As Starr prowled through the fortress, she caught sight of the wary gazes the other elves were casting her way. She didn’t care. Let them be confused, worried…disappointed in her…whatever it was that they felt.
For months she’d been trapped here, subject to their judging eyes. While they still treated her with respect to her face, she knew the whispers they were uttering behind her back. She felt that it was all but common knowledge that she would eventually be discharged.
Inwardly she raged. She raged at all of them. The dark elf who’d shot her. The High Command who had abandoned her. Even the common, lowly guards who silently judged her when her back was turned.
And Einao.
Her anger with him had been building slowly over the past two months but now it had reached it’s boiling point.
Reaching their shared quarters, she flung the door open and stormed in. She grabbed a few things, clothes and toiletries, a spare set of armor, her own set of daggers, not that she used them much anymore, shoved everything into a few rucksacks and spun around to leave.
Her angered gaze fell on Einao, who was watching her from the still open doorway.
“I take it you’re leaving.” He stated, his voice flat. Coming away from the door, he made way for her to exit. “Where will you be staying?” He knew that she could stay in the barracks, but Aelaru had also set up private lodging for her that she was free to use.
“Does it matter?” She grumped as she pushed past him. Knowing that he could easily track her down, she bit out. “The private cabin. I want to be left alone.” She shot him a dark look over her shoulder. Not only did she want to be left alone, she needed to be left alone in order to prepare. Taking out the dark elf was going to be a dangerous undertaking and she needed to be sure that she planned this out right. Or else it would go horribly wrong, and many people would lose their lives. Including her.
Einao said nothing, watching her go. He wanted to go after her, but he knew that now was not the time. She needed to cool off. Frustrated, he also left their formerly shared quarters and went to find Baelmara. He needed a drink and Baelmara made the best drinks in the fortress.
While Einao went in pursuit of drink to calm his nerves, Starr rested in the cramped, one and half room cabin that’d been allotted to her when she’d first arrived. Laying on the small bed, one of only two substantial furnishings in the cabin, the other being a table, she contemplated her mission for the night.
It would be a dangerous undertaking, putting many people at extreme risk. However, if it allowed her to prove herself to the High Command, it would be worth it.
She warred with herself. It wasn’t just dangerous, it was flat out wrong and against all common sense as well as orders. But she couldn’t very well prove herself by killing a bound captive. He had to be loose. Which meant she would have to release him. With a heavy sigh, she resigned herself to that fact and simply resolved to kill him as quickly as possible. She’d already decided on her excuse for why and how he’d gotten loose. Sighing again, she relaxed as much as possible and tried to go to sleep. She knew she needed to get plenty of rest before battling the dark elf.
Meanwhile, Shin rested against the wall he was pinned to. Focusing on the bird, he used the magic connection to the avian to see through it’s eyes as it flew over the fortress. He’d been doing this extensively the past couple of weeks prior to allowing the light elves to capture him. Through this method, he’d gained extremely good knowledge of the layout of the entire fortress.
Now, he was using the bird to see all of the recent changes that had been made as a result of the losses the light elves had suffered, both by his own hands and that of the rogue dark elves. His only regrets about the raven were that it could not be in multiple places at once, nor could he understand any conversation that it happened to come into hearing range of. He’d seen Starr and her sentry argue and watched her leave with a small number of haversacks. Clearly she wasn’t going to be returning anytime soon.
He was satisfied that she’d left the sentry, almost proud. She didn’t need the buffoon. It’d been clear to him early on that the sentry would never amount to anything more than that, and she was a decorated ranger, even if the light elven High Command had forgotten that. The two truly held nothing in common.
Using the raven’s sight, he watched the two split up. She headed off in the direction of a much smaller building located near the fort’s outer walls while the sentry made his way to a tavern-like establishment. The raven followed her at his command, but once she entered the smaller dwelling, the bird lost sight of her. It flew around the cabin, looking for a window, but found none. With a sigh and a muffled curse, Shin allowed the spell that connected him to the raven to dissipate. He decided that it was probably safe to assume that he wouldn’t see either of them for at least a day or two and settled in for the wait. He had already decided that on the fourth day, he would make his escape.

Starr awakened slowly, stretching on the small bed. As the last vestiges of sleep left her, she strained her ears to hear as much as possible outside. The general lack of sound informed her that it was late at night. Standing, she looked over her supplies and grabbed a small loaf of bread with some cheese and a water skein.
