A dull pulsing coursed through my body, as if the river I was floating in had managed to penetrate my skin and become the thing with which my body thrived upon. As if it had become my blood. I opened my eyes but there was nothing to see, just a black pit that seemed to mock me. I knew I had failed. That despite all my calculations and my first impression of the S.T.A.R.S survival rate against the B.O.W's created by Umbrella's viruses, two had managed to live and defeat me. Even with my own creation flowing through my veins.
Rage coursed through me, but this time, it didn't feel as if every cell in my body vibrated in response. My skin didn't crawl, my breathing didn't deepen, I continued to stare into abyss. My virus had failed. If there was one thing I returned to over and over again, it was the fact that my lifes work, the reason I had betrayed those that had come to trust me despite all my efforts of staying aloof, had failed me in the end. It could not survive all conditions and most certainly could not regenerate like the G-Virus. So did this mean I was dead? Or was it simply some stage of the virus that was taking a long time to regenerate the damaged cells within me? Either way, I wouldn't survive like this, the rate of damage was greater than the rate of regeneration. I had only to wait until my end, helpless, like all my experiments. The thought of it made the pulsing through me increase dramatically and a pin point of light broke through the darkness. Was that desperation I was feeling? I wouldn't know. I've only ever felt the cold calculation of a plan well executed. Everything had always gone as planned. Until S.T.A.R.S. The goal for S.T.A.R.S had only been to let them live long enough to test the B.O.W's strength. Yet in the end neither were up for the challenge and almost all of them had been wiped out. But as I had collected the information of each encounter, I had begun to tweak the virus' areas of weakness and create more bio organic weapons with better defenses and attacks and with each change they became more violent, smarter, and harder to control. It was glorious to see them evolve, if only the S.T.A.R.S hadn't been almost completely wiped out. "Is that him?" The sound of a females voice reached my conscious, arresting my attention from the reflection of my failed goals, and woke something in me, the will to survive. Though I tried, I could not find the function to call out, to use my superior intellect to convince who ever this was to save me. All I could do was hope that they were an ally or a kind soul who would take pity despite the feelings of disgust that coursed through me at the thought of it. "I guess so, or whats left of him anyways." A second voice responded, a male. As the voices grew louder, their footsteps became apparent, light, agile, dangerous. If they were the clean up crew I was done for. "Well well, how the mighty have fallen. Get him out of there, the virus is still trying to work on him." "What makes you think he's even alive? I mean, the remains are scattered, and all thats left is his head!" The woman sounded disgusted, shamed, and certainly confident that I was dead. There had to be some way to let them know! If they had been the clean up crew they would have finished me here, shoved me back into the river that had eaten away at me to begin with. "Hey, if the virus is still working on him, that means he HAS to be alive!" "Oh shut up brother, it's just terrified of dying so it's going to continue to regenerate that which was lost in hopes of bringing it's host back to life!" Brother? So these two were siblings. "How are we going to get him out of that?" "Grab that and pull him in." "Here we go....great! It's working! Almost there....got him. Okay, bring the tank. No the smaller one. Yeah, okay now put the solution in." The sound of them rummaging about and then a cooling sensation that had the virus thriving through what was left of me brought my full attention to their actions which seemed to consist of placing me in some form of constraint and clicking something close by. They must have placed me in a seat of a helicopter because soon after, the humming of an engine started and then grew louder and louder until finally the vehicle jerked and began to move. I was safe, no matter what these peoples intentions were, they had saved me from complete destruction. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
