Chapter Eight: Reunion
It was like watching a slow motion crash. Desmond turned in what seemed to be slow motion to see one of the Templar’s minions ready to shoot him. A moment of horror overcame him as he instinctively tried to move away. At the same time a large form flew down from the trees. The Templar vanished under robes of black, red and gold. A scream met Desmond’s ears and the clearing stilled as all Templar’s were killed. Desmond’s eyes remained riveted on the form that had saved him and he had an idea about who he saviour was.
“You!” Connor exclaimed startled as the robed form slowly stood.
“Connor?” Desmond asked confused.
Connor turned to Desmond. “I’ve seen this man around.” Connor explained. “Killing Templars, hiding in the shadows and stalking us!”
Laughter filled the air. “Ah Dezmond.” The accent was thick which usually indicated that the Italian was either horny or injured. Desmond guessed that the Italian pervert was horny. “I have missed you so.” The Italian continued as amused brown eyes were revealed along with smirking lips. “And this is Connor? I am aware you have been taking care of our precious and for that I thank you.”
“Precious?” Desmond repeated. Ezio chuckled again and strode forward in an attempt to embrace the American. Desmond leapt back and glared. “You aren’t touching me here pervert!” Ezio smirked and pounced pinning Desmond to the ground and pressing his lips to Desmond’s before their youngest could complain.
Connor stood awkwardly to the side and coughed. “Er…”
Ezio glared from the corner of his eye before releasing Desmond. Desmond panted quietly beneath the heavy form of his lover before glancing at Connor. “Told you he was a pervert.” Desmond told the blushing Native American. “Where’s Altair?”
Ezio sighed. “We parted a while back. I fell and Altair tried to catch me. I woke up in this strange place surrounded by strange people. Needless to say I blended in and almost instantly heard word of my little one making a name for himself.” Desmond glare harden even as he allowed Ezio to pull him to his feet. Ezio strolled back over to his kill and gave Desmond a very serious look. “If I had not arrived when I did you could have been dead beloved. This will need to be addressed. Your awareness of the battlefield still needs much work.” The Italian glanced to Connor. “And you are too sporadic in your movements; you do not have proper training. Be glad I arrived first or Altair would have claimed your life. He will not be pleased to know that a novice was looking after our mate.”
“Ezio…”
“No Desmond.” Ezio replied sternly. Desmond immediately went quiet. Ezio rarely spoke seriously but when he did it was wise to shut up and listen. “I understand what losing family can do to a person. Believe me I do. But killing without training is bad. It got me so many injuries and gave me so much grief. More importantly it put the people around me at risk. Connor needs more training if he truly wishes to continue this line of work.”
“What would you suggest?” Connor asked. It was clear the man was offended but he held his tongue and listened to the Italian.
“We need to begin training at once. Altair will not be as forgiving as I am.” Ezio stated firmly. “And I will train you both.” Ezio’s gaze turned to Desmond and the American struggled not to squirm under the gaze. Desmond could handle many things but the disappointment on Ezio’s face really upset him. “Not only could you have died but you forgot the training we gave you. If Altair finds out about this you can be sure what little freedom you had would be lost.” Ezio warned. “Altair will not risk letting you out of his sight.”
“I’m sorry.” Desmond murmured.
Ezio’s expression softened. “You need not say sorry to me for it would not have been my life that was lost. Still your death would have destroyed me, innamorato. Please don’t put yourself at such risk again.”
Desmond was tempted to say he was sorry again but instead he remained quiet and merely nodded. Connor seemed startled by the change, the Native American was used to Desmond being confident but right now Desmond seemed more like a disciplined child.
Ezio smiled softly at Desmond letting their youngest know no harm was done. “Right, let’s begin.” Without warning he went for Connor and all Connor could do was block. It was clear that Ezio was faster and physically stronger despite the weight of his garish robes. Ezio was unforgiving and unrelenting and soon had Connor pinned to the floor. “You are not anticipating your enemy’s moves!” The Italian exclaimed as he rose. Connor panted slightly as Ezio moved away but he tensed as Ezio turned back to him. “Again!”