Sitting at the small table, she began sorting through the various scrolls that she’d collected over the years. Many were outdated maps, scribblings of notes, names of various people she’d come across during her travels, some trustworthy, some not. But she wasn’t interested in those. She was searching for some scrolls that contained magic. Single use scrolls that had been inscribed with various useful spells and magics. She’d once known a prophet who’d used magic inks to imbue the scrolls with binding spells, meant to hold a person in place.
Those scrolls were more powerful than her own magic and she felt sure that she may need them to make her initial escape from the dark elf. Finding the scrolls in question, along with a few others that might prove useful, she gathered them up and placed them in her satchel. She donned her leather armor and cloak, setting a quiver of arrows at her back. After strapping her two daggers to her thighs, she hefted her bow and left the cabin.
Outside, there was hardly anyone around. A few guards were strolling on patrol, but they paid her little heed. Her main worry was Einao. Sometimes he would randomly take a night shift.
Moving quickly, she made her way to the brig. Once there, she ordered the guards on duty to leave. They hesitated but ultimately did as she’d commanded.
Inside the brig, Shin’s ears perked in interest. As the door swung open, he drawled out unconcernedly, although no less curiously. “Back so soon, hrea?” His eyes narrowed as he took in her change of attire, the daggers at her thighs, and more concerningly, the massive bow she held tightly in her grip. He tensed, his voice becoming tightly controlled. “And what exactly do you think you’re going to do, min hrea?” He had absolutely no intention of allowing her to fire the bow at him. His muscles tensed and bunched in preparation to launch a swift pre-emptive attack.
Starr glared at him, refusing to speak.
Shin met her glare and matched it, not flinching. As he stared into her eyes, he realized that they’d gone cold, emotionless. She was not the inquisitor he’d become familiar with. He was staring into the eyes of the light elves most powerful archer. A killer of dark elves.
This was dangerous. Currently, she was a bigger threat to him than she’d ever been since he’d arrived at the fortress.
As Starr stared at him, she saw his face take on the same glacial expression he’d worn when she’d first met him. The memory of that first night surfaced. For the first time, she allowed the memory to play through her mind in it’s entirety. She bit back an angered curse. Ever since then, she had left her shared bed with Einao unsatisfied.
But the memory stirred her in a way that Einao had been unable to since the whole fiasco had started. In an instant, blind rage took over and she struck out at the dark elf with her bow, slashing him across the chest with it in a right to left upward slicing motion.
Shin felt the bow collide with his chest and still continued to stare at her. “I don’t think that’s how that weapon was designed to be used, hrea…” He murmured softly, ignoring the pain of the strike. For a moment, he’d seen something flash in her eyes, just before she struck out at him. What had it been?
“Stop calling me that!” She spat.
“I told you before, since I don’t know your name, I have nothing else to call you.” He explained patiently, refusing to let her know that he already knew her name while still watching her tensely. “If you would tell me your name, I could stop calling you that…hrea…” Pausing a beat, he continued. “What would you prefer I call you?”
“Nothing!” She hissed venomously.
“I can’t do that. You are not ‘nothing’.” He countered swiftly. “Give me a name, hrea.” As she remained silent, his mind conjured another name for her. His face split into a very slim smile. “Mas Lua…” A most fitting name.
Her upper lip curled in disdain. “Do you treat everything so irreverently? I could kill you now and yet you refuse to take anything seriously.”
Shin shook his head lightly. “I take plenty things seriously.” His eyes skimmed over her. Deciding to press his luck, he continued. “Like the first night we met. I took that very seriously. And I think you did too.” That last was spoken softly as he purposely captured her gaze. “Tell me, have you been satisfied by your lover since that night?” He’d venture that the answer was a resounding ‘no’.
Starr’s head tilted to one side as she contemplated him. He was trying to get a rise out of her. It was so patently clear… Well, two could play this game.
“What about you?” She countered, relaxing her stance, allowing her grip on the bow to loosen as she lowered it back down to her side. “Kept prisoner in here, alone, how have you managed to satisfy yourself?” She swept her mocking gaze over his body. “Oh, that’s right. You’re chained up… Not much you can do for yourself at the moment.”
