the water as they
started to chant out.
“Your
child will grow strong, and healthy.” The red figure spoke.
“He
will learn quickly and has the potential to be the best of the best in this
village.” The blue figure spoke.
“He
will live far past the years of others.” The green figure spoke.
“Shenka,
your son will bring dishonor to you. When the time comes it will be your choice
to light the line, or stand next to him” The three spoke in unison before
backing away from the well. “Take your son, head to the top of Death Mountain.
Remember no one will see that the dragon took the child.”
“No
dragon will take my son.” Shenka walked over and took his son out of the well.
Sheik started to cry. “If he dishonors me I will deal with it when the time
comes.”
The
three figures bow and take their leave through the gates to the cemetery. The
leader of the village walks over and places a hand on Shenka’s shoulder and
smiles for not going. The people in the town left the area and Shenka went back
home to clean Sheik and get him something to eat.
Later
that night Shenka was getting ready for bed, now that he got Sheik to sleep. He
lay back on his bed and looked over to the make shift crib made from a
vegetable crate and blankets. He only smiled and closed his eyes. He had many
years of hardships ahead of him trying to raise a son by himself. And trying to
figure out what his son would do in the village.
***Hyrule
Castle***
Queen
Zelda stood in her room by the window watching the three hags leave before
looking back over to the empty Cradle. She dropped her head lightly before
looking back out the window once more only turning her head lightly as she
heard the door open and her father walking in. She was lost in thought
wondering if she made the right decision or if she made a bad choice.
“Father,
did I do the right thing?” Zelda walked to her bed and sat down. “I know to
take their prediction lightly because anything could change the fate of a
person.”
“My
daughter you did what you felt was right and you fallowed your heart.” Her
father smiled and sat down seeing a servant walk in holding a freshly washed
baby. He smiled and took the baby from the servant’s arms.
“I
guess your right father.” Zelda smiled and looked to her baby sighed in relief
now that her mind was cleared.
“This
young one has many years ahead of her. I suggest you start making plan on what
to teach her. I think fencing and magic would suit her well.” Zelda’s father
spoke with a bright smile
“Father,
my little girl will not wield a blade of any kind.” Zelda giggled before taking
the baby from her father and walking over to the cradle laying her down
“That’s
the same thing your mother said to me when I made my suggestion and look you
learned to fence.” Her father spoke proudly putting his hands on his waist.
“Father
you also had the lesson during the time she was off with her friends so she
wouldn’t know. She did find out after a while.” Zelda laughed watching her
father’s proud face turn sour and frown
“Yea
I know goddesses rest her soul I can still feel the foot print on my ass from
her kicking it.” He laughed
“Daddy,
do not use such language in front of the baby. I don’t want her picking up such
words.” Zelda scolded her father quickly.
“She
is only a day old she won’t be learning to talk any time soon.” Her father
laughed heartedly before heading to the door heading out. “Have a good night my
dear.”
Zelda
only shook her head and got ready for bed herself. She climbed in and got
comfortable watching the cradle a little bit longer before she fell asleep for
the night. Her dreams were sweet but came to a bitter end when the morning sun
slowly pulled itself over the horizon in his blinding glory.
The
next ten years blew by in a blur for the royal family. Baby was named after the
past queens of princess like tradtion. Her
grandfather died in his sleep from a heart attack. Princess Zelda was only five
when she watched her grandfather be buried. Her mother
taught her magic along with the sages. She even learned how to fence, just like
her grandfather wanted, from the captain of the royal guard. She was a quick
learner and was dedicated to her lessons. Queen Zelda saw her grow and knew she
could bring the races of Hyrule together if she
wanted to.
Sheik
the young Sheikah jumped right in to every activity
he could get in one day. He had martial arts training from the leader of the
village. He jumped right in to Ninja training from special teachers in the
village at the age of 10. Lastly he learned weaponry from his own father from
how to use each down to what can best the other and how to break then in
combat.
Life
was great for the lives of these two children who know nothing of each other
till the day when the ribbons of fate twist together. When the oracles and
elders words come true and all those who listen are ready to act.
