“Are you really going to die like this?”
It was a strange question, and it was asked by an unfamiliar voice. “What are you talking about, why would I die?” He asked the voice back, he had plans this summer, he was going back to the islands he always visits with Riku and Kairi, plus he still had a long life ahead of him, why would he die?
Sora slowly opened his eyes, everything was a blur and there was a blindingly bright light, he blinked his eyes a few times and let out a groan. In the haze he could see a shadow rush up to him, was it a heartless? He could hear a voice call out him, it seemed unnaturally slow and deep, “So…..Ra, So…..Ra.
He wasn’t sure what was going on but he felt tired and needed more sleep.
He heard the same unfamiliar voice again in his head, “Hey dumbass, are you going to be like that forever? What a waste.”
“Shuddup!” Sora called back, “Let me get a bit more shleep. Watt’s it have to do with you anyway?” Sora asked defiantly to the other if a bit slurred.
He was answered with silence, Sora felt a small satisfaction from shutting up the annoying voice. He fell back asleep again.
“Soraaaaa…. Soraaaaaa… Sora! Can you hear me? I’m here with you. I believe in you.” The voice had a more familiar tone to it, but his memory couldn’t put a name to the voice.
Sora blinked open his eyes again, he wanted to say he was fine, but he could only let out a groan. He felt a small dull throb in his head, but other than that, he felt pretty good, he was relaxed.
“Sora!” The voice called his name in relief, “You’re awake!” He heard the familiar laugh from his best friend Riku. He felt Riku hug him tightly around his chest and gently squeeze his hand, “can you hear me?” Riku finally asked with concern in his voice.
“Yeah, I hear youuuu. What are youu sho worried abat?” His speech was slurred and he felt like he was high. “I shound funny, what ish going on, where am I?” Something was clearly wrong with him, his vision was still out of focus and why was Riku being so affectionate?

Riku let out a sigh, it makes sense he wouldn’t know what happened, it was all so sudden. “Sora, you had died. Well, legally you died, but the doctors here were able to save you, though you were put into a coma from it, that was about two weeks ago. Luckily, you seem to have finally recovered from it, so the worst is passed.”
There was a small pause as Sora seemed to sort out what was just said to him, “It may be a lot to process, but it seems you are ok.” Riku tried to encourage him, “You didn’t seem to suffer any major injury, we aren’t sure what could have happened to put your life so at risk.”
Riku let a tear fall as it gently landed on Sora’s arm, he had been so worried about Sora, and after all they had gone through together, for him to just die like that? Riku, had to shake the thought, he couldn’t think about a world where Sora didn’t exist. “I’m just glad you are getting better now. Don’t ever have another scare like that again.” He gave the brunette another gentle squeeze. “I’ll call Kairi, she went to Burger Go to grab some food.” Riku stepped out of the room to call Kairi to tell her the news.

Sora’s vision was finally returning to him as his eyes were finally adjusting to looking at something not the back of his eye lids. He could see two different IV’s connected to him, the news came as a shock, the last thing he can remember was having some sea salt ice cream and chatting with Riku and Kairi, they were making plans about visiting their usual spot on the island.
Everything after seemed to go blank, he pressed his palm against his forehead and shook his head, thinking after just waking from a coma was too hard.
“Man, this is seriously boring, and I’m hungry, you need to eat something man.”
Sora was puzzled by the voice, he looked around the room but no one was there, he seriously needed to get out of the hospital, it starting to make him go crazy. Two weeks of just lying down in a bed was too long.
“Hey, don’t just ignore me, I’m talking to you, the least you can do is respond.”
Sora rubbed his eyes, was he becoming schizophrenic, the voice was coming from inside his head, maybe it was drugs; the hospital had to of given him something while he was in a coma. As soon as he was out of the hospital things would be normal again.
“Sora, sorry buddy but you can’t just ignore me forever, I mean, c’mon, I’ve just been sitting inside this sleeping body for two weeks, I need something to keep me from going insane.”
Funny for this voice to be talking about insanity, he was seriously starting to lose it himself. Why was he even listening to it, the least he could do was push it back and just ignore it, where was RIku anyway, it’s been like 5 minutes already. He sighed, but finally relaxed as he seemed to have silenced that voice.
“Sora! C’mon man, I need something to keep me company! I mean, is this how it’s gonna…”
“Shut up!” Sora yelled out loud, the stupid voice just needed to shut up, he couldn’t possibly be losing it at 16 years old.
“Sora are you ok?” A worried voice asked him, it was Kairi.
Sora’s face turned beat red after realizing what had just happened, “Ummm, sorry I think I am going crazy being stuck in here, and with the drugs I think I’m pretty high.” He hoped he could just play it off and pretend it never happened.
