So, this is my first fiction in years since I was a teenager. So be prepared for some choppiness, please be gentle with me but constructive criticism is welcome! First chapter is stupid story to lead up to it, but the sex is coming I promise.
Her mind wandered back to the innumerable days and nights she spent in a fur bedroll, deep within the wilderness of Tyria. Nights spent cowering trying to cover the smoke from a tiny fire in Risen infested areas to try to eat and stay warm. A loud obnoxious laugh nearby startled her from daydreaming of times past, she looked out on the serene view of Divinity's Reach. She sat quietly in the grass against a stone pillar, gazing on the royal quarter of the human city. It all seemed so transparently perfect and it made her heart choke up in homesickness for Hoelbrak. No one there acted like they were so good they needed their own district, high above the average citizen's life...
“Miss Talahe?” A male voice jolted her awake from her thoughts. She looked quickly to her right where the voice came from, her bear lying next to her jumping up and growling at her alarm.
“Kare, down.” She said reactionary and looked up at her visitor. She recognized him immediately. Queen Jenna's pet and also from association with Eir, her group frequented with him. She couldn't remember his name, hopefully he would introduce himself.
“Do you remember me from the Queen's Jubilee? I was there, but you took over once I retreated to protect the Queen.”
“Ah...” She quietly pretended to think and ignored his intent gaze. She remembered the Aethergard overtaking the Jubilee and her quick response in defeating them, and this man starting it beforehand by making some show of fighting the Queen's new mechanism that had been rigged by the enemy.
“I do remember you...uh...” She looked up at him again, wincing mentally inside at his apparent joy to see her.
“Logan. Logan Thackery?” His hopeful blue eyes did not seem to diminish much at his needing to announce himself, which made her perk up a bit.
“Yes. Logan. It is nice to see you again.” She implemented her nicest manners to try to make up for her blunder, and stood up and faked a smile for him.
“What is one of Tyria's greatest adventurers doing here in Divinity's Reach?” He moved closer to her, his silver armor gliding so soundlessly she didn't hear it creak, as an attempt she guessed to be more friendly.
“I'm...taking a break, a vacation I guess.” She looked at him standing a person's width across from her and listening intently to her.
“Oh? I was wondering where you went after the Jubilee. I know it ended just a few days ago, and you've been here since?”
“Yes, I have been.”
“How nice! Where are you staying, in the inn?” She wondered why he was being so curious.
“No, I'm staying outside of the city. I'm paying to stay in someone's empty cottage.” She answered coldly, hoping he would loose interest. She felt odd the way he kept looking into her face with his unflinching blue eyes.
“I will have to come visit you sometime. It's not often a Norn takes up residence around here, I'm sure the village closest to you is a buzzing with gossip. Where is it?”
Well, he was right about that. She usually tried to find in the forests and lake nearby any food she needed as the villagers gawked and whispered when she came into the town to try to buy anything. It's why she went to Divinity's Reach, different races were more commonplace and if someone did recognize her there it was because she was a “hero” not a strange race.
“'You are right there, it's why I come here to buy any goods I need. At least the worst I get here is “You're the hero who saved the Jubilee!” And it's on the lake right outside of town.”
“I know where you're talking about. No one would buy that cottage because of it's distance from a road and it's proximity to the bandit's hideout. But a group of bandits wouldn't scare you away.” He smiled politely and she cracked a small smile.
“I go out there occasionally to check if the townspeople are being harassed by the bandits. Maybe i'll see you around” He reached out and touched her shoulder gently in goodbye, she could feel him looking at her face and she avoided eye contact. She felt awkward with his hand on her, she barely knew him.
“I need to go back to my patrol. I'm glad to see you're well and getting some time to relax. You deserve it.”
“Goodbye.” She responded curtly to his back as he walked away, glad he had gone.
