A/N: This is a short little story revolving around Serena's journey, basically. A review is always nice, but don't be an asshat just because you're a reader and I'm the writer.
Terminus Cave
The road leading in to the Terminus Cave had been long and rough. She hadn't had a single clue that there would be such a huge population of trainers within. Having barely taken three steps within the cave, she had been greeted with the so called cave guardian. A young man with short blonde hair and the attire of what she had now begun calling hikers. It was a whole other story from the gym leaders she had faced so far. Having just made her way from the seventh gym, where she had fiercely fought against the psychic type trainer Olympia, she had been in a great rush to check out the cave that almost every trainer she had passed had been talking about. "It's no use... There's something down there... Too many strong trainers..." That had just been the gist of it, though for every step she had taken within the cave, a great sense of adventure had come to rest within her. For every trainer she had taken down, she could feel herself growing in strength.
By the time she had entered what she liked to call the second floor, even though she always felt like she was walking down, her team had grown far stronger than when she had entered. By now, the only trainers she met were those that could be called black belts which specialized in fighting types. One in particular had proven himself far stronger than the rest, wiping out half of her team with a single Pokémon before she had finally taken him down. Having gotten her winnings, she had taken the final step that would lead her over to one of the few bridges within the cave, one that looked far too new for anything else to be possible, but who would go out of their way just to make a bridge deep underground? The question had reverberated through her mind as she had kept moving through the tunnels and caves.
The deeper she went, the fewer trainers she had encountered, having declined to simply encountering miners that were tapping away at different mineral sources scattered along the walls. Occasionally overhearing someone yelling with joy as they found a rare stone or merely something they could sell for some decent coin. Yet as her legs carried her through the darkened corners of the cavern, through a steep downward slope, she came to an abrupt halt as she heard a far too familiar voice behind her yell out her name. "Serena!" While she herself stood with the exact same attire she had worn when the two of them set out from Aquacorde Town so many months ago. With an abrupt shake of her head, Serena cleared away the unwanted thoughts that did nothing more than disturb her. She did NOT want Calem to dominate her. Finally, after what felt like a whole day of walking through the cavern, Calem gave her a light nod as he raised his left leg up to lean his left arm on it.
With another sigh, Serena pulled her knees up to her chest with her arms wrapped around her legs to keep warm. "Alright... I want to know what you're doing down here, but apparently, you don't feel like answering that one... So how about this... What have you been up to lately?" To her immense surprise, Calem instantly opened his mouth as if to answer her question, though the second she did, he snapped his mouth shut as if in deep thought. Giving him a few more minutes to think things through, Serena leaned her head against the wall as she awaited his response. When another small eternity had passed between the two of them, Serena pushed her head away from the wall as her patience had grown thin, yet the sight that greeted her was far different than what she had seen a few minutes prior. Beside her sat Calem, the boy she had gotten to know six months prior as she had gone out on her journey, but at the same time, there was something new about him. The deep brown eyes that had been the one remaining familiar feature, other than his brown hair, had shifted. Gone were the innocent brown eyes that belonged to her silent friend, instead, what she now saw made her eyes widen in surprise. Calem sat with his head against the wall with his eyes facing the ceiling. Yet the eyes she saw were far from the familiarity of Calem. His deep brown eyes had shifted and become a bright green. And when he cast his gaze over to her, his lime green eyes staring into the depths of her soul, she knew it as a fact that this person wasn't Calem.