Desmond was forced to sit back and watch as Ezio beat Connor again and again. Even when Connor seemed to get the upper hand Ezio managed to defeat the Native American. “Connor, Ezio is a counter attacker for the most part, he likes to use his enemy’s strength against them. Dodge and try to attack from behind.” Desmond advised.
“Very good Desmond.” Ezio praised. “But Connor should be learning this for himself.”
Connor seemed invigorated by Desmond’s comment and suddenly lunged forward with new energy. Desmond did not see exactly what happened, the speed the two assassin’s had moved at was too fast for his eyes but the ending scene was rather amusing. Connor had his hidden blade pressed against Ezio’s cheek but Ezio had both hidden blades pressed to Connor, one on his stomach and another at his throat. Ezio would have walked away with a nasty cut, Connor would have died.
Ezio released the Native American and clapped. “Well done, Connor. You have managed to get close enough to deliver a strike.” He praised. “I believe we shall leave it at that today. Go home Connor and practice on a dummy and think about what I’ve said.” Connor glanced hesitantly between Desmond and Ezio and Ezio nodded in acknowledgement. “Desmond will be safe with me. Go.”
“You didn’t need to be so hard on him.” Desmond commented as Connor disappeared.
“Perhaps not, but if Altair had found you he would have put the man down.” Ezio answered. “You know Altair would not have reacted kindly after knowing your life had been in danger.”
“Are you going to tell him?” Desmond asked nervously.
Ezio sighed and rubbed the back of his head. “Knowing Altair he’d find out on his own. Hopefully training Connor now will protect him from the majority of the Arab’s rage.” He answered. “As for you, well I’m not letting you out of my sight. That mistake…that was a novice mistake, little one. You should always be aware of your surrounding and who and what is in it.” Ezio explained. “You didn’t even notice me and I’ve been following you for a while.”
“I haven’t been that bad.” Desmond protested.
“No you haven’t.” Ezio replied with a grin. “And I have to admit seeing you threaten those Templars was quite…” A muffled scream greeted them and they turned to stare at a confused and irritated Haytham Kenway. Ezio smirked. “Ah, one of the lovebirds if I’m not mistaken.” He commented. “Haytham Kenway. Father to Connor Kenway and heir to a long line of Assassin’s. A traitor to the order. A Templar.”
“He is many things.” Desmond agreed.
Ezio glanced at Desmond. “You should have good reason for keeping this Templar alive.”
Desmond glanced a little nervously at Ezio. “I’m…Well I’m giving him a chance to live. For Connor’s sake.”
Ezio frowned. “Little one, he is a Templar.”
“Yes but…” Haytham protested again and futilely tried to squirm out of his bonds. Desmond gripped Ezio’s robe and tugged silently asking to go somewhere a little more private. Ezio smiled readily and guided Desmond away from the Templar. Desmond breathed a small sigh before fixing his lover with a hard look. “Haytham Kenway is the big bad boss, if we kill him all the other Templars would flee. We need him alive at least until the end.”
Ezio considered this for a moment before smiling. “Very good Desmond, you have learnt much.”
Desmond smiled at the praise. “We’re using the Templar’s relationship against them. Charles Lee will do anything for Kenway; he’d even consider giving up the Templar cause. As long as we play against Charles Lee and use Haytham Kenway as bait we’ll keep them both at bay long enough to deal with their associates.”
Ezio nodded. “You are correct, beloved. You have thought this out well. But there is one issue. Where is Charles Lee?”
“He’s late.” Desmond admitted.
“No, he’s just arrived.” Ezio replied. “Go play beloved. I will stay in the shadows.”
Desmond smiled before revealing himself to the two Templars. Charles Lee was trying to free Haytham Kenway but the moment Desmond arrived the man stopped and turned his attention to the threat. Desmond smirked and strode closer. “Hello Charles.” Desmond greeted. “Have you considered our offer?”
“You killed our associates.” Charles pointed out as he stared at the bodies around them.
Desmond shrugged. “I warned you not to send your comrades.”
“I didn’t send them.” Charles protested. “You told them their leader was captured and so they came to free him.”
“True.” Desmond agreed. “But you conveniently waited until the attack had ended to show. You knew they had come and were hoping they had succeeded.”
The man sighed and gave a reluctant smile. “You can’t blame me.”