“Are you implying that you’ve…taken matters into your own hands?” Shin responded with a devilish grin. “Now, I know I told you that you could always come and visit me whenever he failed to satisfy you…” He nearly laughed aloud as her face turned pink for a moment.
However, his amusement turned to surprise as she turned her back to him and walked to the only table in the room. Without a word, she laid her bow down on it. Her daggers followed, and then the quiver of arrows. Turning back around, she pulled the scrolls of binding from her satchel. “You have given me an idea.” She intoned, her voice becoming somewhat husky. “Since you keep bringing it up, I have decided that I will take you up on your, generous, offer.”
Plans and ideas flew through her mind at a rapid pace. Casting a spell, her speed hampered somewhat due to her leather armor, she formed several thick chains of ice around his arms, wrists, ankles, and neck.
Glancing at the icy chains that once again bound him, he arched an eyebrow at her. “These worked so well for you last time…” He commented dryly.
Giving him her sweetest smile, she replied icily. “I’m not done yet. You see, I learn from my past mistakes.”
“Really? Because it seems to me that you are repeating this particular mistake, not that I’m complaining mind you.” He watched curiously as an icy, straight backed chair formed in the center of the room.
Removing her cloak, she draped it over the chair. “Wouldn’t want you to catch cold.” She snarked at him. Casting yet another spell, she broke the iron banding holding him, causing the spelled chains to jerk him over to the chair.
Shin didn’t fight the magic as it forced him into the chair. The chains around his extremities and neck pulled taut, pinning him in place. The chain at his neck attached itself to the floor behind him while the ones at his wrists and ankles also snaked to the floor, pulling tightly in a straight downward fashion. “Impressive…” He murmured. “But still not enough I’m afraid.”
Starr grinned as she produced the first scroll. “Patience is a virtue…or so I’ve been told.” She placed the scroll against the chains and watched as the magic leapt from the scroll and into the icy restraints.
Shin grunted as he felt the power of the magic increase significantly. “What’d you do?” He growled, suddenly finding himself unable to shift even slightly. In her current frame of mind, this was a worrisome development.
“Don’t go worrying yourself about what I did.” She replied softly as she looked over her handiwork, crossing behind the chair as she did so. Producing another scroll, she placed it underneath the makeshift chair. The clear ice took on a reddish hue as tendrils of magic snaked their way around his ankles and legs like roots from a plant.
Satisfied, she stepped back and began to strip. Before, she’d put on a show for him while doing this. Now, she didn’t care to do so.
Shin grimaced as he felt the unmistakable spell of binding that prophets and heirophants used. “You made some quite powerful friends if they parted with their magic in such a way.” How long would these enhancement scrolls last?
His ears twitched as he heard the first buckle of her leather armor come undone. Falling silent, he listened intently as he heard more of her armor come undone. The first touch of her hands on his shoulders sent a shiver through him. “I’d prefer to see you…”
“Shut up…” She growled, his constant comments wearing on her nerves. Her hands trailed over his shoulders and across his chest as she leaned closer to him. Looking over his shoulder, she watched her hands trail over his abdomen in slow, languorous motions. While she couldn’t drag this out, she did want to enjoy it, as he would be dead soon after.
Turning her head to his, she kissed his neck while her hands traveled lower. She deftly untied the cloth laces keeping the cotton britches in place and slipped her hand inside.
Shin’s breath caught as her hand wrapped around his hardened cock. “Hrea…” He breathed out slowly. Closing his eyes, he concentrated on the feel of her soft hand as she slowly pumped up and down. As she gently slid her thumb over the head, he hissed softly.
Starr smirked against his neck. Fool, she thought. Wondering how far she could push him, she altered the chairback and pressed her naked flesh against his. As his cock pulsed in her hand in reaction, she nipped at his throat as she continued to pump away at him in a slow pace.
Glancing down, she watched in fascination as her pale hand continued stroking his much darker complected cock. Their flesh shimmered wetly as she continued to spread the pearly liquid around. Remembering the taste and feel of him, she withdrew her hand and stood up, a smirk still playing around her lips.
Shin watched her as she came into view. “That smirk is going to get you fucked, hrea…” He warned her.
Her head tilted to the side, her grin widening. “I’m planning on it…” She answered. “Except, I’m the one who will be doing the actual fucking, you’re just going to sit there, like a good boy.”
