The moon hung white and full in the clear cold night, where the stars could be seen so clearly they looked like sparkling diamond son a blanket of blue black velvet or o somegown of some unseen being with the stars as decor The large, thickly boughed pines and yew tree lay covered in frosty icicles and heavy snow from the previous days blizzard. The hills beneath them covered in white and sparking as an occasional wind blew of them drift of misty snow making them glittering in the moons cool lunar light. The occasional winter rabbit skittered across the chilly drifts and slid into a hiding in place in the roots of the trees., A great snowy owl flew through the trees hooting softly, the only sound in the silence of the trees. while other creatures rested in hibernation waiting for spring, dreaming of fresh shoots of grass, mates and fine fat prey.. The castle stood in it ancient grey stones against the valley behind it. The banners of red and gold and bright rich contrast to the dark evening sky, A symbol of a man and a woman touching the claw of mighty dragon sewn into it. TheCaladonian royal symbol s symbol of bonding and strength representing the unique and strong bond of the people and their dragon kindred whose blood they shared.
The place was a symbol of the royal families power and will, thick walls with ten archers stationed and ready watching all sides, and two guards sets in every entryway, and even a few patrolling the hills each had a dragon sitting upon their shoulders ever vigilant. Inside the stonewalls, t was silent only the occasion snorting of the dogs who slept here and there, through out the halls or at the foot of the bed behind thick wooden doors. In one particular room the walls were high and arched and soft shadows which were made warm by the soft light of a gentle fire in a large stone fireplace dragon heads with fierce looking fangs and claws along the pillaars, pointing outwards as the soft yellow orang lgith of the constantly shifittng flames. Casting shadows over them making them look alive. Thick velvet curtains hung over a large window, which was in the direction of the sea, a mere mile away
. A small sliver of bright pale starlight filtered in washing over the tall canopy bed, which had bright red gold colors with a bright gold silk trim. The bed itself was quite large the blankets where velvet s red as the canopy that surrounded it the blankets thick with feathery down tonight against the winters chill. Within this soft comfortable bed, the sounds of sniffling and crying of a child could be heard. A tiny white hand a appeared awkwardly pulling part of the canopy curtain back, then put came the face of a tiny pale skinned girl, her large dark green eyes bright with tears that fell down her soft round cheek, her brownish gold hair in a disarrayed mess as she sniffled her soft lips trembling, the little dragon that had been sleeping in with were glided out in fortifier. She awkwardly got herself out of her large bed her tiny feet hitting the floor quietly her nightgown billowed around her feet
Lilith had the bad dream again, where everyone had left her in the dark with the monster man she had tried to run but couldn’t, she had felt his icy cold hand son her shoulder, then the big red bird came. It was so big she had been even more scared of it then the monster man it chased away. It was strange usually her big knight came to save her, he didn't come, She looked at her dragon sister who chirped it her slit bronze eyes glowing in the fir light. “Let’s go find mama Silva.” She said hiccupping and sniffling again. She had stopped crying but now had the hiccups, but ignored it, she needed her mama, she picked up the silver scaled dragon ling holding her like a cat IN return the little dragon nuzzled her sisters cheek licking as the tears stains o n her cheek. Lilith pushed her large door open as much as she could, the fire light spilling out through the crack of the opened door out into he dark cold corridor. She hated the dark, he mind always brought image of scary things, hiding in the dark. She held Silva closer to her, she had to go see he mama, and beside she had her dragon sister with her, she would be fine. She slipped out quickly shutting the door quietly. So as not to wake the servants who slept in the small adjacent room to hers would hear. She shivered as her feet touched the cold stones, it was very cold night, she quickly padded down the dark hallway, her bare feet slapping against the stones the only sound she could hear. When she at last reached the door she felt safe, the delicate carvings of plants and flowers surrounding the border of the door she pushed the door open carefully and stepped inside the door behind her the door, taking in the scent of her mothers bedroom, she loved the delicate scent of peony’s the, it was her mother's scent.
She tiptoed to the bed, and pushed the canopy curtain back revealing her mother, her long greenish brown hair in long soft raid, her delicate dark lashes closed her soft slender cheeks her breathing soft, “mama?” Lilith whispered her body tense waiting for her mother to wake; her mother shifted her eyes slowly fluttering open, the same dark green eyes, with large flecks of silver through them, the same as Lilith's. “Lilith?” she said as she lit candle blinking her eyes blearily yawning, her daughter standing n front of her, mussed up hair and all “what is the matter?” she asked holding up her candle, seeing that her daughter had been crying, her eyes red rimmed and puffy “I had a scary dream. Her daughter said meekly biting her lips as tears filled her eyes again, he rmother placed the candle down, as the wide eyed girl looked up at her mother sniffling and hiccupping She wiped her daughters cheeks. “Don’t worry my darling lily said the green eyed queen stroking her young daughters head soothingly with a pale slender hand. “It was simply a bad dream my love.” The girl snuggled against her feeling the warmth of her mothers skin, and the sure and steady beat f her heart. It was so soft and gentle like birds wings.