Luckily, Riku was there to assist him, “Don’t worry Kairi, I’d go nuts too if I was bed ridden for an entire two weeks. Could you imagine seeing me just lying in a single bed for that long?”
Kairi giggled a little, but wasn’t entirely convinced, “Anyway, hope you are in the mood for a double cheeseburger. Something to help fill you up.” She reached into the bag and handed him a wrapped burger with a smile, “Glad you are finally awake, you had us so worried Sora. You better not do anything like that again.” She leaned over and gave him a hug, “Get out of here quick, we don’t want to spend our summer vacation like this.”
Sora let out a little laugh, “Yeah, I can’t wait to get out of here, I think I’m already glued to the bed.”
“I can’t wait to be out of here as well.”
Sora ignored the voice. It was bound to go away soon, and he couldn’t play into his drugged imagination to keep it around longer. Sora moaned as he took a large bite into his burger, it was just what he needed, good greasy food to fill an empty hole.
A nurse walked in while he was enjoying his meal, “Glad to see you are finally awake, hope you had a good sleep,” she flashed him a smile. She quickly looked over the numbers on the equipment, and marked things down on her notepad and then looked up at the brunette, “Everything seems normal, blood pressure, white cell counts, we tested everything under the sun and everything seems normal. Whatever happened we can’t really seem to be sure, just try to be sure to take care of yourself and be careful, alright? We will be monitoring you until tomorrow to make sure everything remains stable and healthy, then you should be free to go.” She promptly walked out to look at the next patient on her list.
“Nice of her to ask how you feel.”
Sora could only growl in his head, the voice should mind his own business.
“You don’t disagree with me do you? Should be the first thing she said. Granted, you were stuffing your face with a large burger.” The voice said with a laugh.
“Hello!? Earth to Sora.” Sora, was brought out of his internal discussion from Kairi trying to get his attention. “Was the burger that good? You seemed to have been really conflicted despite the good news that you can finally get out of this place tomorrow.”
“What’s your house like, hopefully it will be better than here, and your friends seem interesting at least.”
Sora grinned at Kairi and Riku, “We need to get out and have some fun first thing tomorrow. Need to eat out and have some ice cream, we also have to actually plan to go to our island.”
“You have an island?”
“Of course I do,” Sora answered out loud, he paused after realizing what he just said, “I mean, of course, I can’t do too much for a little while, should make sure I’m all good to paddle out to it.” Sora gave a nervous laugh and big smile as he saw the other two give him quizzical looks. The voice just sounded so real to him, he had difficulty distinguishing it as just a voice in his head.
“Anyway,” Riku decided he should speak up, “We’ll definitely get some ice cream tomorrow, but it seems visiting hours is about to close. I think Kairi and I better head back home, we will be sure to pick you up tomorrow morning, don’t sleep in too late now.” He gave Sora a wave and a smile as he exited, Kairi giving him a similar good bye.
“Be sure to be completely better tomorrow. It was really nice to see you finally awake.” She smiled and left the room behind Riku.
Sora, let out a deep sigh, he must be losing it, to respond to that voice like that, what’s wrong with him?
“It was nice of you to finally talk to me, can’t wait for tomorrow to get to know your friends more and hear about your plans to go to your own island, though I can’t imagine it being as cool as it sounds.”
Sora let out a groan as he pressed both his hands against his forehead and arched his back up, trying to add more pressure to his head in a vain attempt to squeeze the voice out. ‘What the hell is wrong with me?’ Sora asked himself.
“Nothing, I am now a part of you, you are totally fine, except for the coma and you almost dying, just think of me as your friend, or something much closer.” The voice seemed to be teasing him, “I’m Roxas by the way.”
Great now the voice was naming itself, Sora was definitely losing it.
“I’m not just a damn voice, I’m a person, I’m just without being. Right now, I am just Nobody. But I do have a damn body, I can show you it, I think.”
Sora had an idea, maybe because he was backed up he was going crazy, he heard that it could be dangerous if you didn’t relieve yourself after long periods, and it had been a long time since he had gotten off. Maybe that would make the voice go away.
The voice seemed to pick up on what he was planning, “I know your thoughts like you know mine, it won’t work and that is weird, you don’t care that another guy is in your head and will have to witness it? I mean, I don’t mind, I will experience whatever you experience. Like I said, we are much closer than friends."
Sora didn’t really get what all this voice was talking about, most of it didn’t make sense, he sighed in frustration, ‘just stop, I can’t be thinking about these ridiculous things, I’m not crazy.’
"You aren’t, but you are making me crazy, let me prove to you that I’m real and you aren’t crazy." The voice almost seemed to have smirked.
Sora relented, the voice did feel real to him, and in the end what did he have to lose, if he was losing his mind it didn’t matter anyway. Sora relaxed his tensed body and waited patiently for this proof.