Shin’s nostrils flared momentarily. He disliked being called a ‘good boy’. It reminded him of one of the summoner masters, a cruel elf that tormented others using one of his demonic summons for fun. “Watch it, hrea…” He snapped, for moment becoming serious.
Sensing the very real anger, Starr hesitated for a moment before leaning forward, putting her hands on the back of the chair. She placed a featherlight kiss on his lips, pulling away briefly to look at him. His steady gaze staring back at her caused her to shiver.
“Ride.” He commanded gently. “It’s what you want to do, so do it.”
“I don’t take orders from you.” She breathed out. Looking down, she knelt onto her knees, shifting his legs apart slightly. Without looking back at him, she took him into her mouth.
Shin chuckled to himself as he felt her tongue tracing the veins of his cock. Sure, she didn’t take his orders…right. All thought ceased however when he felt his cock slide fully down her throat. He groaned deeply, his eyes squeezing closed.
Starr held herself still, her fingers digging into his thighs as she worked her throat around him. Finally coming up for air, she bobbed her head up and down. On the upstroke, she fastened her lips around the head of his cock and dug her tongue into the opening, scooping up a copious amount of the thick liquid and swirling it around in her mouth, her eyes closing in bliss. She hated doing this to Einao, but for some reason she felt almost compelled to do it with the dark elf.
Shin cursed softly. He wanted nothing more than to be loose so he could thrust into her hot mouth. Her enhanced spells kept him from moving at all. Looking down, he saw the top of her blonde head, and his sharp ears could hear the sound of her greedily swallowing what his cock was offering her.
Finally raising her mouth from him, Starr locked eyes with him. Raising up, she straddled his lap and lowered herself onto him. Her eyes closed and she bit her lower lip, her head tilting back, as she felt his cock slide into her thoroughly wet pussy. For a moment, she sat still upon him, her body shivering. It was only when she felt the faintest touch against her throat that she moved.
Straining against the chain at his neck, Shin leaned forward as much as he could, kissing her throat. He felt her body shift, and he moaned against her as he felt her slide up a few inches and then sink back down onto him.
Starr’s head came forward, and she leaned into him, giving him better access to her throat, which he promptly took advantage of by nipping at her. Placing her hands on the chair behind his head. She leveraged herself and began to rapidly bounce up and down on his hardened cock.
Shin pulled his head away from her neck and watched her. Her tits bounced in front of his face, and he leaned forward, capturing first one and then the other in his mouth, sucking, licking, and biting each in turn.
Pressing her tits more firmly to his marauding mouth, she groaned in pleasure that she hadn’t felt since the last time she’d taken advantage of him. She rested her forehead on the top of his head as she felt her pussy clench hard around him as he suckled hard on her tit.
Shin hissed as he felt her pussy spasm around him. Releasing her tit from his mouth, he latched onto her throat, his teeth scraping against the tender flesh. Unconsciously, he attempted to thrust into her, only to growl in frustration when the chains held him still.
Hearing his growled annoyance, Starr rapidly rode him, finally cumming with a strained cry. She didn’t stay to relish the experience however and quickly stood, moving away from him.
Feeling her leave him again, Shin’s lip curled upward in vicious frustration. “Oh, you are going to pay for this hrea…” He threatened as he began straining against the spell bindings, testing them.
Gathering her courage, Starr swiftly began dressing, forcing herself to remember why she’d come here tonight in the first place. Armor in place, she snatched up her bow and hissed vengefully at him. “Come get me then!” As she threw the door open and bolted out, she could hear the ice beginning to crack. Racing quickly through the fortress, she quickly scaled the side of the storehouse and took position on the roof.
Shin strained against the ice and the spell of rooting. As the rooting spell dissipated with a pop, and the chair and chains of ice shattered, an eerie chuckle filled the room. He glanced at the daggers she’d left behind, but he didn’t grab them. Instead, he stooped over and snatched up an icy shard of the chair. It was splintered and very sharp. Scanning the floor, he found a similarly sized shard and grabbed it as well.
Raising and lowering his shoulders, he cracked his back, loosening the stiff muscles. Without a word, he cast his own magic and promptly vanished from the sight of anyone who might’ve been watching him. It was time to collect what he’d come for, both planned, and unplanned…