Her long, hair lsoft as silk, shimmered in the moonlight of the cold, winter night, lilith always loved to take in the soft floral scent that was always in he mother hair, like a warm scarf envfolding her. She held onto a part of it and put it againsr ther cheek.. It only took a moment or too but any remaining fear or anxiety she felt was soothed and vanished. She leaned against Fae letting the intimacy of another and child take over,”feel better now?’ She mother whispered to her softly. Lillith smiled and nodded.” there, we go ' her mother said smiling warmly softly Lilith looked at her mother and smiled lovingly hugging her mother close. Fae rocked her only child in her arms gently. “ Mama?” she asked softly her large deep green eyes wide wit questioning making the small sliver stars with in them brighter. Her mother closed her eyes of same hue, the same Silver Star speckling smiling warmly. “Yes my girl?” she asked her shifting her daughters weight on her lap. “ What is a phoenix?” the question made the graceful lady pause in her tender cuddling to look at he r daughter her true emotions of surprise and confusion hidden. “It is a bird a great bird of flames ad fire, its considered very beautiful; why do you ask?” The tiny girl shivered as a frosty breeze came blowing through. The palace seeping into her bones “w-well I heard someone in my dream say that word… she shuddered, cuddling closer to her mother enveloped in her warmth “but it sound s like monster to me>” she stated as Silva: snuggled between the two making lilt giggle and wriggled around a bit.” Her mother blinked at her then smiled at her dragon sister who had climbed up her sleeping gown to rest tint he warmth between them. “Maybe my darling but…a phoenix is a very special bird that the gods themselves respect. A symbol of life and beauty” She placed her daughter down and grasped the lit candle guiding her daughter back toher room. the chilly air of the hall seeming to not bother her at all despite only being in a thin silken night gown of paleceladon green, match well wither pallid skin and strange brown hair. Her daughter stared at her wit hw idea eyed winder “really?” she said breathlessly as her mother slowly opened the door to her now dimly lit room. Yes they do>” she placed lilth down and restoked the fire makig the room warm and bright again.
“In fact it is considered good luck in dream to see a phoenix, it means your very lucky~” The tiny girl smiled “maybe my knight welcome then.” She said softly as he mother tucked her in smoothing down her warm blankets the little dragon, a small thing maybe the size of her mother’s hand, crawled over to her bond sisters side settling into he covers, the firelight catching on her bright silver scaled her bronze eyes bright as amber. “Your knight?” her mother asked as she stroked her hair. The tiny girl nodded sleepily, “the knight in green with a blue bug around it, her daughter blushed. Fae didn’t take her eyes off her daughter, could it mean....“can you tell me about him?” the drowsy child smiled her eyes becoming heavier, he’s tall, a big person like you mama: she shifted In he bed, his hair is bright like the sun, Lilith giggled softly “ he’s very handsome and wields a really shiny sword.” She yawned again “and he always come sot save me, in my bad dreams” she frowned “but he didn’t come this time.” Her mother wanted to ask e more about this mysterious green knight, but Lilith was already fast asleep as was little Silva. She smiled and stroked her soft golden hair, “sleep well my little flower.” Her mother whispered kissing the top her head drawing the curtain closed. She stood up gracefully and walked to the desk where her candle was left, as she went o take it she noticed some drawings on it.
The first was of her the pieces of colored charcoal strewn about the top of the desk, the first picture was of her and her long green braid, a bunch of tiny circle s in long line, while the rest of her was a very simplified version of her self, but it definitely look accurate, her eyes were the same color green, she even had lashes, her lips a bright red, she chuckled softly, her daughter could be a artist if she wasn't a princess. Then she paused a picture that struck a cord in her heart, the mage showed a tiny version of Lilith with Silva looking sad, while the other children pointed and laughed, Te dragon queen bit her lip, she knew the rumors that were said about her, because she was a foreigner, some said she was a witch who enchanted the king had a child, that was typical of nobles who vied for the throne. The also said she was a demon.