“No.” Desmond agreed. “But if you keep pushing your luck I will kill you. I have already shown much patience with you but my patience is beginning to wear thin.”
“I cannot promise Haytham’s agreement in all of this.” Charles replied. “He has a mind of his own and is set on this Templar Quest. But I can promise you that I’ll do everything I can to keep him out of your hair.”
Desmond smiled a cruel smile. “Not good enough.” He hissed.
“I can do no more and if you are as skilled as you appear to be you will know Haytham cannot be swayed easily.” Charles replied. “I can give you no more than my assurance that I will do my best to keep out of you and your associate’s way.”
“Not good enough.” Charles leapt into the air as the voice came from behind him, the man tried to turn but a firm hand stopped him from moving. “Now you are going to do more than give your word.”
“What more can I give you?” Charles asked quietly his voice full of fear.
“You do everything to keep Haytham out of the way. If need be you keep that fool tied to your bed.”
Ezio made an excited sound from behind Charles. “Just imagine…” The Italian gave Desmond a lecherous smirk and it took all of Desmond’s willpower to prevent himself from blushing.
“I…” Charles eyes showed great interest in that idea and Desmond glared at Ezio. Haytham made a sound of protest which drew Charles attention to him. “I’ll do all I can.”
Ezio nodded at Desmond before vanishing into the forest and Desmond instinctively obeyed Ezio’s unspoken words. “Very well Mr Lee. I’ll take your word but be warned if Haytham doesn’t behave you’ll be visited first.” Desmond vanished into the trees soon after his words and re-joined Ezio’s side. Both watched as Haytham was freed, the man protested at Charles rough handling but it appeared the man was keeping his word and keeping Haytham out of trouble; for now at least.
“We don’t need Charles Lee taking Haytham out of the country.” Ezio explained quietly. “Their evil will simply spread to the other countries. For now let them think we believe them. Their safety is an illusion but it gives them the confidence to stay in one place and believe they can’t be touched. Whilst they are ‘safe’ we can deal with their associates and then deal with them.”
“That’s what Connor and I planned.” Desmond answered.
Ezio nodded approvingly. “Let them rest a few days, a break from your work will convince them your words are truth.” Ezio explained.
“So what do you plan for us to do?” Desmond asked though he was hesitant to ask. The lecherous smirk Ezio gave him confirmed Desmond’s fears. “Ezio.” Desmond complained in exasperation as the Italian strode forward. Desmond tried to back away from his horny lover but Ezio would not be stopped. “Shouldn’t we head to safety?” Desmond pleaded.
Ezio merely smirked. “Why? The Templar’s are gone, Connor is gone. It’s just you and me.”
“That’s what I’m afraid of.” Desmond muttered.
“No need to be afraid, I’ll take good care of you.” Ezio answered. Desmond rolled his eyes and tried to dodge Ezio’s grasping hands, but the Italian was having none of it. Desmond made a small startled sound as Ezio pinned him to the forest floor. “I am making up for all those hours without you my love.”
“Couldn’t we do it somewhere private?” Desmond pleaded beneath his lover’s bulk.
“It’s private enough here.” Ezio countered. “And the only words I want to hear from you is a plea for more.”
Desmond blushed. “Ezio!” He protested. “This is not…” His words were cut off by lips pressing against his own and a hot desperate tongue slipping into his mouth. He felt the wet muscle searching his mouth as if trying to remember every nook and crevice and it was then that he realised just how much Ezio had missed him. The man was holding him as a starving man would hold onto food. Desmond hugged Ezio’s body tighter to him and relaxed into the kiss.
“Mi amor.” Ezio murmured softly as he nuzzled Desmond’s neck. “Never again.”
“Never.” Desmond agreed.
“I have missed you.” Ezio admitted softly. “And now I have you I find that I cannot bear to let you go.”
Desmond slipped his fingers into the Italian’s dark hair and tugged lightly encouraging the older man to lift his head. Their eyes met and Desmond gave Ezio a look that showed his lust, love and devotion to the Italian. “Then don’t.” He said simply. “Don’t let me go.”
The two seemed to stare at each other for several long moments, both seemed overwhelmed by the love the other had for them but eventually Ezio recollected himself and he gave Desmond an adoring smile before saying two simple words that meant everything to Desmond.
“I won’t.”
