Bailey propped Jesse on her hip as she stirred the pot on the stove, smiling. She looked at her son, who was sucking on his pacifier, happily cooing as he clung to his mother. She smiled, put the lid on the soup, then carried him to his high chair where she gave him some milk and food. He happily made a mess, not a care in the world. Bailey cleaned him up before putting him in his play area and sat down herself, tired.
She heard her mother come home, and looked up, "Mom? Can you finish that soup?"
"Are you tired?"
"Yeah...this medicine makes me tired..."
"We're absolutely talking to the doctor. Oh, remember that couple next door? They're adopting the twins."
"...Wow, they put him up for adoption after that tragedy rather fast."
"Yes, but the couple next door will take care of them, you know Victoria!"
Smiling to herself, Bailey did know, having realized something was wrong with Bailey before even Bailey herself fully understood. She leaned forward. Still a teenager, with Schizophrenia, and a one-year-old baby, but she tried so damn hard. She could feel herself dozing off as she watched her mother pick up Jesse and give her a blanket.
"We'll talk to the doctor and see if she can't put you on anything else."
She nodded and drifted off to sleep.
"Think this one will work..."
"It better or you are switching doctors."
Smiling a small bit, Bailey looked down at Jesse, asleep in his stroller. He was cuddled against his stuffed duck, making her smile. He continued to sleep as they went on their walk from the pharmacy to the apartments. They ran into a couple friend of theirs.
"Victoria, did you two get those forms sent in?"
"Even better, they have a set of twins who need a home ASAP!"
"Right now!?"
"No no, next week, they're coming to us next week!"
Bailey looked out the window the following week, picking up Jesse's crayons when she noticed the car next door, parked with two car seats on the ground, and a severe looking woman who was checking on them before taking them inside the house. She blinked a couple times, and continued on, finally hitting her what she just saw.
"Oh...hell. Mom! Mom! I think the neighbor's twins are here!"
Her mother lifted her head from the dishes, turning to see her and smiled, "Well it's about time! THey'll be over tonight, you watch."
It wasn't just that night, the twins were over quite often, two boys, Armin and Alexy. Bailey had fun watching the twins interact with her son, seeing how the two age groups were around the other. She noticed that as they grew, one of the twins, she thought Alexy, would follow Jesse around. The toddler would turn around, and look at him before turning back to look at his mother. She smiled at him, looking at the TV before getting up to fix the kids some supper.
Once finished, she put Alexy, Armin, and Jesse in their high chairs, giving them the soft food she made for dinner. She sat down with them, watching as Jesse absolutely destroyed whatever she put in front of him.
Smiling at the twins, Jesse happily looked at his mother, the only woman who mattered to him. She wiped his face, then moved on to the twins, smiling as she done so. He smiled at her.
She gently put the three of them to bed that night, humming gently to herself, knowing she had them all tonight, not minding it one bit. She got ready for bed herself, sitting on the mattress and taking her medication. She still didn't trust the damn pills, but if she hadn't had Jesse, then she wouldn't have taken them. She put them down next to the glass of water and picked up her newly acquired bible.