A whore, she ignored them, but when they began to say Lilith was a bastard, a demon pawn. That hit home, Lilith was a the greatest gift she had ever received in her time since she traded her goddss form for one of fleshand blood. Nuch ofher power was diminished, however certainthings could nt be hidden, her bright emerald hair for instance, the strange color that didn;thide completely nomatter hw dark brown she tried to make it.her daughter and husband the only ones whoshe dyed at all., she was the only thing that meant anything to her when having to deal with politics, running the government and trying to avoid making enemies in he castle, her daughter sweet presence made the strife and stress more bearable, having adults say such things were terrible, but their children were even worse, always saying horrible things about her and excluding her from their games, or worse making her play the monster. She was certain the young hylian boy of destiny was treated the same, had chosenhimas her piece bearer out of pity forhis dyingmother whose lastsight hadbeenhiminforntof the delu tree. The by was a bit timid and cried frmthe mockery even at age8 andbeigna boy. The young kokikir made dote donhim far too much, oor at lteast she thought.
But Lilith never showed them a sad face, she was too proud for that, even though Fae knew deep within, their insults and exclusion hurt her deeply. She stroked the hand drawn image of her daughter tenderly, guilt gripping her heart, How she wished her husband was here now, but the great dragon king Fieon of the mitchondial bloodline, was away on a trip to the twili realm, he had been for the past two weeks, she knew allying with the twli would be helpful incase something truly catastrophic occurred, it was a pity the king had killed himself, leaving his teenaged daughter to ascend the throne, Midna was her name, Fae could only hope she did a better job ruling ten her mad father did. The thought of how selfish a parent must be to end their lives like that leaving their child alone was simply unforgivable to the green eyed queen. She closed her eyes taking a deep breath as her rapidly beating heart slowed just thinking about Lilith in this world without at only three or four, was terrifying to the graceful lady, she looked to her daughter who slept quietly, innocently, she hoped that her innocence would last forever. But she knew it couldn't, she sighed Never was she was s she more grateful for the friendship of hyrules princess, Zelda a lovely hylian girl, with pale blonde hair and amethyst eyes and of course the pointed, slender ears of their race. She knew her elder sister nayru was very fond of them, as fond as she was of the zoras.
She always had a smile for Lilith when the visited, or when she came to visit here, From the time the two met about a year ago, the had become close as sisters, a truly special bond. But the heavy snows and ice had kept them away most of the winter, Lilith asked her daily when her friend would come, she gave a heavy sigh stroking the image of her daughter one last time. Then looked to her daughters other pieces of art. One was of her soon to be arm instructor with his large powerful arms, and his green dragon in its large form. It was tradition that all Caladoian nobles knew how to fight, it ha concerned Fae at first, Lilith was a sweet gentle young girl, but then she was also a fighter, the most recent example was of a boy maybe three years old them her and definitely taller then her, some duke’s son from the west part of the country, a horrible, spoiled child, he had knocked her feet out from under her, making her fall face first in icy mud. When he a few other children who had been watching the spectacle laughed, Lilith had gotten up and lauched herself at the boy knocking him tithe ground and began hitting him. That had been about a month ago before the snows became too heavy. The boy ended up broken nosed by the time Lilith was pulled off of them the other children were calling her a demon spawn, thankfully she had so much mud on her face, her tears were very hard to see, Zelda had helped clean her face, her mouth quirked then Lilith had gone to apologize to the boy, he had neither rejected nor accepted her apology just sat their in sullen silence, his arms crossed, lip poked out, pride wounded, She had made her mother proud, not for the violence but courage she had shown, she was trulyher daughter.
And a nose frame on his face to help his nose heal straight. Fae chuckled at eh memory. Yes, her daughter would be a fine pupil for the arms master, he adored the little princess like a daughter seems the feelings were mutual, she looked trough a few more each images, and image of her, her husband and Lilith together with both dragons made her heart melt. The latest she made caused her to freeze it looked like a hylian man with light blue eyes, blonde hair and a green tunic. She even drew the master sword purple pommel and all. Beside the young hylian, was an image of her daughter, with he little dragon only large right beside him with a star shaped symbol over where her heart would be? In fiery orange yellow and red, a jewel of flames, her hand trembled, The final image made her heart lurch and sink, in the brightest yellow color drawing charcoal was the triforce, enfolded by large red wings. This confirmed her fear.
She put the piece of parchment down and took the candle leaving the room “so…seems that the heart has already been given.” As she returned dot her chambers the servants she knew were watching from their chambers beside her daughters, thinking they would be cursed, She could do no such thing, and wouldn't, she may have known magic, as one of the three goddesses of the triforce shehad to but dark arts were something dishonorable to her as it opposed the very life force she had channledto make order.
She squared of her shoulders and held up her candle and walked back to her chambers, a tear ran down her cheek, knowing her daughter’s future and the pain she would endure would be even worse then what she dealt with now but perhaps her pain would be shared. Even if it couldn’t be avoided, "so it begins,” she thought as she closed the door to her chambers, snuffing out her candle.
